We are all aware of the idea of one’s blood family, which today might better be expressed as one’s genetic family or those who most closely share one’s particular sequencing of DNA. For, in a sense, if you look at DNA, we are all family. It is just that some people have sequencing that is closer to ours and others varied from ours, but we all essentially share the same DNA. Even if you look at chimpanzees, their DNA is about 99% similar to human DNA. We may not be close to all the animals on Earth but we are related.
The poet Robert Frost said, “Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.” Yet, despite that families do not always get along with each other. In fact, the idea of dysfunctional families is so common that the very term dysfunctional family is a part of common parlance. Families by blood may share DNA arrangement, but they do not necessarily share much else. Since humanity, as a whole, shares DNA, it can be said that wars are really blood family conflicts.
We elves, however, also have the concept of soul families and spirit families, which is a grouping of those who may or may not closely share one’s genome sequencing arrangement. The soul, as it is used by most individuals, is what we Silver Elves would call the spirit. We don’t actually see the soul as an independent entity, like the idea of an immortal soul, but rather as a function of the immortal spirit. The soul denotes our connection, particularly through our feelings to other beings. In that way, the soul function is rather like our sight and our hearing. We can see other people. We can hear other people. But we can also feel other people, both in a tactile sense but also in an inner feeling and intuitive sense. This is often signified by a feeling of being simpatico, which may indicate a person that one finds to be likable and with whom one gets along easily and with whom one shares attributes or interests and is immediately compatible in a feeling way.
Simpatico is derived from the Greek noun sympatheia, which means “sympathy,” and is a loan word that came into the English language from both Italian and Spanish. To be simpatico is to have a mutual feeling of sympathy and a soul family are those who naturally feel good about each other and feel comfortable in each other’s presence.
We may also point out that the word ‘Duende’ that is used in the folklore of Spain and Portugal and thus by extension Latin America and the Philippines, describes a supernatural being or spirit resembling a pixie or imp or some other elfae being. One of the ‘little people’ as we tend to be called. But note that duende is derived from the term ‘duen de casa,’ which means ‘master of the house’ and this would tend to link it to brownies or other house fae/spirits and teraphim.
But duende also signifies a heightened state of emotional or feeling expression that is genuine and authentic, often associated with flamenco or other performance arts. We elfae feel things deeply and truly and our soul family naturally shares those feelings with us. We are the soul of the house, the soul of the family. We are drawn together naturally for our inner beings are connected and similar in a sort of astral genome sequencing.
A spirit family, however, is somewhat different. Individuals in a spirit family share the same purpose and goals. They may or may not be sympatico with each other, but they are allied for a purpose and drawn together to achieve their common vision. This can be seen in some religious groups, especially cults, but also in political movements. And often, but not always, this shared vision leads to a sort of sympatico among the participants. They feel special together, they are the enlightened, illuminated, the elect, the ‘ones’, etc. One can also find this in military groups, especially among ‘elite’ units, where fighting together and facing danger in common creates a sort of ‘fellow feeling’ among them.
However, a spirit family doesn’t necessarily create a soul family. Often in cults the individuals involved are jockeying with each other to rise in the hierarchy of the group, which means get closer and closer to the charismatic leader. Such a situation creates infighting and ill feelings that naturally work against soul family connection. We Silver Elves have lived with others with whom we shared a common purpose but who were not necessarily sympatico even though there was not a cult leader we were following, but rather sharing the Elven Path together for a period of time. And we’ve had elf friends who did not share our commitment to awakening elfae and the awareness of Elfin being on the Earth, with whom, none-the-less, we were and are quite soul aligned.
However, it should be clear that, at least from our Silver Elves point of view, that having a spirit family that is also one’s soul family is the very best situation. For such a soulful spirit family, we would call an Elven Family.
