Can Anyone Be An Elf and Why Don’t All Elves Choose Elven Bodies In Which To Reincarnate?

Part One: Can Anyone Be An Elf?

Well, really, anyone who truly wishes to be an elf is, de facto, elfin in their heart and mind and if they pursue the Elven Way, they will surely become more and more elven in their inner being and that will, in time, affect their bodies, which will in the course of time, affect their DNA.

It is true that DNA doesn’t change quickly usually, which is not to say that it doesn’t produce mutations from time to time, but that is something different. When we are talking about mutations, we are really talking about DNA experimenting with the material realm. When we are talking about changing our bodies and therefore, in time, affecting our DNA, we are talking about our own actions, habits, and behaviors altering, or really communicating with and educating our DNA, which is the means used to transfer messages via the body from lifetime to lifetime. But we don’t travel from life to life via our bodies. We just inhabit them. We progress from life to life by way of our soulful spirits.

In many ways, our bodies are like a suit of clothes, elven raiment we might say, that we put on after a long time in the closet, or perhaps, that we just bought at the store and discover a piece of paper with messages on it in the pocket or a label stating the designer. We are the spirits who wear the bodies. Without us, without spirit to inhabit it, the body is like a person in a coma, or individual who has become a zombie. It doesn’t matter how you get the body you have, if you are void of spirit.

It is true that there are those elves who claim lineage from this or that elf tribe of old, which is wonderful as far as we are concerned, however, knowing that your ancestors were elven is not the same as living the life elfin, yours’elf. That’s rather like saying that your ancestors were Christian, therefore you are Christian even though you may not live in anyway like a true Christian should. Although, Christianity is basically a religious and spiritual philosophy, thus we might do better to look at Judaism as an analogy.

One can be Jewish or Hebrew by genetics, although being a matriarchal lineage, you are not considered to be Jewish if your mother wasn’t Jewish. If your father was Jewish but not your mother, then you are not considered to be Jewish. We elves find that curious, but then, the Universe can be a very curious place. Of course, one can be Jewish by birth, but not follow the Jewish religion, or one of its sub-sects, nor pay all that much attention to Jewish culture. Or one can be or do some combination thereof. These elves have known a lot of Jewish brothers and sisters who were born Jewish, but didn’t practice the religion at all. Usually, they are Buddhists, Pagans, or Atheists, although we’ve encountered a few who became Christian.

At the same time, many of these folk still very much cherished the Jewish Culture, although not all. There have even been folk who are not Jewish by birth or upbringing and who follow the Jewish faith, even though Jewish people, like Elves, don’t proselytize. So, who is really Jewish? Are you Jewish if you are only Jewish by birth but don’t value the faith or culture? Or must you also cherish and live the Jewish Culture and follow the Jewish Religion? Are those who were born and raised other than Jewish but have converted to the Jewish Religion and Culture really Jewish?

From an Elven point of view, which is to say, if they were elves, they would all be considered elven, or Jewish in our analogy, at least by these elves. Those with elven ancestors would be elven, even if only their mother or father, or a grandparent was an elf. Those who love the Elven Culture are elven as well. And surely those who follow the Elven Way are Elven no matter who the ancestors of their present body may have been. It is the spirit that really matters to we who are Silver Elves.

Of course, through our Elven Tribe questionnaire (see What Kind of Elfae/ Fae or Otherkin Are You on our Silver Elves website to take the questionnaire yourself), we have discovered there are all manner of elven tribes and clans and if a particular tribe wishes to exclude others based purely on genetics, well, what can we say but that it is clearly their right to do so, although we think they will be missing out on interacting with some great elven kindred spirits.

Alas, often those who make claim to physical elven heritage and genetics unfortunately use this as a way of excluding others not only from their clan but from their idea of what constitutes being elven at all. Again, it is their right to think as they wish, but we think it is a right that is being narrowly exercised. And usually those who do this do so to make thems’elves feel special while subtly denying others the right to do the same. It’s a one-upmanship game. There is just something a bit narrow minded and mean-spirited about that. And it seems to us it is just a step or two removed from those who say you have to have pointed ears to be an elf, or be tall, or incredibly thin, so that if a person is a bit short or overweight, they are arbitrarily excluded and considered un-elven. While we do believe that we, as elves upon the path, should do all we reasonably can to take care of our bodies and to be as healthy and fit as we can be, we know that many people struggle with their weight and that struggle, in its’elf is a rather courageous step upon the Elven Path. We don’t deny them the right to consider thems’elves elven just because they’re over weight. And the point of view that would exclude them from being elven, just because of the current body form or ancestry, just seems un-elven to us.

Well, as we said early in this blog article, anyone who wishes to be an elf, can be an elf, but very few wish to be elves who are not already elven in their hearts, minds and souls. We do get those who are traveling through, so to speak, from time to time, because being an elf sometimes seems cool (substitute rad or whatever slang word you happen to use) and exciting and elves are magical and wondrous, so who wouldn’t wish to be an elf, really? But, surprisingly, very few who aren’t at least a bit elven wish to be elves. There are all sorts of other superhero, otherworldly, supernatural beings with powers that one can aspire toward being. And the list just keeps growing.

