Is Magick a Privilege or a Right?

May 1, 2019

“It can be both, but in the end, we seek to have powers that originate from our inner being rather than those that we are simply given or are loaned to us for a time.”

When Tolkien’s Frodo, Bilbo and Gollum had the ring that gave them the power of invisibility, the magick that they used was in the form of a privilege. As long as they possessed the ring (or the ring possessed them) they could use its powers, but the power was not their own and as soon as they lost the ring they lost the power.

The same idea is essentially contained in the idea of the genie or djinn in a lamp, in which an individual rubs the lamp (why not light it?) and a genie comes forth and must do their bidding. As long as they possess the lamp, they can direct the power of the djinn. And this is the essential idea with all sorts of magic objects, rings of power, enchanted swords, cloaks, boots, and so forth. The power belongs to the individual only as long as they have the magic object in their possession.

This is similar to the powers individuals obtain when they are elected President, Premier or hold some other official position where they may wield certain powers only as long as they hold the office. The power does not belong to them, it is only on loan, so to speak, it is a privilege but not a right.

We might say that prayer, which is the evocation of a particular deity, is a form of magick, but in prayer one becomes utterly subservient to and dependent upon the beneficence, grace or whim of that deity. One has given up any magick as either right or privilege and becomes much like villagers who go to the local witch to cast spells for love or success for them.

On the other hand, we have ceremonial magicians who are supposed to have formulas by which they might wield power over beings/demons/spirits who have power. In certain ways, this is rather like blackmail or the coercive practices of gangsters. You can blackmail a person into doing something they don’t wish to do but they never really like it and you can never really trust them not to betray you at the very first opportunity. This is the ‘power over’ sort of magick and this is popular among men. Is this power a right or a privilege? Well, it’s a mixture really. They have obtained the power to force the individual with power to do their bidding. It is a sort of right/rite, but an indirect right. They are still dependent upon outside forces to carry out their will, and usually, we are told, carry it out unwillingly. It is rather the power of the lion tamer. He never knows when they might take exception to his commands.

This idea of ‘power over’ is quite popular in the thinking of many men, and goblins and orcs and dark sorcerers, too. They are often heard to say in movies that one can’t be given power, it must be seized, it must be taken to be one’s own and here they are speaking of a distinction between privilege, elected office, we might say, and right of power, the assumption of power through the use of power. While some might question the legitimacy of power so obtained, few can deny the reality of such power. It is power obtained, even if by force, not power granted, although, uneasy rests the crown.

Similar in some ways is the magician or witch who carries out barter with spirits. The spirits still have the essential power, why else would the magician evoke them, but the witch/wizard/magician offers something in exchange for the spirits help. We might call this commercial magic. One is buying what one desires or trading for it really. This surely is, in part, the source of the idea that ‘magic always has a price’, that is so popular in modern media. In a certain sense this is a more reliable magic, since you don’t always have to fear that the spirits are out to trick or betray you, but like in business, as the Romans said, “Caveat Emptor,” “Let the buyer beware.” You still have to be sure of the reliability of the spirits you evoke.

Magick, as originally conceived, was the evocation of the powers of Nature and setting them into motion through the appropriate formulas. This is magick as being similar to chemistry. If you know the right formula and put the ingredients together in the proper measure and proper order and under the right conditions, things will turn out as you desire. The right of magick here might be thought in terms of forcing one’s will upon Nature, but the right comes from knowledge. It is not a privilege but an attainment of esoteric information that one can use to obtain what sHe (she/he) desires. And one might say one uses force, but really one uses the flow and tendencies of Nature. It is the understanding of the power of the fulcrum, the use of magick as block and tackle. It is not so much about the application of force but the transference of force.

In Buddhist thought, we are ultimately conceived to be one with our environment. We, as magic wielders, command the world and create it in the same way we command our own bodies. We are not forcing something outside of us to do this or that, but moving our own being as we will. Thus, we have people in the Matrix and other films telling someone who is attempting telekinesis not to move the object so much as be the object and then move.

We elves understand that we are not just channels of the magick for some outer force. Although it is an attunement with the magic of Nature around us, our magick is primarily the expression of our own inner being. The Magic Divine exists as potential in everything, but it is by arousing it within ourselves that we effect things magically outside ourselves. In that way, it does not just channel through us but also from us and then we can effect what is around us. Another way of saying this is that we are a part of the Magic Divine, so we just have to find it within ourselves and express it. This is also why self awareness and development is so important, in that we must clear the way within our consciousness in order to reach this potential.

We elves are primarily enchanters. It is true we have, and do, study all sort of magick, astrology, yoga and various other esoteric studies from various cultures around the world, but our primary use of magick is ever though enchantment, which involves the development of our own charms, personality and beings. It is true that we may get others to do things for us, and we surely reciprocate for their efforts, often giving them more than they gave us, but we don’t force spirits to act for us, and those who do serve us do so willingly and really are not outside of us, so much as a part of our magical and enchanting elfin family.

If there is privilege involved, it is our privilege in knowing and being associated with such wonderful kindred, on whatever plane they may currently be. If there is barter, it is in terms of mutual exchange and appreciation. We never have to fear that they are cheating us, because we will always give them more anyway. And it is a right because it is by virtue of our own efforts to develop ours’elves that we have obtained the authority that others lend us and is born of our own inner confidence, in ours’elves and also our confidence in them.

So, is magick a privilege or a right? It can be both, but in the end, we seek to have powers that originate from our inner being rather than those that we are simply given or are loaned to us for a time. Still, we elves don’t mind gifts and we ever seek to use them well so that what we have been given, even for a short while, will bear abundant fruit for the future.

The Elements of Elven Magic: A New View of Calling the Elementals
Based Upon the Periodic Table of Elements

THE ELEMENTS OF ELVEN MAGIC: A New View of Calling the Elementals Based Upon the Periodic Table of Elements is a book to use for summoning and evoking elements to help you in your life and magick. Taking a new look at the idea of the elements and the elementals, the Silver Elves have once again merged the reality of Science, which is Nature, and Occult tradition and have introduced the elements of Earth, Fire, Air and Water into the modern age of the Periodic Table of Elements. It is a new and original view of the Ways of the Ancients as expected of the Elves. The Silver Elves present for your consideration a new and elven way at pursuing the magical art of evocation of the Elements and the Elementals. Their wish is that it serves you well and hopefully evokes your own imagination and stirs your particular and individual style of magick.

“To the elven, magick is much like romance. We don’t attempt to force our way on others, we seek to charm them into assisting our will. But we do so because we find them amazing and lovely and trust that through our enchantments, they will consider us so as well. It is a dance and hopefully ever mutually fulfilling.”

The Circle of Magic . . . . . .

The circle of magic
Goes ever round,
What we did in the past
In the present is found.

