Does One Have to be Brave and Courageous to Enter Elfin and Faerie?

“Elfin is less dangerous than Faerie and one is usually much safer there. Still, it does take a certain courage to live one’s life as an elf in the world …. For following the Elven Way and living one’s life as an elf in the world, automatically moves one closer to the realms of Elfin that
begin to appear about one, manifesting as
a consequence of one’s magic.”

Faerie, particularly, is like a dream world. One might have pleasant dreams or one may have nightmares. One doesn’t need to be courageous to sleep usually, but there are those who stay awake as much as possible for fear of their dreams. We’ve known some people like this. So, in a sense, it does take a bit of courage to intentionally go into the Faerie realms and take one’s chances on what one might encounter there for one might encounter a nightmare.

At the same time, many a fool has wandered into Faerie unknowingly and they weren’t necessarily brave in doing so. And many a kind and gentle soul has ventured into Faerie as well and been protected and guided by the fae folk who love them and find them intriguing. So, while being courageous is surely a strength and a power that some folks have, not all of us are courageous and while courage can help if one is determined to adventure into the Unseelie realms of Faerie, there is nothing that bars the timid from entering Faerie. If you have just a pinch of courage or simply are heedless of the dangers, you may still find your way there.

The same is true in a sense of Elfin although, for the most part, Elfin is less dangerous than Faerie and one is usually much safer there. Still, it does take a certain courage to live one’s life as an elf in the world and in doing so come closer to Elfin. For following the Elven Way and living one’s life as an elf in the world, automatically moves one closer to the realms of Elfin that begin to appear about one, manifesting as a consequence of one’s magic, whenever one does so.

The World of the normal folk can be a harsh and dangerous place at times for the elfin, as well as for nearly everyone else. So, we might ask ours’elves, does one have to be courageous to live in the world. And the answer is, well, it helps but there are many of us timid folk, doing our best to be brave in encountering the world, who really aren’t all that courageous really.

In many ways, it takes a great deal more courage to live in the normal world and among the normal folk than it does to live in Elfin or Faerie. They can be a dangerous lot and once you realize the truth, that the normal world is really just Faerie in disguise, it is all the same really. What can we do but be the best elves we can be and trust that our kindred will find us and take us home to Elfin where we will be truly safe.

And it should be remembered, there are different types of courage. Some folks might be physically brave and willing to stand up to potential violence and aggressiveness but not very brave morally or spiritual. They may face the enemy on the battlefield but don’t dare oppose or challenge the customs and dictates of the traditions of their society.

And some elves and fae just aren’t ready to live openly as elfae in the world and so do privately, in the closet, so to speak, and they still draw closer to Elfin and Faerie by doing so. They may not be brave enough to wave their elf flag, or banner, or gonfalon or whatever in the world, but by living the life Elfin they grow closer to it. And really, that is courage enough, isn’t?

What Kind of Elf or Otherkin Are You?
And What is Your Elfae or Otherkin Tribe?

For years various kindred have asked us, the Silver Elves, to help them figure this out. You probably know if you are an elf, faerie, or otherkin but now we’ve created a questionnaire in order to help us and you create a narrative about your specific people and your clan, their personal characteristics, magic, relationship to Nature, and interests. This is our gift to you (free), which we think will be a bit of fun for both of us. Give us five minutes of your time and we will give you a half hour to forty minutes of ours. Simply follow this link and the directions on that page:

The Elven Way: The Magical Path of The Shining Ones

(Excerpt below from The Elven Way, page 141)
“As the awakened elf takes on greater initiation and begins to function creatively in cooperation with the Shining Ones and with Faerie itself, which is to say the Source, the great Magic, hir magical growth is quickened by the increased power and the intensity of the forces that sHe now uses for hir magical creations. Naturally, this causes a rapidity of evolutionary development that will not be found in your average normal person who most often not only doesn’t embrace change, as the adept elf does, but actively avoids it, in fact, is in many ways terrified by its possibilities. This acceptance of new energies and possibilities by the elf, tends to arouse here-to-fore un-accessed parts of hir being, awakening latent talents, powers and abilities. Remember most humans only use a small portion of their brain capacity, and this increase in energetic connection tends to illuminate greater portions of our brains. In time, this development will prove evolutionarily significant.”

“There are a number of effects of this evolutionary initiatory development for the adept elf, the first of which is that since the elf’s powers are being heightened, the elf thus has more power to do good, as well as being faced with greater temptation, which is to say opportunity, to misuse this power. This is where the development of magical maturity becomes so very important. The elf comes to understand that magic is the use of will power to create effects in the world, but also that initiation requires the development of magical and enlightened intent. It is not enough to be able to create change according to one’s will, one needs to create the type of change that will rebound positively for hir and all others and bring hir ever closer to Faerie by increasing hir awareness of and actualization of hir own true s’elf.”

SMILING FACES . . . . . .

Know the truth in a world of seeming
Elfin manifest all about
Waken now from nightmares dreaming
Elfin puts all fears to rout.

Smiling faces do surround you
Brothers, sisters, cousins, too
Faerie, elf, and pixie beaming
As you realize anew.

The truth of life is one with meaning
A meaning found in love’s embrace
Beneath the trees that are ever gleaming
Radiant upon each elven face.