But we don’t mind the fact that not everyone is going to continue to claim an elven identity. We treat visitors in our realms as our very own. ‘Mi casa es su casa,’ as the Spanish speaking elfin say. Or as we who use Arvyndase say: ‘Te ata arae eli,’ ‘Be one among us.’ If you are an elf friend, even for a short while, you are kin to us in spirit and we will embrace you as our very own.

Of course, some elves are more materialistically oriented than others of us. Developing a spiritual understanding of the Universe and reality can take time. Surely, one can be descended from those folks who were known as being elven or fae in the past, or upon whom the legends, lore and tales of the elfae are based. But really, fairy tales are a nearly worldwide phenomena and if we are to believe the tales, or at least give them some credence, then we elfin were some of the first peoples, the aboriginal folk of the Earth, everywhere. Thus, those who are descended from the elfae can be nearly anywhere on the Earth, born to all sorts of people and arising in a variety of cultures, merging as the Celts did with the people who came after them.

Yet, despite this, very few individuals actually wish or claim to be elven. There is a good deal of social ridicule for doing so, which surely filters out a lot of those for whom being elven would just be a passing fad, and there is not much left in the way of living culture to be born and raised within anymore. Few elves were raised by aware elven parents, although our children were. Those missing aspects of our culture is what we are creating here and now.

And the simple fact is that not all elves and elfae, or perhaps even most of us, are as enamored of Elven and Faerie culture as we Silver Elves are. The vast majority of those who are really elves are too busy trying to save the whales, clean up the oceans, save the forests, protect endangered species and all around being busy protecting the environment to really bother or care about calling thems’elves elves or fae folk. Some few of us, however, have also undertaken the task of preserving and creating, re-creating our cultural heritage. We are endeavoring to shift through all the gibberish about us to reveal the true gems of elven life, culture and wisdom. Are those folks not elves or fae, just because they don’t bother to claim to be so? Not every elf has felt the calling of this duty to preserve and promote Elven culture. Most have more important things to do.

Let’s take the example, for instance, of those individuals who claim to be Christian because they were raised by parents who also claimed to be Christian and go to church in order to be socially accepted in a Christian society.  Who also claim to believe whatever Christians are supposed to believe but who act in ways that are most definitely un-Christian, at least to the understanding of we Silver Elves, but then, we are not Christian. Hypocrisy may be a Christian tenet as far as we know, but we rather doubt it. Are such disingenuous individuals really Christian?

Contrast them with individuals who live in the way that Jesus wished, are Christian by their acts and deeds but don’t claim to be Christian or perhaps make claim to any faith at all? Are they truly Christian by deed, if not by acclamation? By the same token, is it more important to claim you are an elf or fae but not tread the path of the Elven Way or is it more vital to live by the principles of the Elven Way and seek in all you do to help, heal and spread the wonder of magic all about you? Who then would be truly elven?

Well, this is an old debate among Christians as well as among the Elves. Perhaps we will never reach agreement but we shall strive onward as the Elfin folk that we are, encouraging each and everyone to “walk their talk” and “put their money where their mouth is” as men and goblins like to say. Or as we elves like to say, “Be the elf you know yours’elf to be, as fully as you can, striving ever to make this a more magical world for everyone.” And if you do that, you are surely an elf, whatever you may call yours’elf and whomever the ancestors of the body happened to be.

Part Two: Why Don’t All Elves Choose Elven Bodies In Which To Reincarnate?

There seems to be a divide in the elfae community between those who look at being elven as a material state of being saying that only those who are descended by blood (which is to say by genetics) from elven folk can truly be elven and those of us who view the material world, rather as the Buddhists do, as a secondary world that is based upon the world of spirit and energy and that being elven has more to do with one’s spirit, consciousness and magic, or one’s will empowered by action, than with the body one has chosen to inhabit in a particular lifetime.

Perhaps this difference can be seen by way of example. A number of years ago in the United States, a woman rose to prominence in the Black community only to be discovered years later to have White parents. She was not genetically Black at all. This, of course, caused a bit of a scandal. For years, she had made herself appear Black and had fought and struggled to promote awareness and equality and fairness for Black people, but because she was not Black genetically, even though she had been assumed for decades as being, she was no longer considered Black.

However, from the point of view of we Silver Elves, while she was not Black in a genetic sense, she was Black in her soul and in her spirit and more than likely had been Black in lifetimes previous. Why else would she wish to be accepted as Black? Of course, those who see the world from a strictly material point of view, which is nearly everyone currently in the world, took the point of view that she was faking it and not really Black at all. That is surely the standpoint of most Men, but why would we Elves fall in line with the kneejerk reactions and enculturated thoughtforms of Men? After all, if we are to believe the legends and lore about us, even the ones created by Men, our race is older, wiser and more magical and mystical, which is to say in this case, more etheric than Mankind and, even to their own minds, will ever be so.

For Elfin and Faerie are, as are the elfae folk ours’elves, essentially supernatural beings. Supernatural being a word that indicates Nature in its most advanced state of being, infused with the world of spirit and magic and the beings and creatures thereof. We elves are spirits manifested in the material world. Well, some of us are on higher planes of manifestation, surely, and certainly some are currently traveling through the Between. But those of us writing here have manifested in humanoid bodies that perhaps are just a bit more aware and etheric than many of the normal folks around us. Thus, we must remember to keep ours’elves grounded, which is especially important for the faeries who simply tend to fly off at times, but for the elven, this is something most of us have mastered fairly well.