And spells we do now
In the future unfold,
In the time and the place
That our actions foretold.

So choose with great care
The choices you make,
For all you will give
Is all you did take.

And all that you gift
Will be your return
To Elfin most fair
With the lessons you learn.

An elven poem for you on this beautiful day!

I WISH TO DANCE FOREVER FREE . . . . . .

“I wish to dance forever free
Upon the dewy down
As starlight through the mist does see
The glimmering of her gown.

And here and there about me round
They come with loving smiles
To dance and play the night away
With their enchanting wiles.

And where we step the moss springs back
No trace that we have been
Except in our deep memories
Shared among elf kin.

And others coming after
In the morning light
Find nothing of our revelry
But a vague sense of delight.”

Do Elves Do Blood Magic?

April 1, 2019
hruins
“This idea of blood sacrifice is a product of the Kali Yuga, the dark age that we are still in during this modern era, this most material or materialistic age where people seem to see everything from a materialistic point of view. . . . we speak here about the true energy that powers magic and while many people believe it is bloodletting, we elves do not. . . . It is not blood or any other material thing that delights the Shining Ones who help, guide and aid us as best they are able, but our happiness that delights them, just as a child’s delight brings joy to the hearts of the adults that watch hir (her/him) so our joy brings greater delight to those kindred of ours who live upon the more subtle planes of manifestation.”
Note: The photo shown above is one we Silver Elves took of the Kaneaki Heiau in Makaha, on the island of O’ahu. When we first moved to Hawaii in 2008, we lived just a short ways down the valley from this restored Heiau and visited it a few times. We were told by local native Hawaiians that the Menehune (the “Little People”, elven or dwarf folk) and other wee folk of Hawaii, are said to have built this temple, Kaneaki Heiau, in the 15th century as a sacred site for the local chief to honor the Rain Goddess and to serve Lono, the God of agriculture. It was a peaceful temple until later in the 17th century when King Kamehameha I rededicated this temple to “Ku” the God of war and it was then used as a place where prisoners of war were sacrificed. This practice ceased in the early 1800s.

Part One: Does magic always require sacrifice? If so, does it require a blood sacrifice of some sort?

We are approaching Easter, a time in the year when a major religion in the world celebrates the willing blood sacrifice of their promised Messiah, his death and resurrection. This is a good time to examine sacrifice in magic and if bloodletting is truly required.

Blood magic is based upon the idea that is commonly put forth in television shows, movies and books about magic that magic always has a cost, always requires a sacrifice of some sort and that that sacrifice is commonly blood or life in some form. The fact that this idea that magic always has a cost is repeated again and again over decades in the popular media makes it suspect in the minds of elves. Anything the normal folk unthinkingly parrot as truth, in the experience of these elves, is usually false or a twisted version of the reality created to reinforce their particular prejudices concerning the nature of life and the world. And we automatically examine it just because they believe it to be so and they are almost always mistaken.

So, let’s consider this idea that magic always requires sacrifice and that blood is usually the most common and effective sacrifice one can render, not dismiss it out of hand, but render it due consideration as to its value and veracity. After all, as they tell us even a broken clock is right twice a day (unless it’s a digital clock and then it’s probably not keeping time at all) and the world of the normals is often very much like a broken clock, ever trying to run backwards or keep time perpetually the same and unchanging.

Surely, most things in life require effort. Magic is basically action based on intention and action requires us to do something, so certainly we could say that magic does require some energy input to occur, yet, on the other hand, there is both the magic that we do and the magic that we experience. The idea as expressed on some bumper stickers that Magic Happens, has some truth to it. Some magic just seems to happen and these elves have been the recipients of a great deal of luck in our lives of which we didn’t do anything at all (at least not in this lifetime) to necessarily make it happen or deserve it except to be our own true s’elves.

Yet, to do magic ours’elves, to create enchantments … that does require a bit of energy. Still, from an elven point of view the best enchantments require very little input and give a great deal in return, so much so that one is surely getting more than one is putting out and thus has more than enough to invest again. Enchantments pay off, and the best enchantments seem effortless. Isn’t that really the idea of magic as well as good business that investment brings greater profit? If we plant a seed and it grows into a tree that produces fruit for generations, we have invested little and gained a great deal. That’s elven magic.

But does magic always cost? If we wish to turn on the lights and we wave our hand and the light comes on, that requires us to wave our hand, surely. Not to mention, but we will, the electricity bill. Yet, we could just walk out into the daylight and get light for free, except we’d have to get off our butts and walk out. And who hasn’t felt the sun on them and sensed its great magic, or looked at a night sky filled with stars and not experienced the magic it brings, or the magic and enchantment of the night itself. Yet, clearly at least minimum of effort is involved. So, in as much as everything in life requires some effort or investment, magic surely does as well. Although, again, one can experience magic for free. It is all about us.

But does that investment need to be blood, by which is generally meant pain or harm in some way to a living being (oneself or others)? And as a side note, why on televisions shows are they nearly always cutting themselves across their palms? That’s a hard place to heal, being flexed so often, wouldn’t it be better, if one did offer blood to prick one’s thumb, as in the fairy tales?

We won’t even get into the idea of killing chickens and other animals and all that other stuff that isn’t really sacrifice at all, except to say that all true sacrifice must be voluntary and leave it at that. We Silver Elves have spoken of this issue elsewhere numerous times.

But if we believe that sacrifice is necessary, and done properly, which is to say willingly, why blood sacrifice? Why not spit, or feces or urine? What is blood really but a carrier of our DNA and genetic coding. How about our our semen? Doesn’t that have our DNA in it?

This idea of blood sacrifice is a product of the Kali Yuga, the dark age that we are still in during this modern era, this most material or materialistic age where people seem to see everything from a materialistic point of view. Just as people talk about being of the elven blood and saying that they can trace their ancestry back to the Scythians and that thus in itself makes them elven, so blood is thought by materialistic thinkers to be somehow efficacious in terms of magic. But our question remains. Why not semen? Wouldn’t it be just as or even more efficacious?

Certainly, urine or feces or spit might be effective in spells that involve banishing someone. After all, aren’t we magically saying that they should ‘piss off’. And when we have contempt for people, don’t we spit at or on them, cursing them as we do so? So why is blood thought to be so powerful?

Well, urine and feces are waste products. Certainly, we don’t wish to offer the spirits something that is considered unworthy and essentially worthless, (although it can in time become great fertilizer and how precious is that?). And we could probably say the same about spit. But semen isn’t a waste product, per se. It is the essence of life. Shouldn’t that be a fitting offering. In certain ways, even more fitting? And a few strands of our hair pulled from our head would also be full of our DNA.

