Why we Silver Elves Have Come to Reject the Idea that our Faerie Peoples are Exclusively Descended from the Scythians and Annunaki

” . . .  the Seelie Folk of the earliest elfae were more interested in love, romance and harmonious relationships than fighting (as lore often indicates) and ever seeking a return to the days of yore when we lived together in harmony and peace. Thus, we are, as ever, the Peoples of the Ancient Future.”

According to some, the Daoine Sidhe, also called the Aos Si and the Tuatha de Danann of ancient Ireland, where related to and descended from the Scythians and the Annunaki of Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, and Babylonian mythos. And having seen the evidence they presented, we have no doubt that this is true. However, we Silver Elves have ever felt and have come to ever more strongly believe that not only did our peoples manifest worldwide, not just in European culture as some people would believe, but that we came from even earlier races of peoples. After all, all tales and lore about us elfae declare that we are the Elder/Eldar race, the oldest manifest race of humanoid and mixed race peoples on this planet. Laurence Gardner reinforces this idea somewhat in his book The Realm of the Ring Lords when he presents evidence of a possible link between our peoples and the former continent of Lemuria.

For one thing, the ancient Scythians were like many of the peoples of their time, a warrior culture that was one of many such peoples around them, each fighting with their neighbors for dominance for various territories. They were not unlike, and in fact we expect they were very much like, the Mongols who would arise later and conquer much of the world.

And the Daoine Sidhe and the Tuatha de Danann are listed in the Lebor Gabála Érenn or The Book of Invasions as invaders of Ireland. Which is to say people who came to Ireland and claimed the land, fighting and overcoming others who were already there and later facing invasion by others yet to come who defeated them. The eternal nature of war and conquest.

Now, we Silver Elves know and accept all of this, although it is mostly prehistory for the most part and fragmented factually. And while much of their tale is based upon myth, we still accept these tales in their essence as we do most of faerie lore. However, while we understand that there are warrior elfae folk, we still are of a mind that there were even earlier races of elvish folk who were not so inclined toward warlike behavior as a fundamental part of their culture as was the case with the Scythians and related tribes. Which is not to say that these earlier, less warlike, elfae would not defend thems’elves if necessary. It is not that they couldn’t fight, or wouldn’t fight, but they, for the most part, choose not to whenever a greater alternative presented itself.

We Silver Elves are of a mind that there were earlier elfae peoples, the true Eldar, who were a more peaceful people, mostly forest peoples, sometimes later agrarian folk, who lived in harmony with the Earth and Nature and with each other until the invaders came and overwhelmed their cultures leading, in time, to the world of seemingly perpetual war that we have today. Most of us were absorbed into those aggressive cultures, either by being taken as slaves or killed and reborn as their children, but we still inwardly retain our elvish sense that the world and the people in it would be better off with cooperation than competitive and harmony rather than unceasing conflict.

Besides our own inner sense of the truth of this, where do we get such an idea? Is there any confirmation of this in history at all? Well, we look to the works of Marija Gimbutas who researched the Neolithic and Bronze Age cultures of “Old Europe” and had a theory that a group of invaders whom she referred to as the Kurgans came into Western Europe and overwhelmed the more peaceful farming and forest folk that lived there. Although, her theories were highly criticized and disregarded at first, evidence of these invasions, of a rise of a male sky god oriented dominating pastural cultures that overran ‘partnership’ cultures that honored the Earth as Goddess has since been demonstrated (see Sacred Pleasure by Riane Eisler).

While the Scythians and the later Sidhe and Tuatha de Danann were clearly elfae cultures, they were cultures that were driven westward by the aggressive cultures of Man and responded to that by then invading others. Taking on, but not entirely, the aggressive stance of Men. Whereas the Seelie Folk of the earliest elfae were more interested in love, romance and harmonious relationships than fighting (as lore often indicates, also see the elves in The Witcher series) and ever seeking a return to the days of yore when we lived together in harmony and peace. Thus, we are, as ever, the Peoples of the Ancient Future.