This understanding of the supernatural aspects of the world is very close to the way most of our ancestors experienced the world as being filled with spirits and energies and magic everywhere. Even Men once saw the world that way, which is part of the reason they came to have tales about us. They saw us, at least in part, as we were. It scared them and they persecuted us, but then, they also persecuted everyone, including each other, so we elfae shouldn’t take it all that personally. For Men, as they themselves say, most wicked things that they do are not personal, it’s just business. Men hunger to succeed and dominate everything and everyone in order to make a profit, but to them money equates to self-worth. They killed off a lot of us and did a fairly good job of destroying our culture (although our culture persisted none-the less), all to make themselves feel important.

One might wonder if we can choose the body we are reincarnated within, why we elves don’t just always select those bodies that are descended from those who survived with what some folks refer to as the Elven Holocaust (see Nicolas De Vere The Dragon Legacy). And the reasons are several, really. One, there just weren’t as many genetically elven bodies available as there were elven spirits reincarnating. We could wait, of course, to be reincarnated, but then, we had things to do, desires of our own that drew us into the material world and we selected the best bodies and situations available at any particular time.

Two, some of us, particularly those of us with a bit of pixie blood in us, thought it might be humorous, as well as efficacious, if we were born to the descendants of the Men who persecuted us and then gave them hell when we became teenagers. And then, as we matured, we began preserving our elven heritage as best we might through fairy tales and lore, as well as, subtly affecting the way they viewed the world. At the very least, offering them some alternative ideas. We have not been without some success in this regard, however, they do and have always looked upon us as being the “black sheep of the family” and generally rather eccentric.

We elves have always been the oddballs, the weirdos and crazies of our families. For we are elves. We are supernatural beings. To see and constrict the world to a strictly materialistic point of view is to limit one’s understanding and ability to do and be magic. If one understands our magical nature, the essential enchantment of our being, then one will also understand that we can adopt whatever bodies we desire from one life to the next as purpose and destiny incline us to do. Further, it should be clear that in this world, as we’ve said previously, almost no one would call thems’elves an elf if they didn’t have some elf in their Nature.

So, beloved, embrace and nurture all your kindred as best you are able, and help each and every one become who they are truly meant to be, which is their own true s’elf, and together we shall create Elfin upon the Earth and Elsewhere and dance beneath the Moon and Stars.

We Silver Elves don’t care who your ancestors were, although if you wish to tell us we would surely find it interesting. We don’t care what religion you were born and raised into, as long as you don’t attempt to push it on us, although we are quite interested in religion as a study overall. We don’t care from what race you’ve descended, what country you came from, or what your social status is, although all of that can make for interesting conversation. We only care that you are doing your best to evolve as a spirit and as an individual and that we can strive together onward enlightening the path to Elfin for ours’elves and our kindred, now and to come as we move into the future creating Elfin upon the Earth.

And a Word from Diviners Corner . . .

. . .The Silver Elves have several original Elven divination systems that have been created to be used by Elfae and all other interested diviners, including The Elven Star Oracle, Elven Geomancy, and our most recent oracle system Sticks and Stones, Feathers, Charms, and Bones:

STICKS AND STONES, FEATHERS, CHARMS AND BONES:
An Original Oracle of the Elfin Peoples of the Ancient Future

by The Silver Elves is an original oracle system that uses the Sacred Magical Treasures of The Silver Elves as a base. There are ten of these Sacred Magical Treasures of The Silver Elves in all: The Orb of Healing, The Wand of Wishing, The Coin of sticksandstonescoverthe Realm, The Feather of Truth Telling, The Magic Mirror of Reflection, The Sack of Giving, The Philtre of True Love, The Phial of Eternal Youth, The Elf Horns of Calling and the The Torch of the Eternal Silver Flame. You may ask of the oracle to give you a general reading of what is to come in your life, in which case you will use all the tokens. Or you may wish to ask a very specific question, like, “What is my power in this situation?” In which case, you may wish to only use the Personal Charm. Or you may ask, “In what fashion will the spirits help me?” and then the Otherworldly Charm might be best. Or if you want to know what is behind the situation, what karma or fate has brought you to this circumstance, then the Small Stone might be the wisest choice. But for a balanced reading, it is perhaps best to throw all the magical objects, either together or one at a time to see the various aspects of the situation and get a full view of what is going on. To read an excerpt and more about this book,  please click here!

. . . . And for using oracles to form rituals

GEOMANCY

A number of our Silver Elves oracle books are filled with elven mantras for specific magical uses. If you truly like using elven mantras for magick, elven mantras accompany each of the oracles in our book Elven Geomancy: An Ancient Oracle of the Elfin Peoples for Divination and Spell Casting and are written in our magical language Arvyndase with the English meaning also given. These mantras can be strung together to form a spell to increase the magic associated with the answer you receive in this oracle. And these mantras may be used along with the mudras also given in this book for each outcome to form a sort of impromptu ritual that you can perform in order to increase the potency of what you wish to achieve. Do Elves Do Blood Magic?