But we elves ask to whom are they giving sacrifice, or offering, and why? Devotees make offerings to their gods and demi-gods and goddesses of blood to demonic spirits, while offering fruit and other offerings to more benevolent beings. But to whom are magic wielders sacrificing blood or whatever to? To gods? To spirits? If so, what sort of magicians are they that require and appeal to intermediaries to do the magic for them? They might as well be praying for rain. The magician exercises power directly. He or she tosses a ball (a ball of light), sHe (he/she) doesn’t appeal to, or depend upon, some spirit to toss the ball for hir (her/him). (See Frazer and the introduction to The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion.) The enchantment/magician wields power, so what does blood or sacrifice have to do with it? We elven magicians strive to act in accordance with laws of Nature, not appeal to outside forces to act for us.

“To the elven, magic is much like romance. We don’t attempt to force our way on others, we seek to charm them into assisting our will. But we do so because we find them amazing and lovely and trust that through our enchantments, they will consider us so as well. It is a dance and hopefully ever mutually fulfilling.”
—The Silver Elves

Part Two: If the true energy that powers magic is not bloodletting, why is it in popular culture today?

The idea of blood magic, in our opinion, while it has wormed its way into popular culture really comes from religion. Of course, because the normal folk consider believing in god to be normal, they will pretend they do so, although in truth the only thing that they often really believe in is appearances and social position and hierarchy. But we are not here to criticize the herd for doing what they have learned is best suited to surviving and advancing in the world. They do what they do because they are survivors (as are we all up until we die), and they tell us this repeatedly. They even wear tee shirts declaring their survival skills. Long ages of surviving have inculcated these behaviors within them. Just as the long ages of being the weirdos, the strange elfae others that we are, have delighted our soulful spirits.

In the most ancient of times, shamans and magicians didn’t offer sacrifice to gods or spirits to do our magic for us. We studied the laws of Nature, really, we might say the Ways of Nature, or the Tendencies of Nature, since law makes Nature sound less flexible than it truly is. It can be exact surely, but it can also change like the weather as well. We used the powers of Nature to fulfill our wills. We didn’t seek to violate Nature but to nudge it gently here and there, making life more abundant and secure, while using its propensities to our own advantage.

And then, perhaps it was, we came upon the Djinn, the elemental spirits of fire, wind, earth and water. We began making deals and pacts and using ceremonial magick to summon them, to direct them according to our will (see Jonathan Stroud’s novel The Amulet of Samarkand) and bargains were struck and many magic wielders became somewhat dependent upon them, for they could do amazing things. Djinn began being seen as gods and magicians became priest magicians and then just priests. Well, most anyway, don’t forget us elves, us fae, us weirdo others who continue to remember who we truly are and what magic and enchantment are as well and have always really been.

Djinn as gods needed offerings and sacrifice and, of course, obedience in light of the covenant form with them. At first, the magicians demanded absolute obedience from the Djinn and then the tables got turned, the magic entangled and the slaves became the masters, as they nearly always do in time. Heed this well you who still seek to dominate others. Nature informs us of the cycles of life and the alteration of high and low. Everyone has their time, in the course of the lifetimes.

And then blood came into it. Why blood? It’s a curious thing. Born of conflict and the need for certain dark spirits to feed. But somewhere in all this, there is the love/hate relationship Mankind has with Women. Women that they adore, Women that they despise, Women that they exploit, oppress and treat as though they were their pets, that they can whip if they don’t obey. Women who, even today, don’t often get equal pay for equal work.

Women bleed, regularly. Women are witches, nearly always, even when they don’t know that they are so or practice consciously. Yet, the menstrual blood of Women has long been considered impure. In some religions, Women are not even allowed to enter the so-called holy places when they are having their monthlies. This blood is seen as contaminated, as profane. It is cast off blood and their gods, like vampires, want living blood.

And yet, those who are dominators still fear Women’s power. Why else would they oppress and exploit them? Wanting them to stay in their place, which is also what they tell their slaves and others that they oppress and exploit and look down upon, treating them as though they were less worthy due only to their gender, race or some other arbitrary factor. Women are magic, they know this in their unconscious even if they don’t admit it in their conscious minds. And Women’s magic, for the most part, is Natural Magic. The Old Magic, the Ancient Magic, the True Magic. Which is, in part, why many ancient shamans dressed in what might be seen as unisexual attire. Magic is about Nature, for Nature is Magic and magic is beyond sexual gender, while incorporating sex within it.

But let’s not stray too far from our topic, for this is not a screed about the oppression of Women or others. Our topic is not directly about the inequalities of the normal folk or their illogical and sometimes absolutely lunatic and misguided ideas concerning magic, not to mention nearly everything else, but rather we speak here about the true energy that powers magic and while many people believe it is bloodletting, we elves do not.

Women are magical not because they bleed regularly, but because they are, for the most part, more attuned to their own instinctual feelings and their own nature. Plus, they give birth (with some input from males). And that in itself is a sort of Thaumaturgy, a magic of creating miracles.

And if you have an elf child or have encounter one, you will know that they are miraculous beings, filled with ancient wisdom and magic. These little ones create magic without even trying. Which is true magic, indeed. They are enchanters supreme and while they are not yet educated in the ways of the world, their fresh and often unique observations upon it offer much that one can learn from. They inspire us and while it is true they may spill a bit of blood now and again, that isn’t what makes them magic or gives them their great powers of enchantment. And when they do so we, for our part, kiss it and make it better, so what does that tell you of the ancient elven ars magica?

“If you ask the elves what the greatest magical power is,
they will tell you healing, for healing sets everything aright.
And if you ask them what healing consists of,
they will tell true love, for true love heals all things.
And if you ask them what the source of true love is,
they will tell you it is the Divine Magic,
for the Divine Magic loves all of life and
eternally seeks its happiness and fulfillment.”

—The Silver Elves

Part Three: If not sacrifice, then what is the key to energizing the magic?

We suggested in Part One of our answer to the question “Do elves do blood magic?” that the use of other bodily fluids, such as sweat, saliva, urine or semen might be just as effective as an energy of magic as the all too common concept of the shedding of blood, depending, of course, upon the particular spell. But in doing so we were still looking at magic and its empowerment from a materialistic point of view in which something physical needs to be used to activate the magic, which is essentially spiritual in nature, blood being the substance most often used and referred to in books, movies, and television shows.

But the elven point of view, and thus our perspective concerning magic and enchantment, is not primarily material in nature any more than our own conception of our elfin being is material. Our material bodies are transitory manifestations of our spirits and our soulful energy. We are not our bodies. Our bodies are just clothes, so to speak, that our spirits are wearing. And while we may be descended by genetics, which is to say, by blood, from those individuals such as the ancient Scythians who are currently regarded as being some of the ancient elves, and thus from the Bloodline of the Elven (see De Vere The Dragon Legacy), it is our spirits and our magic that actually determine if we are elven or not. It is our elven natures that make us elven, really, not our physical bodies.

