About Being an Elf in Prison

March 28, 2017

The following is an answer to a young elf who wrote us and asked us what we would say to an elf who is in the prison system:

As far as being a prison elf that hardly defines you. We are all prisoners of this world, trapped in matter, and even more trapped in the enculturated belief and habit patterns that the world offers us. Most folks in prison, we expect, as in the outer world, are merely fulfilling role models that have been set before them from ages long past. In many ways, except for having to interact with very unenlightened individuals on a daily basis, your life isn’t entirely unlike that of monks (who also, sometimes, have to deal with the unenlightened at times as well as strict and limiting rules of living). Although, we ours’elves have never been in prison, except to participate as guests in The Game at Marion Federal Penitentiary many ages go, so our understanding of what you encounter and the pressures you are under is extremely limited.

Of course, unlike most who might be of the Buddhist/monkish variety of elves, which is to say, those who feel we should do all we can to evolve beyond the material world, these elves are of the notion that we need to learn to master the world, not through force but through enchantment, and not by working outwardly so much as developing our powers inwardly. Having said that, like all else in life, saying is much easier than doing, also a great deal quicker. We, like you, struggle each day to improve ours’elves and to become better as elven spirits and soulful beings and as far as we can see we are many lifetimes away from achieving even our most humble goals. This is where perseverance becomes essential and endurance a most subtle and great power.