April 1, 2019
hruins
“This idea of blood sacrifice is a product of the Kali Yuga, the dark age that we are still in during this modern era, this most material or materialistic age where people seem to see everything from a materialistic point of view. . . . we speak here about the true energy that powers magic and while many people believe it is bloodletting, we elves do not. . . . It is not blood or any other material thing that delights the Shining Ones who help, guide and aid us as best they are able, but our happiness that delights them, just as a child’s delight brings joy to the hearts of the adults that watch hir (her/him) so our joy brings greater delight to those kindred of ours who live upon the more subtle planes of manifestation.”
Note: The photo shown above is one we Silver Elves took of the Kaneaki Heiau in Makaha, on the island of O’ahu. When we first moved to Hawaii in 2008, we lived just a short ways down the valley from this restored Heiau and visited it a few times. We were told by local native Hawaiians that the Menehune (the “Little People”, elven or dwarf folk) and other wee folk of Hawaii, are said to have built this temple, Kaneaki Heiau, in the 15th century as a sacred site for the local chief to honor the Rain Goddess and to serve Lono, the God of agriculture. It was a peaceful temple until later in the 17th century when King Kamehameha I rededicated this temple to “Ku” the God of war and it was then used as a place where prisoners of war were sacrificed. This practice ceased in the early 1800s.

Part One: Does magic always require sacrifice? If so, does it require a blood sacrifice of some sort?

We are approaching Easter, a time in the year when a major religion in the world celebrates the willing blood sacrifice of their promised Messiah, his death and resurrection. This is a good time to examine sacrifice in magic and if bloodletting is truly required.

Blood magic is based upon the idea that is commonly put forth in television shows, movies and books about magic that magic always has a cost, always requires a sacrifice of some sort and that that sacrifice is commonly blood or life in some form. The fact that this idea that magic always has a cost is repeated again and again over decades in the popular media makes it suspect in the minds of elves. Anything the normal folk unthinkingly parrot as truth, in the experience of these elves, is usually false or a twisted version of the reality created to reinforce their particular prejudices concerning the nature of life and the world. And we automatically examine it just because they believe it to be so and they are almost always mistaken.

So, let’s consider this idea that magic always requires sacrifice and that blood is usually the most common and effective sacrifice one can render, not dismiss it out of hand, but render it due consideration as to its value and veracity. After all, as they tell us even a broken clock is right twice a day (unless it’s a digital clock and then it’s probably not keeping time at all) and the world of the normals is often very much like a broken clock, ever trying to run backwards or keep time perpetually the same and unchanging.

Surely, most things in life require effort. Magic is basically action based on intention and action requires us to do something, so certainly we could say that magic does require some energy input to occur, yet, on the other hand, there is both the magic that we do and the magic that we experience. The idea as expressed on some bumper stickers that Magic Happens, has some truth to it. Some magic just seems to happen and these elves have been the recipients of a great deal of luck in our lives of which we didn’t do anything at all (at least not in this lifetime) to necessarily make it happen or deserve it except to be our own true s’elves.

Yet, to do magic ours’elves, to create enchantments … that does require a bit of energy. Still, from an elven point of view the best enchantments require very little input and give a great deal in return, so much so that one is surely getting more than one is putting out and thus has more than enough to invest again. Enchantments pay off, and the best enchantments seem effortless. Isn’t that really the idea of magic as well as good business that investment brings greater profit? If we plant a seed and it grows into a tree that produces fruit for generations, we have invested little and gained a great deal. That’s elven magic.

But does magic always cost? If we wish to turn on the lights and we wave our hand and the light comes on, that requires us to wave our hand, surely. Not to mention, but we will, the electricity bill. Yet, we could just walk out into the daylight and get light for free, except we’d have to get off our butts and walk out. And who hasn’t felt the sun on them and sensed its great magic, or looked at a night sky filled with stars and not experienced the magic it brings, or the magic and enchantment of the night itself. Yet, clearly at least minimum of effort is involved. So, in as much as everything in life requires some effort or investment, magic surely does as well. Although, again, one can experience magic for free. It is all about us.

But does that investment need to be blood, by which is generally meant pain or harm in some way to a living being (oneself or others)? And as a side note, why on televisions shows are they nearly always cutting themselves across their palms? That’s a hard place to heal, being flexed so often, wouldn’t it be better, if one did offer blood to prick one’s thumb, as in the fairy tales?

We won’t even get into the idea of killing chickens and other animals and all that other stuff that isn’t really sacrifice at all, except to say that all true sacrifice must be voluntary and leave it at that. We Silver Elves have spoken of this issue elsewhere numerous times.

But if we believe that sacrifice is necessary, and done properly, which is to say willingly, why blood sacrifice? Why not spit, or feces or urine? What is blood really but a carrier of our DNA and genetic coding. How about our our semen? Doesn’t that have our DNA in it?

This idea of blood sacrifice is a product of the Kali Yuga, the dark age that we are still in during this modern era, this most material or materialistic age where people seem to see everything from a materialistic point of view. Just as people talk about being of the elven blood and saying that they can trace their ancestry back to the Scythians and that thus in itself makes them elven, so blood is thought by materialistic thinkers to be somehow efficacious in terms of magic. But our question remains. Why not semen? Wouldn’t it be just as or even more efficacious?