So, it is that when we suggested that seminal fluid might be as, or more, efficacious in creating magic, we were really making a sort of materialistic analogy or metaphor for the reality of the situation. It is not blood, or semen or any other physical fluid that is the key to energizing the magic, but ecstasy as evidenced by both the practices of ancient and modern shamans and tantric practitioners. Joy, happiness and pleasure are the true activators of magic. Sexual effluvia is merely the byproduct of that energy and activity. (see Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy by Mircea Eliade.)

It is not blood or any other material thing that delights the Shining Ones who help, guide and aid us as best they are able, but our happiness that delights them, just as a child’s delight brings joy to the hearts of the adults that watch hir (her/him) so our joy brings greater delight to those kindred of ours who live upon the more subtle planes of manifestation.

Why is this so? It is so because the nature of the higher planes of being are ecstatic (see The Tibetan Book of the Dead: Liberation Through Understanding the Between translated by Robert A. F. Thurman). The realms of Elfin, of the heavenly realms, the realms of paradise as formulated by various peoples are places where happiness abides, love rules, and joy lives in the hearts of each and all. By creating ecstatic states of being, which is to say by being happy, being joyous and filled with ecstatic energy, we are attuning ours’elves to those higher realms and the spirits who abide there, making it easier to communicate with them as well as enchant much of the world around us. In experiencing the joy of ecstatic being, we become like the Shining Ones, one of them, and share in their great power to move and affect the worlds.

Oh, it is true there are dark spirits in the world who are in so much pain that they can’t abide happiness in others and seek to destroy that happiness, even though that will not help them even a little bit to find happiness themselves and will just drag them deeper into the wicked magics that have ensnared them. But, they have given up on the idea that happiness is even possible for them and they simply wish others to share their misery and suffering, although misery is like fire, sharing it doesn’t make it any less. They offer blood and suffering to the darkness but while doing so may give them a temporary psychotic thrill, that path nearly always ends with madness and despair.

So, it is that we elfin must sometimes hide our magic, restrain from flaunting our happiness, while remaining aware, as the Shining Ones are, that while we are filled with joy within there are others who have yet to realize that the true nature of the Universe is ecstasy, which is the source of all true magic. Thus, we go forth humbly, our joy serene, as we seek our kindred in the world and spread the magic that arises from the delight of being elven.

What is the Elven Point of View about People Choosing their Lives before Birth?

October 6, 2018
faerieUnfolding
“In the long run, all limitations placed upon us in choosing another life, are our own.
It is our own soulful spirit that guides us toward its fulfillment and that chooses
a life most likely to lead toward enlightenment and elevation of our being.”

From an elven point of view, people do choose their lives before birth but there are a number of qualifying considerations of a limiting sort that affect this choice. First, of course, is Karma. Karma, first and foremost, limits our choices. It’s rather like going into a clothing store to buy a new outfit, but one only has so much money to spend, and thus one’s choices are limited. Also Karma requires us to pay back what we owe and thus it reduces the amount of possibilities, the choices we have for another life. Most of the really great lives and situations have been taken by those who’ve earned enough to select them and have the spiritual development to both deserve and embrace them.

When we speak about Karma as requiring us to repay what we owe, this is not so much an external principle to us but an inner one. As we rise in our spiritual development, we are compelled from our inner spiritual soul to repay what we owe, as the more developed we are spiritually, the more we wish to be united with all of life and love is our inner guiding principle. We expand our consciousness to understand on deeper and deeper levels that all spirits are equal in an essential fashion, all are expressions of the Divine Magic.

But this aspect of karma isn’t the only limitation upon us. We are also limited, or perhaps we could say we are afforded greater opportunities by our level of spiritual evolution and development. Obviously, the more enlightened we are, and the more developed we are, (and for elves and fae folk this also means our magical development) the wider the possibilities that are open to us. Enlightenment and magic well used are like money in the bank. The more evolved one is the richer they are in a spiritual sense and thus the greater one’s power to choose from a variety of possible life courses.

But here we run into another and a different set of limitations. Sometimes people choose lives that limit them, or burden them in certain ways for spiritual reasons. An enchanter may be born in a body that is not very good looking in order to develop the powers of enchantment of their personality. Bodhisattvas (Shining Ones) often accept limitations (the very fact that they are choosing to be born into a material body is one) out of compassion to help others. Some souls, out of love for others, take on the burdens, in part, of other people’s karma. They help them carry their baggage, so to speak, in order to uplift them. But mostly we gravitate toward those we love or with whom we have some karmic responsibility to work things out, which in the long run, always means developing the relationship between us.

And this brings us to two other very important points that bear upon one’s ability to choose one’s life before one is incarnated. The first of these is that most of us have yet to develop continuity of consciousness. Continuity of consciousness allows one to retain one’s consciousness and memories from lifetime to lifetime. If you can meditate so deeply that you sleep but remain conscious without thinking then you are there or approaching this state. Most of us, however, are nowhere near this level of development and many people only get bits and pieces of past life memories in their dreams rather than full continuity of consciousness, and our intuition may even fill in the blanks a bit to make a full storyline. However, even these fragments of our past life memories can be very useful to our self-awareness and give us inspiration to continue our meditations.

Without continuity of consciousness, the afterlife, or really the between life state, is rather like a dream. We are usually sort of semi-conscious in a dream but for the most part we are just experiencing the dream, watching it unfold before us and happen to us. If you can lucid dream then you are on the way toward continuity of consciousness. But for most of us, the between life is very dream-like and our choice of another life, another body and a new situation is rather instinctually based. Just as our dreams often reflect our unconscious and the things we are working out in our subconscious, so our choice for a next life is most frequently based upon instinctual desires and motivations. We go to what attracts us. There is actually very little conscious thought involved until indeed we evolve to the level of the Shining Ones.

The other consideration is this. Many folks select a life based upon their basest desires and the fulfillment of unconscious drives affected, quite deeply, by their karma, which is often to say their prejudices, hate, and fears from a previous life. But as we grow spiritually (yet still haven’t yet attained continuity of consciousness), we tend to gravitate toward those lives that we desire that will empower and uplift us. In other words, we naturally choose those lives that help us become who we truly wish to be.

In the long run, all limitations placed upon us in choosing another life, are our own and taking the opportunity to develop spiritually during the life we have presently chosen is key to our future lives. It is our own soulful spirit that guides us toward its fulfillment and that chooses a life most likely to lead toward enlightenment and elevation of our being. We are who we are because of who we are, which is to say who we choose to be. And these elves, choose the life elfin, because that’s who we are.

