Someone asked us this in one of our Facebook groups (if you have not joined us there yet, please do scroll down and see our list of 16 elfae and otherkin The Silver Elves groups in which all who are interested are invited). And yes, our book Sticks and Stones, Feathers, Charms and Bones: An Original Oracle of the Elfin Peoples of the Ancient Future can be used for magic. But then nearly all oracles are useful in magic overall just doing what they do best, which is giving us some sense of what will be or the possibilities, potentialities and sometimes the difficulties of what may lay ahead of us as well as understanding what the potential effects will be of the magic we have done.
The most common ways in which we use our oracles for magic is doing an oracle prior to actually doing a major working of any sort to see if the time is propitious for that particular magic. The ancients are famous for this, for doing astrology or other oracles to find the right time for their magic as well as any major undertaking in their lives and this is true among the Asian peoples, as well as the Western folk and true among Men as well as among we elfae kind.
We should point out that we draw an I Ching every day from our The Elven Book of Changes : A Magical Interpretation of the I Ching just to see what the theme of the day will be. But for a magic working, we might throw the Ching again for a specific evocation as well as throwing out some Tarot cards as well. When we do throw out the cards, we mean that rather literally, for our cards jump out really as we shuffle them and those are the cards we read (see our youtube video that demonstrates the ‘elven shuffle’ at <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCMGCEDZqo0>).
But we will also do an oracle or two after we’ve done some magic as well to get some sense of how it went. And later, when the signs appear and the synchronicities and other happenstances that are clearly an effect of our magic occurs, we may do more oracles to help us interpret and understand their meaning. You might get the idea that we do a lot of oracles or do the oracles a lot and, well, yes, we do. It is not only helpful but a lot of fun as well.
But some oracles not only may be used to give us a view into what will come or what has occurred or the meaning of what has happened but can also be used as magical implements themselves. Take our book The Elven Book of Powers: Using the Tarot for Magical Wish Fulfillment that describes how one can use individual tarot cards (or a combination thereof) as a means of drawing certain energies to one or avoiding unwanted or intrusive energies in one’s life. We did this for years, drawing cards every day for our magic, although you can also select the particular energies you wish to evoke or invoke. However, we Silver Elves are rather fond of letting the cards fall out as they may and using the energies that come to us.
These days instead of drawing the cards every day, although we still do the I Ching at least once a day, we throw out the cards as needed, often letting them sit on our various magic tables for days or weeks or sometimes a year at a time next to the photos of our particular loved ones that we are seeking to help, protect and positively influence through our magic.
On the other hand, our book Elven Geomancy: An Ancient Oracle of the Elfin Peoples for Divination and Spell Casting is particularly formulated for the use with magic and with elven mudras and gestures. While the Tarot as an oracle didn’t become popular until after the middle ages, geomancy, along with astrology, was very popular and frequently used by the ancient peoples, which is to say the ancient cultures of Men and not necessarily the even older ancient cultures of we elfae folk, which extends back into pre-history.
The thing about geomancy is the process doesn’t just give you one answer but a series of oracles leading up to the final reply and all of these can be formulated into a sort of magical working or ceremony/ritual when you are using our elvish version of geomancy.
Our book The Faerie Song Oracle: The Elven Way of Singing Down Magic of the Fae has tones or sounds that you can use with your magic. Again, you can merely open the book and choose the energy that you wish to evoke, although we Silver Elves are always inclined to do the oracle and see what energies we are dealing with in the first place.
As to our book Sticks and Stones, Feathers, Charms and Bones, which was what prompted this question in the first place, it can be set up quite wonderfully as a sort of vision board. To do this oracle, one needs to make a board (we used brown paper) upon which one throws the feathers, charms or whatever one chooses to use for deriving the oracle. However, one could easily have the board on a magic table and place the various oracle pieces in those areas that one wishes to promote in terms of the day or as an overall goal. In that way, the Sticks and Stones, Feathers, Charms and Bones board becomes your magic table.
Although, you could also draw it on the floor or ground with chalk or some other medium and use that as you magic circle. We, for our own part, have painted some of our magic circles on large round table clothes that we can then take with us anywhere, put on the floor, house or forest, and have a readymade circle available.
So, the answer is Sticks and Stones, Feathers, Charms and Bones and nearly every other oracle can also be used in one’s magic and quite wonderfully so. Give it a try.

ELVEN GEOMANCY is an original system of divination by The Silver Elves that creates a magical ritual with each forecast. The Silver Elves have created a new divination system for modern elves and faerie folk drawing from the ancient geomancy of ages past. It differs quite a bit from the traditional geomancy that was used by the ancients and the people of the Renaissance and Middle Ages. That form of geomancy was at one time rather widely known and popular among diviners, although it has, for the most part, fallen out of use today. This book is another of our original Elven divination systems that we have created to be used by Elfae and all other interested diviners. It uses the ten Sacred Magical Treasures of The Silver Elves as a base. The original oracle board is featured on the cover of this book, which contains both an Inner and Outer Circle, each circle containing the Sacred Magical Treasures of The Silver Elves.
There are ten of these Sacred Magical Treasures of The Silver Elves in all: The Orb of Healing, The Wand of Wishing, The Coin of the Realm, The Feather of Truth Telling, The Magic Mirror of Reflection, The Sack of Giving, The Philtre of True Love, The Phial of Eternal Youth, The Elf Horns of Calling and the The Torch of the Eternal Silver Flame. In this system, to cast the oracle, one may simply throw the sticks, stones, feathers, charms and bones upon the board and read the outcome according to the position in which they land. The oracle interpretations for this method are found within this book.
The introduction to the book explains how to make your own board (with instructions and a clear black and white image of the board included), how to gather and use your tokens (to represent your sticks, stones, feathers, charms and bones), and instructions on how to go about using this book to read and interpret the oracle. You may ask of the oracle to give you a general reading of what is to come in your life, in which case you will use all the tokens. Or you may wish to ask a very specific question, like, “What is my power in this situation?” In which case, you may wish to only use the Personal Charm. Or you may ask, “In what fashion will the spirits help me?” and then the Otherworldly Charm might be best. Or if you want to know what is behind the situation, what karma or fate has brought you to this circumstance, then the Small Stone might be the wisest choice. But for a balanced reading, it is perhaps best to throw all the magical objects, either together or one at a time to see the various aspects of the situation and get a full view of what is going on.