Certainly, urine or feces or spit might be effective in spells that involve banishing someone. After all, aren’t we magically saying that they should ‘piss off’. And when we have contempt for people, don’t we spit at or on them, cursing them as we do so? So why is blood thought to be so powerful?

Well, urine and feces are waste products. Certainly, we don’t wish to offer the spirits something that is considered unworthy and essentially worthless, (although it can in time become great fertilizer and how precious is that?). And we could probably say the same about spit. But semen isn’t a waste product, per se. It is the essence of life. Shouldn’t that be a fitting offering. In certain ways, even more fitting? And a few strands of our hair pulled from our head would also be full of our DNA.

But we elves ask to whom are they giving sacrifice, or offering, and why? Devotees make offerings to their gods and demi-gods and goddesses of blood to demonic spirits, while offering fruit and other offerings to more benevolent beings. But to whom are magic wielders sacrificing blood or whatever to? To gods? To spirits? If so, what sort of magicians are they that require and appeal to intermediaries to do the magic for them? They might as well be praying for rain. The magician exercises power directly. He or she tosses a ball (a ball of light), sHe (he/she) doesn’t appeal to, or depend upon, some spirit to toss the ball for hir (her/him). (See Frazer and the introduction to The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion.) The enchantment/magician wields power, so what does blood or sacrifice have to do with it? We elven magicians strive to act in accordance with laws of Nature, not appeal to outside forces to act for us.

“To the elven, magic is much like romance. We don’t attempt to force our way on others, we seek to charm them into assisting our will. But we do so because we find them amazing and lovely and trust that through our enchantments, they will consider us so as well. It is a dance and hopefully ever mutually fulfilling.”
—The Silver Elves

Part Two: If the true energy that powers magic is not bloodletting, why is it in popular culture today?

The idea of blood magic, in our opinion, while it has wormed its way into popular culture really comes from religion. Of course, because the normal folk consider believing in god to be normal, they will pretend they do so, although in truth the only thing that they often really believe in is appearances and social position and hierarchy. But we are not here to criticize the herd for doing what they have learned is best suited to surviving and advancing in the world. They do what they do because they are survivors (as are we all up until we die), and they tell us this repeatedly. They even wear tee shirts declaring their survival skills. Long ages of surviving have inculcated these behaviors within them. Just as the long ages of being the weirdos, the strange elfae others that we are, have delighted our soulful spirits.

In the most ancient of times, shamans and magicians didn’t offer sacrifice to gods or spirits to do our magic for us. We studied the laws of Nature, really, we might say the Ways of Nature, or the Tendencies of Nature, since law makes Nature sound less flexible than it truly is. It can be exact surely, but it can also change like the weather as well. We used the powers of Nature to fulfill our wills. We didn’t seek to violate Nature but to nudge it gently here and there, making life more abundant and secure, while using its propensities to our own advantage.

And then, perhaps it was, we came upon the Djinn, the elemental spirits of fire, wind, earth and water. We began making deals and pacts and using ceremonial magick to summon them, to direct them according to our will (see Jonathan Stroud’s novel The Amulet of Samarkand) and bargains were struck and many magic wielders became somewhat dependent upon them, for they could do amazing things. Djinn began being seen as gods and magicians became priest magicians and then just priests. Well, most anyway, don’t forget us elves, us fae, us weirdo others who continue to remember who we truly are and what magic and enchantment are as well and have always really been.

Djinn as gods needed offerings and sacrifice and, of course, obedience in light of the covenant form with them. At first, the magicians demanded absolute obedience from the Djinn and then the tables got turned, the magic entangled and the slaves became the masters, as they nearly always do in time. Heed this well you who still seek to dominate others. Nature informs us of the cycles of life and the alteration of high and low. Everyone has their time, in the course of the lifetimes.

And then blood came into it. Why blood? It’s a curious thing. Born of conflict and the need for certain dark spirits to feed. But somewhere in all this, there is the love/hate relationship Mankind has with Women. Women that they adore, Women that they despise, Women that they exploit, oppress and treat as though they were their pets, that they can whip if they don’t obey. Women who, even today, don’t often get equal pay for equal work.

Women bleed, regularly. Women are witches, nearly always, even when they don’t know that they are so or practice consciously. Yet, the menstrual blood of Women has long been considered impure. In some religions, Women are not even allowed to enter the so-called holy places when they are having their monthlies. This blood is seen as contaminated, as profane. It is cast off blood and their gods, like vampires, want living blood.

And yet, those who are dominators still fear Women’s power. Why else would they oppress and exploit them? Wanting them to stay in their place, which is also what they tell their slaves and others that they oppress and exploit and look down upon, treating them as though they were less worthy due only to their gender, race or some other arbitrary factor. Women are magic, they know this in their unconscious even if they don’t admit it in their conscious minds. And Women’s magic, for the most part, is Natural Magic. The Old Magic, the Ancient Magic, the True Magic. Which is, in part, why many ancient shamans dressed in what might be seen as unisexual attire. Magic is about Nature, for Nature is Magic and magic is beyond sexual gender, while incorporating sex within it.

But let’s not stray too far from our topic, for this is not a screed about the oppression of Women or others. Our topic is not directly about the inequalities of the normal folk or their illogical and sometimes absolutely lunatic and misguided ideas concerning magic, not to mention nearly everything else, but rather we speak here about the true energy that powers magic and while many people believe it is bloodletting, we elves do not.

