It is certainly not about the decor, although we elves love to decorate our homes, but rather it is about the spirit of the home. And the spirit of our home, our eald, our elven home, is something that we take with us where ever we go. We Silver Elves have taken Eldafaryn (Elf Haven, the name of our home) with us across a continent and back. We take it when we cross oceans and it has shifted with us, moved with us, as elven homes do, into houses, condos, apartments, a school bus, and a van. You can even find it with us in hotel rooms.
Some of the decor and most of our teraphim (spirits of our home and our mystical elfae family) go with us when we make a move. Occasionally, a teraphim decides not to make the journey, or leaves in the midst of it. We know this because the form or statue they were occupying breaks as they depart. This happens, we feel from knowing these spirits well, that they have become so very close to the trees and nature there, that they prefer to stay in that environment. But this happens seldom, however. Most of our teraphim enjoy living with us and continue to do so where ever we journey. The appearance of our new residence may change somewhat, just as we change our raiment from time to time, but the spirit that resides within it stays essentially the same, except it is more evolved, more powerful and illuminated by our previous experiences.
But most of all, the spirit of our elven home travels with us because it exists within our own hearts and our soulful connection to each other and fills whatever abode we may settle in, for however long, with the magic of our togetherness, our mutual elfae being and the love that we share.
It is true that some elfae are alone in the world. And if we understand them correctly, there are far more who are alone than who wish to be. Many elfae and otherkin tell us that they are loners, but we’ve come to understand that in most cases this just means they have yet to find their own kindred, and that they feel surrounded by the critical gaze of the normal folk who are ever judging everyone, including each other, for not being quite good enough. Yet, it is rare for elfae to truly be loners. We may be, many of us, quite introverted and somewhat disinclined toward large groups, or even when in large groups still prone to sit back and observe for the most part, but nearly all elfae seek their true kin and upon finding them know that something that they have hungered for, seemingly forever, has finally come about.
We have often had our elfae friends who visit us after a move say, “Yep, this is still Eldafaryn.” Which, of course, it is. The decorations may have changed somewhat and their location in our home may have shifted, and objects that we had in storage may have now come out and others have replaced them in the secret sleepy realms of awaiting, but the spirit is the same.
Of course, we love the cozy decor that you see in elven and hobbit homes in movies that have rounded doors and archways, vines growing inside and out, lace curtains, beautiful woodwork with Celtic-type knotwork designs throughout and plants everywhere. It is all so beautiful and inspiring. And if we could afford such a place we would surely embrace it with all our hearts.
However, even if we had a place such as Rivendell to live in, that wouldn’t make it an elven home without the spirit of Elfin to awaken it from within, any more than a person who puts on a suit, no matter how expensive it may be, is necessarily a good and successful business person. For what makes an elfin home is the magic of our shared love which encourages everyone who lives there and those who come to visit to be who they truly are in the best way that they can in harmony with Nature, the Universe and all others as much as they can manage at that time to be.

“This feeling of Eldataelum, of Elvenhome, which often comes to us and feels like it is a memory from our childhood, of ancient times, of future possibilities, and the sense of magic we had as children, is another meditation for the Elfae, a deeper meditation born of feeling rather than mental chatter. This sense of being at home at last, this sense of childhood magic, is a communion with our Soul, and by holding this feeling gently within us we begin to vibrate that energy out into the world.”

The feeling comes and goes as it will and we can but focus on it, sense it really, hold it gently and delicately within us as we would hold a fragile bird, and carry it with us as long as we can. Usually the concerns of the world, the circumstances of our life banish it soon enough, but having felt it a few times we begin to get a greater sense of it and in time we can summon it at will. We become the energy of Elvenhome; we are the Living Vibration of the Voice of Elfin calling to other elves in the world.”