Faerie Unfolding: The Cosmic Expression of the Divine Magic is an advanced book of elven philosophy concerning The Silver Elves’ views on the nature of the Divine and its expression and manifestation into the world as seen from those cultures that are most connected to and historically expressive of Elven Culture. It is a further development from our other books, Through the Mists of Faerie, The Elven Way, and Liber Aelph and opens the adept elfin enchanter to new understandings of the Unfolding of Faerie and its magic into the world and our part, as elfin beings, in its expression. The Silver Elves illuminate this with a new way of understanding traditional lore and mythology, as well as modern stories of our faerie peoples. If you enjoyed reading our blog today about karma, then you will surely enjoy reading Creating Miracles in the Modern World on the way of elfin thaumaturgy and developing one’s own being and relationship with the Divine Magic, with the creation of wonders as an effect of that development.

Creating_miraclesBookcover
CREATING MIRACLES IN THE MODERN WORLD: The Way Of the Elfin Thaumaturge shows you that the more we develop our own inner divine nature, the more wondrous we become, and therefore in consequence the more we are able to recognize the subtle wonders of the world and the Universe. Some have written in popular books that there is no such thing as magic. We elves wonder then what they think miracles are if not magic.

Excerpt from Chapter 3:
“When we come to understand and experience that the true nature of the Universe and the Divine Magic is wondrous to its core we begin to release our fear of life (and death) and particularly our fear of failure, knowing that success and wonder are our destiny and the ultimate realization for all our hopes. We also come to understand that the Divine Magic does not judge us nor punish us. Karma is the response of our own souls and spirits seeking perfection. Karma is something that ultimately we are doing to ours’elves. It is an automatic function of the Universe, but it is our magic that has made it so for our magic always returns to us. “

How Often Do Elves Do Magic?

May 19, 2018
ZRubbingBelly
“. . . most of what the majority of folks would call or think of as magic,
the actual doing of rituals or casting of spells and so on,
we do on an impromptu and ad hoc basis. We perform
magic constantly in our daily life and when it needs to be done.”

2_3_7tinystar

How often do elves do magic? It depends upon the elves. In many ways, our magic is not done, so much as lived. We are magic, as the Elf Queen’s Daughters wrote years ago in their Elf Magic Mail. We exude magic. Enchantment and mystery radiate from us. And most of what the majority of folks would call or think of as magic, the actual doing of rituals or casting of spells and so on, we do on an impromptu and ad hoc basis. We perform magic constantly in our daily life and when it needs to be done. We send elementals off in this direction or that on this or that assignment.

Unlike most magical groups, we Silver Elves don’t have specific rituals for celebrating the Soltices and Equinoxes and so on. But, that is just us. Tië eldaliéva, the Elven Spiritual Path, as they call thems’elves, have taken Tolkien’s works on elves and created a ritual system pretty much attuned to what pagans are generally doing. We, on the other hand, just see what happens on a particular day and do what we feel is relevant. Of course, we know that there are some elves who hunger for more structure and as we say they can find it here or there, or really there but not here, or create it thems’elves, but they will be disappointed if they are looking to these elves for structure.

Our example is one of improvisation. This is why these elves in our The Book of Elven Magic, volume 1 and also volume 2, created rituals for those who were interested in ceremonies, including magic ceremonies for all the colors of the rainbow, as well as golden and silver magic ceremonies. So you can find within these two books magical ceremonies for purity, protection, healing, prosperity, creativity, opportunity, love, wisdom, harmony, as well as our inner magical secrets and the precepts of illuminated elven magicians. And while we give you these ceremonies and ritual guides, we emphasize that you should take them and make them your own, adapting them as wanted or needed. Unless, of course, you are very organizationally minded, which we are not, and then you could organize something and if we were around and the time seemed right to us we’d be glad to assist and attend with bells on our toes and smiles on our faces. We are not against people having organized magical rituals, we just aren’t inclined to organize it, and we certainly don’t intend to plan it, but if it happens that’s fine with us and we are always happy to add to it with our magical energy and Elven Blessings.

That doesn’t mean that we don’t have any magical rituals. We have been doing the I Ching everyday for the past 40+ years. So, we guess you could call that a ritual. We burn a bit of fire on our djinn’s lamp each day, feeding him for when he is needed magically. And Zardoa has a series of exercises and magical rituals, involving Reiki, Qigong and Elven Magic that he does every morning and evening sending out blessings to our kindred everywhere, and he has done so for awhile and will continue for however long. Until he stops, we guess. Occasionally, the whole process changes or mutates. Sometimes Zardoa adds something. Sometimes he alters what he is doing. The magic is ever transforming.

Silver Flame has her own magic rituals, as well, as she often uses Tarot cards or creates spells to help those we love and adore. She also has a practice she has been doing for years of doing magic in public places, sending out magical light from her eyes for Elven Blessings to those she feels need blessings, which is about everyone. We could do magic together on a daily basis, but that would require a bit of organization and that’s just unlikely to happen. In that way, we are typical elves of the Aquarian Age, each doing our own thing together. It is not that we never do magic in concert, for of course we do; and when we do it, it is both powerful and focused on the greater good of Elven Kind. As far as we are concerned, being together, and particularly being happy together, is our greatest magic, our great enchantment. And there are times when something comes up and needs to be dealt with and we put together this or that spell, or send off a spirit or two of the over five hundred that live with us to deal with it. But mostly we just leave them to enjoy thems’elves. No need for busy work here.

For the most part, we just are—we are elves together and that is an incredible magic and what else needs to be done really, except the dishes, which is really what ritual magic is about as far as we are concerned—doing dishes, which we do when they need to be done. Or sometimes, a little later, after they have piled up and there’s no room for cooking, which is another of our near daily rituals.

What is the Difference Between Elves and Witches?

October 7, 2017
Rocks_MagicTableColorBlog
“….while elves can be witches, not all elves are witches
and surely not all witches are elves.”

We Silver Elves and our sisters of the Elf Queen’s Daughters of old always felt very close to witches and in fact the Elf Queen’s Daughters declared on a number of occasions that they were elven witches and this was surely true. They felt a close association with the witchcraft movement of that time (mid 1970s) and were very close with Oberon Zell Ravenheart and Morning Glory of the Church of All Worlds. They were also friends with Alison Harlow of the Covenant of the Goddess, Zee Budapest of the Dianic Movement and other prominent witches of that period. In fact, all of the above were featured on various of the letters of the Elf Magic Mail, which the EQD sent out each week, three letters (the amount you could send for one postage stamp) for over a year.

We Silver Elves also knew all of the above individuals, although we only ever meet Zee Budapest in passing. On the other hand we had spent times in several of the homes of Oberon and Morning Glory and Alison Harlow and in fact our friend Valerie Voight wrote a wonderful letter of recommendation for us to join the Covenant of the Goddess but as it turned out we didn’t pursue that, our path leading us elsewhere.