Women are magical not because they bleed regularly, but because they are, for the most part, more attuned to their own instinctual feelings and their own nature. Plus, they give birth (with some input from males). And that in itself is a sort of Thaumaturgy, a magic of creating miracles.

And if you have an elf child or have encounter one, you will know that they are miraculous beings, filled with ancient wisdom and magic. These little ones create magic without even trying. Which is true magic, indeed. They are enchanters supreme and while they are not yet educated in the ways of the world, their fresh and often unique observations upon it offer much that one can learn from. They inspire us and while it is true they may spill a bit of blood now and again, that isn’t what makes them magic or gives them their great powers of enchantment. And when they do so we, for our part, kiss it and make it better, so what does that tell you of the ancient elven ars magica?

“If you ask the elves what the greatest magical power is,
they will tell you healing, for healing sets everything aright.
And if you ask them what healing consists of,
they will tell true love, for true love heals all things.
And if you ask them what the source of true love is,
they will tell you it is the Divine Magic,
for the Divine Magic loves all of life and
eternally seeks its happiness and fulfillment.”

—The Silver Elves

Part Three: If not sacrifice, then what is the key to energizing the magic?

We suggested in Part One of our answer to the question “Do elves do blood magic?” that the use of other bodily fluids, such as sweat, saliva, urine or semen might be just as effective as an energy of magic as the all too common concept of the shedding of blood, depending, of course, upon the particular spell. But in doing so we were still looking at magic and its empowerment from a materialistic point of view in which something physical needs to be used to activate the magic, which is essentially spiritual in nature, blood being the substance most often used and referred to in books, movies, and television shows.

But the elven point of view, and thus our perspective concerning magic and enchantment, is not primarily material in nature any more than our own conception of our elfin being is material. Our material bodies are transitory manifestations of our spirits and our soulful energy. We are not our bodies. Our bodies are just clothes, so to speak, that our spirits are wearing. And while we may be descended by genetics, which is to say, by blood, from those individuals such as the ancient Scythians who are currently regarded as being some of the ancient elves, and thus from the Bloodline of the Elven (see De Vere The Dragon Legacy), it is our spirits and our magic that actually determine if we are elven or not. It is our elven natures that make us elven, really, not our physical bodies.

So, it is that when we suggested that seminal fluid might be as, or more, efficacious in creating magic, we were really making a sort of materialistic analogy or metaphor for the reality of the situation. It is not blood, or semen or any other physical fluid that is the key to energizing the magic, but ecstasy as evidenced by both the practices of ancient and modern shamans and tantric practitioners. Joy, happiness and pleasure are the true activators of magic. Sexual effluvia is merely the byproduct of that energy and activity. (see Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy by Mircea Eliade.)

It is not blood or any other material thing that delights the Shining Ones who help, guide and aid us as best they are able, but our happiness that delights them, just as a child’s delight brings joy to the hearts of the adults that watch hir (her/him) so our joy brings greater delight to those kindred of ours who live upon the more subtle planes of manifestation.

Why is this so? It is so because the nature of the higher planes of being are ecstatic (see The Tibetan Book of the Dead: Liberation Through Understanding the Between translated by Robert A. F. Thurman). The realms of Elfin, of the heavenly realms, the realms of paradise as formulated by various peoples are places where happiness abides, love rules, and joy lives in the hearts of each and all. By creating ecstatic states of being, which is to say by being happy, being joyous and filled with ecstatic energy, we are attuning ours’elves to those higher realms and the spirits who abide there, making it easier to communicate with them as well as enchant much of the world around us. In experiencing the joy of ecstatic being, we become like the Shining Ones, one of them, and share in their great power to move and affect the worlds.

Oh, it is true there are dark spirits in the world who are in so much pain that they can’t abide happiness in others and seek to destroy that happiness, even though that will not help them even a little bit to find happiness themselves and will just drag them deeper into the wicked magics that have ensnared them. But, they have given up on the idea that happiness is even possible for them and they simply wish others to share their misery and suffering, although misery is like fire, sharing it doesn’t make it any less. They offer blood and suffering to the darkness but while doing so may give them a temporary psychotic thrill, that path nearly always ends with madness and despair.

So, it is that we elfin must sometimes hide our magic, restrain from flaunting our happiness, while remaining aware, as the Shining Ones are, that while we are filled with joy within there are others who have yet to realize that the true nature of the Universe is ecstasy, which is the source of all true magic. Thus, we go forth humbly, our joy serene, as we seek our kindred in the world and spread the magic that arises from the delight of being elven.

Can We Become Elves?

April 14, 2018

29541507_2147069358642999_9024813548495673657_n
“. . . . all of us who wish to be Elven, no matter what
our genetic lineage, are truly Elven as spirits
and as we lead our lives as elves we become
ever more Elven through the process of shedding
the thought-forms of the more normal cultures around us.”

In most folks’ minds, one is either an elf or fae or not. One is born that way, descended from the Ancient Scythian or other fae folk and that is that. That is certainly the way Nicholas De Vere viewed things in his book The Dragon Legacy. However, that is not the way these elves look at things and even De Vere acknowledged that those who had at least some elven blood, which according to him was a great deal of humanity, weren’t necessarily an elf unless theirs was particularly pure elven blood. And again, we disagree not only because this rather racist and snobbish point of view offends our elven sensibilities but mostly because it is not necessarily true.

