Language is powerful and that is what is at the root of this book. While EYE OF NEWT: An Elfin Witch’s Spell Code is based upon our own Elven Arcane Code, it is at its heart first and foremost a spell book. The Elven Arcane Code, our own secret Arcane Code for elfin spell casting, is included in this book to just add to the fun of it for us Silver Elves and hopefully for you as well but it is the spells that are the true core of this text.

     Eye of Newt includes eight chapters, one each on potions, elixirs, formulas, concoctions, philtres as sacraments, tisanes, tinctures, and scents. Each of these chapters has magic spell recipes for a variety of needs (including beauty and awakening to romance, purification, recovery from illness, good health, energizing, protection, wealth, connecting with ancestors, friendship, grounding, raising energy, improving mind and memory, good luck, pure love, and more) written in the Elven Arcane Code to go with the potions and other formulations, as well as incantations in both English and Arvyndase (the magical language of the Silver Elves). Both the recipe ingredients and the measurement amounts are written in the Elven Arcade Code, so as you read them you will need to look up these in Appendix A of this book to find the translations from the Elven Arcade Code to the English. While suggestions are made in this book on how to use the specific recipes to cast your spells, it is not necessary to ingest the recipes if you feel you may be allergic to any of the ingredients, as the spell will work by simply placing it on your magic table (altar) and reciting the incantations given in this book.

While we have left you ample room to do so, you may wish an alternative to writing (decoding spells) in this book and thus want to have handy your own Book of Shadows (or Book of Twilight as we elves call it) for keeping this information. We suggest that you do write the decoded recipe spells out, and by doing so you will most likely in time learn to be fluent in this secret elven witch spell casting language. Then you will be able to read from this book with ease and also write your own secret spells using the Elven Arcane Code.

Important Note: You are not obligated to eat or drink any of these spell formulations in order for the spell to work. Remember, these spell potions and the other formulations in this book can be set and placed upon your magic table (altar) as offerings for the spirits or put out for the ethereal or other wild fae that abide in Nature or that live on the astral and etheric realms, which is a quite traditional practice as established in fairy legend and lore. Or you may even just dab the potion upon a piece of parchment or paper where you have written out your spell or have inscribed a spirit sigil (see our book An Elfin Book of Spirits) to enhance and empower it. The point is to adapt these spells to your own life, your needs and your magic.

“This is a spell for increasing the power of our souls. We Silver Elves define soul differently than most others. When most people speak of soul or the immortal soul, they are referring to what we’d see as our immortal spirit. For us, soul is a feeling and sensory aspect of our being. It is our connection to others, to all that exists around and about us, and to the all of Nature and the Universe. It is our feeling connection to life.”

“Therefore, when we speak of soul empowerment, we mean increasing one’s ability to feel compassion toward, understand of and to relate to all sorts of people and beings. This, by its nature, means one develops a greater ability to influence others and the world around one on a variety of planes. It is an extension of one’s connectedness in a positive way and furthers one’s magical range and powers.”

“With this spell there is no being nor any situation that one cannot affect and influence. No matter if the individuals are high or low in society or famous or unknown. A Small Sea Shell of Pollen From Flower (any all-purpose or gluten free)

1 and ½ Giant’s Handfuls of Spider’s Silk (dairy or nondairy, or substitute Hair Of Sable – Spit From Cough)

1 and ½ Giant’s Handfuls if mashed white Troll’s Toes

A Cap From Trash of Tears From Human

¼ Acorn’s Cap of Skin Of Stheno’s (or add Moldy Malt to taste)

A Cap From Trash of Fancy Stepper

An Elf’s Handful of shredded Lint From Sweater – Foam From Seas (optional)

chopped fresh Honey Bee Hives for garnish (optional)”

“Directions: [refer to translations in Ingredients above]” 

“In a large pot melt the Scum From Gutter on low heat. Add the Old Woman’s Bunion and caramelize on low heat (usually takes 5 to10 minutes). Once Old Woman’s Bunions are caramelized, add the Pollen From Flower and mix well with the Old Woman’s Bunions. Pour in the Spider’s Silk and stir one minute. Now add the mashed Troll’s Toes and stir as you cook the potion about 10 minutes on low heat, until the Troll’s Toes are smooth. Add Skin Of Stheno’s, Tears From Human and Fancy Stepper. Stir and ladle in bowls, garnish with shredded Lint From Sweater – Foam From Seas and Honey Bee Hives, and use for the spell. Hot or cold, it works as well.”