But while elves generally feel a kinship with witches, we also feel a link to nearly all magical practitioners. There are elven wizards, conjurors, mages, curanderos (magical healers), sorcerers, shamans, diviners and magicians. But, of course, we are particularly enchanters (see our book The Keys to Elven Enchantment: Mastery of the Faerie Light Through the Portals of manifestation) for enchantment is the main and primary magic of the elven and always has been both in lore and tradition and in reality.

In later years (we’ve know them for over forty years), the founders of the Elf Queen’s Daughters and the inner sisterhood tended toward Sorcery in their magic interest and practice but we Silver Elves still pursue enchantment as our primary magic. But the choice of what magic to do, as with nearly everything else concerning elves, is up to the individual elf and hir own spirit and soul. If the elf lets hir natural attractions guide hir, she is bound to find in time the magic that is perfect for hir.

So while elves can be witches, not all elves are witches and surely not all witches are elves. We did meet a woman one time who came to us for guidance and lessons on the magical path, who claimed that she was of witchbreed, that is to say born to be a witch. But even if that is so, and we don’t doubt her, it is still a matter of choice. She pursued witchcraft because she loved and was attracted to it and choose to do so. Of course, one could argue that she was born to love witchcraft, that it is in her blood but still the choice of acting upon it is hers. Without that choice, without that decision to act, there is no true magic. If we are compelled to do magic and have no choice in the matter then we are not magicians but puppets to someone else’s magic. Choose wisely, beloved.

Lyndarys
The Elves of Lyndarys: A Magical Tale of Modern Faerie Folk

THE ELVES OF LYNDARYS by The Silver Elves is an often humorous novel about a young man’s struggle to mature and develop himself, his magic and his identity as he encounters and explores the modern pagan and otherkin communities and happens to encounter real elves, slowly coming to realize as he does so that he may not be a man at all but one of the elven. He is confronted through his journey not only by his own incredulity about his encounters and his inner conflict with what he has been taught to believe is reality and his actual experience but also by his personal prejudices and false assumptions. He comes to discover not only that the magic of Faerie is real but further that the Elven Way, as presented by his mentors, offers him a means of traveling the misty paths to magical and mystical enlightenment.
You may read more about this elven fantasy novel here, including some reviews and an excerpt. As one 5 star reviewer said:
“I will be recommending this book to my faerie/elven friends. We are always looking for stories that resonate with our own brand of reality and this book does that extremely well. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a modern day story of finding Elfland and all the magic and freedom that a place like this can have. Fans of The Lord of the Rings may also like this as it treats Tolkien’s Middle Earth as a real place and mentions its characters often.”

In Elfin Stay . . . . . .

In a darkened twilight world
The voice of spirit ancient hears
A laugh, a whisper, and a jest
That calls you to the final test.
Come within, it seems to say

And if you wish
We’ll show the way
And you at last
Can come and stay.

What is the Rainbow Magic that the Silver Elves Often Speak About?

October 1, 2017
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
“Rainbow Magic is really the magic of the rainbow people,
which is to say all the Elfae (elven faerie folk) and
others that work together to create a better situation for all of us.”

(Photo of magical double rainbow taken
by The Silver Elves in Makaha, Hawaii, near their Eald.)

According to a Hopi Prophecy, the Rainbow People will come and save the peoples of the Earth. The Earth, itself, according to the elves, doesn’t need saving. It is humanity and the other creatures upon it that are truly in danger from man-unkinds’ and others’ predations. The Earth will do quite well without humanity. But we elves and fae folk would rather not have it that way. We’d much rather harmonize with Nature and find/create a place where all peoples, human and otherwise, may be successful.

Thus Rainbow Magic is really the magic of the Rainbow People, which is to say all the Elfae (elven faerie folk) and others that work together to create a better situation for all of us. A true elven civilization upon the Earth. A place where everyone is free to express hir own s’elf and hir own nature as long as they don’t interfere with others. This idea of the Rainbow People, the combined elven and fae folk along with all others, is essentially an Aquarian notion and befits the Aquarian Age that is still in the process of birthing. It is, as we’ve said elsewhere, the essential idea that we can all do our own thing together. It puts forth the notion that win-win situations are not only possible but preferable and that we are able not only agree to disagree but we can also agree to let each other, as much as possible, pursue our own interests and development. There is room in Elfin for all sincere and willing folk that chose to be there.

These may seem in some ways like new ideas (some folks might even fluff them off as New Age, a term that is held in scorn by numerous folks, although these elves have never been precisely clear about why they do so, nor has anyone been able to tell us) but like the Hopi Prophecy and the notion of the Aquarian Age, these are actually something that have been handed down to us from the Ancestors. They foresaw our coming and rejoiced in the fact that it was so, as we rejoice and take heart in those who are yet to come.

Another way to look at this, however, is in the Seven Rays of Manifestation, which are each accorded a color associated with the Rainbow. The three primary colors being the first three rays and the blending of those colors (the secondary colors) being the last three rays and the fourth, by its nature, being a place of synthesis. For our own part we see the fourth ray as being of the tonal scale, thus white to black with all the grays in between, and thus also silver. We elves particularly associate with this ray, although any individual elf may have another ray as hir dominant propensity.

But this brings us back to the Rainbow Magic and the fact that there is a blending occurring. Elves, while we tend to be, first and foremost, enchanters, are also wizards, witches, sorcerers, magicians, conjurors and healers, herbalists, shamans, and every other sort of magician that uses hir magic to manifest Elfin in a bright and positive way that is fulfilling and healing for all involved. This is the Rainbow Magic, uniting our powers to create something truly wondrous for everyone, a world of shining radiance where love rules, magic illuminates, and we dance together in joy forever in a world brilliant with color.

September 28, 2017th: The Silver Elves are happy to introduce our newest book release:
Creating Miracles In the Modern World: The Way Of the Elfin Thaumaturge

Creating_miraclesBookcover

Creating Miracles In the Modern World is a book of Elfin Thaumaturgy, of miracle working and wonder creation, although for these elves we much prefer the idea of wonder working and creation to the idea of miracles. We love wonders. We love creating them; we love encountering them. This simple tome will explore the means by which we may do so. By which we mean not only creating the wondrous but also developing our ability to see and appreciate the wonders that are all around us. These things are tied together. The ability to see wonders promotes the creation of wonders.
Some have written in popular books that there is no such thing as magic. We wonder then what they think miracles are if not magic. Of course, what they mean is that human beings are incapable of magic and that only the Divine, which they perceive of in the form of the Christian demi-god and his retinue, can do magic, which is to say create miracles. We elves, naturally, disagree. We are elves; we are magic by our very natures. We don’t so much have to do magic; we are magic. We exude magic from our pores. Our every movement is magic. Magic is an effect of our being.
Creating Miracles In the Modern World shows you, whoever you are—whether you are an elf or Otherkin or consider yourself a member of normal humanity—that the more we develop our own inner divine nature, the more wondrous we become, and therefore in consequence the more we are able to recognize the subtle wonders of the world and the Universe. Thus, s’elf development is ever a part of the progress of the elfin magician who seeks, first and foremost, to master hir (his/her) own s’elf in order to have influence upon the world at large and not the other way around. For mastery of ones’elf (also called s’elf discipline) is, in fact, a most wondrous thing creating awe in those who observe it, inspiring them with possibility. And possibility, which is the true nature of the Divine Magic, is at the root of the miraculous and the wondrous. Every wondrous thing flows from its being that expresses itself through us. Thus it is that in the act of sub-creation and in some cases, perhaps, co-creation, we, like the Divine Magic itself, do manifest wonders.