We elfae folk are magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, shamans, wizards, witches and magic wielders of various sorts and we are elves because we wish to be elves. We live our lives as elves and thus our magic makes us so. Ours, as we said many times, is a more magical and energetic view of elfin being rather than a materialistic oriented point of view, but then we are evolving toward more spiritual, by which we mean spirited and energetic, lives.

And it is also the case that those who have supposedly pure elven blood may not live the elven life at all or follow The Elven Way, while others who seemingly have no elven blood genetically are very attracted to being elves and strive to live their lives as the elves they instinctively feel thems’elves to be. While those who consider thems’elves to be ‘pure’ elves may say ‘tough luck’ you are not one of us, we Silver Elves say, the more the merrier.

This is due in part because we know that being elves we have somewhat mastered the art of being born into whatever bodies or families or genetic line that is convenient for a particular incarnation. We modern incarnated elves are not usually interested in being born into our ancient elven bloodline as we are in picking those bodies and circumstances that will help us develop as spirits and assist us to evolve.

Still, there is a soulful memory that is the memory of our spirit within our being that draws us to the Elven Lifestyle. So if you ask us, can someone become an elf? We say, we are all becoming elves. Or really all of us who wish to be elven, no matter what our genetic lineage, are truly elven as spirits and as we lead our lives as elves we become ever more elven through the process of shedding the thought-forms of the more normal cultures around us.

One might wonder then, why would we do such a thing. Why be born in other bodies from other genetic lines at all? And the answer is essentially twofold. One of which is that having been persecuted and oppressed as elves and fae, we found there were less and less elven bodies to be born into and so we decided to be born as the children of our oppressors so we could transform their genetic line, as well as torture them a bit in revenge when we were teenagers and love them to death when we are children and when we, and they, get older.

But the other aspect is that, indeed, studies in the field of epigenetics show us that the deoxyribonucleic acid/DNA and the genetic code in our bodies can be altered by our behaviors and so we alter a genetic line to make them more like us, influencing their culture and their genes. It is true that frequently they see us, even when we are born among them, as the ‘black sheep’ of their families. But still, you’ve got to start somewhere.

And if you enjoyed the article above, we think you may very much enjoy reading our most popularly read book on the wisdom teachings of the ancient Elven titled Through the Mists of Faerie:

Through The Mists of Faerie:
A Magical Guide to the Wisdom Teachings of the Ancient Elven

ThroughtheMists
—Excerpt from page 26 of Through The Mists of Faerie by The Silver Elves.
“Elfin, Faerie, Elfland or the Sacred Realm or Dimension of Magic that lives at the heart of the Universe, is an incredibly attractive power. It draws all true souls to it. It calls to the Elfin nature in each and every soul. This is the power that arouses the imagination of those who see or read the Lord of the Rings and say, I’m an Elf or I’m a Dwarf, or even I’m an Orc. The power calls to us through Urban Fantasy stories and the fantasy novels of old, as well as, faery tales and movies of magic and enchantment. But it also calls to us from the trees, the wild places of Nature, and sometimes most of all from magic memories of our childhood, which is really our ancient past, our past incarnations, calling to us. It can also be aroused, and quite strongly, perhaps most strongly, by others of our kind manifesting in the world. There is something magical about these beings and they arouse our own hunger for magic in our own lives and souls. These Elfae radiate starlight. They glimmer with love, kindness and compassion; and they reach out and touch our souls. Some might suppose this to be a glamor, a magic they have wrapped thems’elves within to enchant us; but while they are truly enchanting, the magic arises from the fact that they are genuine and real. They don’t need to glamor us. They just need to be their very own s’elves, for that is the most impressive magic of all. They are not trying, they are simply being: being thems’elves, being elves.”

Is Being an Elf a Matter of Blood of Genetic Heritage?

July 1, 2017
    Blessings8copy
“….we are primarily beings of spirit, not of matter. We, through the lifetimes, gain the power to choose what sort of body we may wish to manifest in, from whatever bloodline we fancy based upon our own needs, goals or mission that we have to accomplish in any particular life form.”

There are those that proclaim that being an elf is only a matter of bloodline descent and while we agree that there are those who are descended from those people from which the tales of elves seem to originate, we simply cannot agree that elfinness is inherited. Our experience tells us that this is simply not the case. We see elfinness as being of the spirit and not requiring an inherited bloodline. Only the pursuit of The Elven Way, of living one’s life as an elf, is a true indication of elfinness.

Even Nicholas de Vere who makes such claims in his books notes that everyone in the world, or most everyone, is likely to have at least a bit of elven blood in their veins. He contends, however, that his is purer and less undiluted and thus he has the right to consider hims’elf elven, while most others do not. Again, however, he offers us no DNA test results to back this up. While we respect his historical works, we have always taken issue with his exclusiveness when it comes to elfinness. Our belief is that if a person says they are an elf or Otherkin then we believe them. There is no bloodline requirement to be an elf as De Vere asserts, nor would bloodline assure that the person was an elf in spirit, which is the only requirement for being an elf.

Often those who make such claims as being of the elven bloodline present absolutely no evidence that it is so. They expect, like certain modern politicians, that we will accept their declarations without any data and often contrary to known facts. Some give us long genealogical charts but what they don’t give us thus far is the evidence of a DNA test, demonstrating that their blood is as pure as they say it is.

Even if this were so, we’d still disagree with De Vere. If being elven and aspiring to elfin being were simply a matter of heritage then all one’s ancestors would have made such a claim and pursued the path of the Elven and we see no evidence that this is so either.

And even if it were so, even if generation after generation in an individual’s family had proclaimed they were elves, we’d still disagree because as elven beings, we are primarily beings of spirit, not of matter. We, through the lifetimes, gain the power to choose what sort of body we may wish to manifest in, from whatever bloodline and genetics we fancy based upon our own needs, goals or mission that we have to accomplish in any particular life form.

To us, the mere fact that one aspires toward being an elf is, in itself, an indication of one’s essential elfinness. Who but an elf would wish to be an elf? And if all things derive from material being, as materialistic minded individuals believe, then why would we wish to be elves and live our lives as elves, if we were not genetically programmed to do so?

And we are also often asked: Even if we accept the idea that you are elves even though you don’t have pointed ears, what about those folks who claim to be dragons, or werewolves or other mythical beings?
It is true that those who claim to be dragons and certain other beings cannot be so in a physical sense, at least at this point, but just as we are elves because of the way we live, so are they dragons because of their inner spiritual longings and natures. This is not totally dissimilar to the fact that we call some men old goats or chickens or some such or that some folks derogatorily call certain women cows or old hens, or that we refer to certain men and women as dogs, although meaning different things in doing so. Besides the fact that these are often meant as insults, it is sometimes also an observation of the individual’s character.

When individuals say that they are dragons, they don’t mean, unless they are totally out of touch with reality, that they have the physical form of a dragon. They mean they spiritually and “imaginally” relate to being a dragon and in the world of the imaginal, a quite powerful world, they are a dragon. We might say that the imaginal realm is a realm that lives within individuals but above and beyond the material world, influencing it subtly but surely.

Since, from an elven point of view we eventually become what we think, imagine and do, our repetitive actions affecting our physical form through the lifetimes, eventually those who think and imagine and act like dragons (hopefully of the creative sort of Asian lore, rather than the destructive sort of western lore) will physically become dragons as well. We just hope that they actually enjoy it as much as they think they will. But if not, then surely, they will in time become something else.

If you like this article, then you most certainly will enjoy our book Liber Aelph: Words of Guidance from the Silver Elves to our Magical Children in which we discuss the understanding of elves by spirit and spiritual heritage. Liber Aelph is a message from us, the Silver Elves, to our magical children, grandchildren, children’s children’s children and those who come after, including our own s’elves in future lifetimes. It is a guideline for awakening elves to follow as they proceed into the future and the Age of Faerie to come. Yet, it is not a children’s book, save for those very mature children, the elves who like Peter Pan that refuse to grow up and who look to life with the eyes of a child and the heart of the ever young. It is a book of elfin magic and all elves, awakened or awakening, can gain from its wisdom and wry view of life. You can read sample pages of Liber Aelph here on our website.

What Kind of Elf or Otherkin Are You?
And What is Your Elfae or Otherkin Tribe?
For years various kindred have asked us, the Silver Elves, to help them figure this out. You probably know if you are an elf, faerie, or otherkin but now we’ve created a questionnaire in order to help us and you create a narrative about your specific people and your clan, their personal characteristics, magic, relationship to Nature, and interests. This is our gift to you (free), which we think will be a bit of fun for both of us. Give us five minutes of your time and we will give you a half hour to forty minutes of ours. The Elven Tree of Life Eternal: A Magical Quest for One’s True S’Elf is set up like a choose your own adventure book for those who wish to undertake the challenge to discover their true magical s’elves. It will help one understand if one is a wyzard or a sorcerer, a healer or a warrior, an elf of wood, snow, hill, ocean, starlight, or a sprite, a faerie, a gnome, a dwarf, a changeling, a dragon, or some other magical folk. If you wonder about your true magical nature, explore the ever-flowering branches of The Tree of Life Eternal.

And to go with the Elven Tree of Life Eternal are our short stories:

elvensilverweb
ELVEN SILVER: The Irreverent Faery Tales of Zardoa Silverstar

The short stories in Elven Silver were originally written to go along with the Elven Tree of Life Eternal to explore your magical being. In the Elven Tree of Life Eternal, there are different types of elves and faeries that you can come out to be and the bottom has choices of what kind of magic you wield. So these stories in Elven Silver were originally written to go with those. But then we realized that it would be far too much to read on a website, so we made the stories into a book. We have also made the Elven Tree of Life Eternal into a book titled The Elven Tree of Life Eternal: A Magical Quest for One’s True S’Elf, much like a choose your own adventure book, to use to explore your magical nature.

Elven Silver contains a collection of short stories by Zardoa Silverstar, one of the Silver Elves. You will find within this book a western, a detective story, parodies of popular movie and television characters, and re-imaginings of traditional fairy tales all told from an elven point of view in Zardoa’s wry irreverent pixie style. We trust you will enjoy them as much as we do.