Living in the World of the Unawakened

April 12, 2017

It often seems to the elven, and this is not without a good deal of justification, that one lives in a world surrounded by what are often called the unenlightened, the unawakened, the muggles (a la Harry Potter), the mundane or the normal folk (so called because that is how they like to think of themselves). But from an elven point of view, the whole world is full of magic and nearly everyone, with very few exceptions, are magicians of various sorts, although most don’t acknowledge that fact, or conceive things in that way.

This means that we are also surrounded by people who may call themselves men or woman but who are, in most cases, some variety of fae folk. They are orcs or goblins, grimlens, hobbits, pixies, brownies, faeries, elves and all manner of otherkin and hobs (halflings) of various kinds. Most, of course, don’t think of themselves in this way, which is in fact the point. They are unawakened to their true natures. But we elfin need not be. Even if they are unaware of who they are, we usually get some sense of their real being and may guide them, gently, toward that realization.

In doing so, we must be careful of not forcing our own opinions and aspirations upon them. Our task is to guide them to their own realization. It is not our place to slap them awake (as much as that may seem necessary or justified) but to awaken them gently with the song of Elfin.

You are welcome to join us on our Silver Elves website and also to read some sample writing from our 40+ books on magic and enchantment and the elven way.

If you are dealing with the unenlightened or unawakened we highly suggest that you enjoy reading What An Elf Would Do.

Here is another question we are often asked: How do I find new elf friends?

Finding Elf Friends

Most elves, by our natures, are enchanters and surely enchantment is the most elven of the magical arts, which doesn’t mean that we don’t explore or study or use other of the Arts Magical but that enchantment is what we are historically most associated with and is the magic that is most in keeping with our own dispositions in the majority of cases.

We ever seek to be friends/elf friends with everyone we encounter, although, it is true that not everyone is open to this, and certainly most are not immediately open. In that sense, we are like the ocean slowly weaving down cliffs of their suspicion and reluctance or like ivy we grow on people.

Because of this and because of our elf sight, our ability (‘Verfaji’ — see our book on the language of the Silver Elves, Arvyndase) not only to see magic that others do not see but also to see an indication of who is elvish and what their elvish nature may be, we relate to people based not only on who they are but who they are destined to be. We relate to their potential, ever seeking to nurture the best that is in them. Thus we make friends with all sorts of folks, although we, like most elven, wish there were more folks who were aware and awakened to the point that they could share this path with us with the same relish we do. Still, we find gnomes and faeries, pixies, leprechauns and all manner of other folk and even if they are not entirely aware of their own natures, we have some inner spiritual understanding of what they may become. We interact with them as they are without making any demands upon them to be otherwise while nurturing what they will in time surely become.

From the Major Powers:

Creation, The Magic

TAROT: MAGICIAN

SYMBOL: THE LINE

THE MAGICAL TOOL: WAND

This is the power of Creation and creativity. With this power one can create one’s own world, realm, eald, etc. Unlike the first power, which is essentially effortless and accepting, this second power strives to mold the world, or really a part of the world, by its own vision. There is a danger here that one may attempt to compel their vision upon others and force them to yield to one’s will. This, however, is a violation of the basic principles of elfin magic and a corruption of this power, which functions not through force and coercion, but by attraction and enthusiasm.

Fantasy writers who create worlds so vivid that hordes of fans hunger to enter into them give a good example of this power to us. Tolkien’s works stand as a testament to this power. This power is also true of those who founded religions, kingdoms, fashion and art styles, etc. However, if one proceeds as if their way is the only way, the one true and right way to be, then they have lost their way and are wandering toward the dark side.

The true power of creation stands as a unique and individual manifestation, among other unique and individual forms and beings. It is a star among a Universe of Stars. It is ever a pioneer, and if others follow the trail it has blazed, it does not care, for it has already moved on.

Create your own Eald, dear elfin, and invite your co-creators to join you in the weaving of a magic that makes a better world for all of us.

EVOCATION:

I summon forth the powers of Creation

I make my world anew by the power of my vision

Talents, skills, and powers come to me seeking expression

I send them forth to make the world more loving, kind, and beautiful

I send them forth to make life more exciting, adventurous, and fulfilling

I send them forth to express thems’elves perfectly

Great artists each in their chosen field.

INVOCATION:

I open myself to the powers of creativity

That I may express mys’elf truly in my own way

Creating wonders of magic and beauty in my own style

Filled with energy and power I set forth

Renewed, and revived, and ready to give to the world

The treasures that I bear within me.

ENCHANTMENT:

The powers of creation are mine

The world responds like clay

And in the course of time

We see the coming day

Awakens now renewed

Our efforts have been true

And the magic we have brewed

Will guide us on our way.

From the Minor Powers:

WATER: SUIT OF CUPS

Love—Minor

TAROT: ACE OF CUPS

THE SYMBOL: THE HEART

THE MAGICAL TOOL: CHARM BRACELET

This is the root power of all relationships, whether it be family, romantic, friendship, acquaintance, legal, business or any other. They all come under the influence of this power. Being under the element/state of water/liquidity, this power is very fluid in nature and extremely adaptable, yet it retains its essential nature in its largest and most microscopic forms. It is also very feeling oriented and its essence is based upon feeling rather than mental or even spiritual attraction. Thus it is linked to both intuition and instinct, but primarily to the feeling of attraction or repulsion that draws us to or inclines us to avoid certain individuals.

For any relationship you wish to develop, improve or from which you wish to depart, this power can be of help. It is also a supplementary power to all the other fluid powers. To invoke this power is to develop your own ability in creating successful relationships, enhancing the power of your personality, giving it weight and power.

The evocation of this power brings the personal touch and an inner sense of connectedness to even the most formal associations. If one feels they are faced with a mindless and callous bureaucracy, the conjuration of this energy will arouse a sense of sympathy and relatedness in those with whom one must interact, helping to bring the element of the human or humane/elven into an otherwise cold and uncaring association. It awakens the feeling in people, helps remind them that they are not robots, but feeling human beings/spirits, which it to say spiritual beings.

EVOCATION:

I treat all I meet with loving kindness

With gentle concern, with reassuring comfort

Each relationship bearing the potentiality for friendship

For romance, or for a delighted flirtation

Each an opportunity to spread love into the world

To make the world a better place

A more loving place

A place where love can prosper

In all its forms and variations.

INVOCATION:

I draw in the power of love

So I may see the potential for love in all situations and circumstances

So I may be able to love in all situations and circumstances

So love will fill my soul and exude from my body

As an aura of energy

Creating and atmosphere of love

Wherever I go.

ENCHANTMENT:

Love comes to me today

Love comes in every way

Love is the very source

Love is the way, the course

Love is the action that I take

Love is the way for its own sake

Love is the purpose

And the meaning, too

Love is the goal for all I do.

The Voice of Faerie: Making Any Tarot Deck Into an Elven Oracle

September 16, 2013

We are very excited…

Dearest Kin … to have recently published our second book on tarot. Our first book, “The Elven Book of Powers” is a guide to using the tarot of magical visualization and wish fulfillment, with evocations, invocations and rhyming spells for each card in a traditional tarot deck. Our newest book, “The Voice of Faerie“, is a reference guide for reading the tarot. It is a Living Book (to be consulted over and over in time) designed to be used in concert with any tarot deck so that the meaning of the cards can be easily accessible to anyone interested in communicating with the elven and faerie spirits of other realms and dimensions.

Sample From the Major Arcana:

0. Awakening: Something Magic This Way Comes, Wicked’s Had Its Way Too Long

TAROT: THE MAGICIAN

Something Magic This Way Comes

Something Magic This Way Comes is a card of blessing and good luck. An unexpected turn of affairs brings new magic into your life, refreshing and revitalizing you. Other signs will confirm this soon.
Greet this change of circumstances with optimism and enthusiasm, thus making the most of it. Something Magic This Way Comes is a confirmation of the power of the good and the beautiful to renew itself. It is a response from Faerie to the magic you have already done and that is now coming to fruition.
However, Something Magic This Way Comes also implies that we must wait for the magic to arrive. It is coming but it hasn’t come yet. It’s on its way but still we must await it with patience as well as expectation.
This card holds the promise therefore of good to come, of the triumph of good over evil, of the return of health and healing after illness, or the beginnings of understanding after estrangement and clarity in the wake of confusion.
The magic time is coming. Have faith; trust in its arrival. Know that the Dawn will disperse the darkness, that Spring will chase away winter’s chill, bringing new growth and renewal.

Visualization:

The feeling has been growing for weeks now and each day it gets stronger. Something is about to happen. Something special. Something Magic This Way Comes.
You tingle inside. Power surges through your body. You feel like you can hardly contain it and you are alive with expectancy. Something comes. Something magic. You can feel it in the wind. The trees whisper about it. The birds call to you, telling you it’s coming. “It’s coming. It’s coming,” they say.
Your power is calling you. It’s as though someone suddenly plugged you into a wall socket. The electricity streams through your body. You’re alive, alive, alive with the magic, with the power, with the possibility.

The Magic:

Stop and relax a moment. Where is the magic? Is the power building or waning? Can you feel it? Don’t try to force anything. Just feel the energy. Note where it is. Check it daily. Make yours’elf ready.

(An Alternate Interpretation)
Wicked’s Had Its Way Too Long

Wicked’s Had Its Way Too Long tells us that sooner or later the Law of Karma is fulfilled in its exacting fashion. Those that have stood against the light fall and the good prevails once again. Each receives hir (his/her) just and exact due as hir magic is fulfilled.
This is the time of struggle, however. Evil will not give up on its own volition. We must act against it with all our power bringing the weight of our Elven magic to bear, but a direct confrontation with evil is to be avoided if at all possible because we wind up entangled in conflict and destruction. We, and many innocent bystanders, are often harmed by this conflict. Direct confrontation, therefore, is a last resort. The best defense again evil is to make energetic progress toward the realization of our positive dreams and visions. By creating our eald, our bit of Faerie, in the world, by putting all our energy toward creating a better world, we undermine the power of the Wicked, which depends upon decay and dissatisfaction to gain its ends. It is parasitic by nature and
cannot endure on its own. Creating our own realm of Elfin is like turning on a light in a dark room.
By pursuing fairness and justice for all, we remove the sources of discontent upon which evil thrives and that it ever endeavors to create in order to bring imbalance to the world.
However, sometimes evil must be faced directly and so this is a card of choice. If you receive this card you must decide your best course in dealing with wickedness in this situation. Do you act toward the good, act against evil or wait for things to change on their own?

Something Magic This Way Comes and Wicked’s Had Its Way Too Long are paired, although, one follows the other. This indicates that after obtaining magical power and influence, one is then faced with a choice concerning what to do with that power. What will you do with the power you gain?

Visualization:

It has become clear to you that there are those who are deliberately seeking to enslave the world for their own profit and gratification. It is also evident to you, having the magical power that you do, that you have a responsibility to use your powers to remove these people from the positions of power from whence they carry out their wicked aims.
The question is: what’s the best way to do this? Should you use your powers to create good and ignore those others, trusting in time and karma to deal with them? Or do you think that the situation demands that you take measures to bind their evil and obstruct their path? Can you do both?

The Magic:
Hold a magic circle and do a binding. Resist wickedness in your own life and you will have the power to bind it on the nether planes.

Finding our own magic

September 11, 2009

Blessings9 copy2

In Blavatsky’s Isis Unveiled, vol. 2…
Dearest Beloved,
… she presents us with massive evidence that nearly all the major religions, that is Christian, Judeo-Hebraic, Moslem, Egyptian, Caldean, etc. originated from the Hindu and Pre-Buddhic practices and texts of ancient India. On the other hand, if you read Max Freedom Long’s books on Polynesian magic and the Huna (secret) practices of the Kahunas of Hawaii, he informs us that their magic is, as far as he can tell, in its purist form, pre-religious and that they, the Polynesians, originated from India and islands near there and left as the Aryan and other invaders, the originators of religion, arrived.
(Just an aside here, but we used to know a French magician named Roland who would write us and send us these wonderful posters he created about magic (all written in French, of course), when we were part of the Elf Queen’s Daughters in the 70s. He came to visit us one time for about a week when we lived in Southern Illinois where we called ours’elves the Elves of the Southern Woodlands, and we found it interesting that he pronounced Isis, not Ice –ees, but Is Is. Contemplate that a moment!
But this isn’t primarily about Blavatsky’s theory that all religion stems from India, nor Long’s that we can find magic in its purest form from studying the Kahunas, though we for our part have neither reason nor facts to question their theories. This is about how we elves, who have been so far and long divorced from our culture in so many ways, and raised quite often, though not always and not entirely, among the normal folk, come to understand what is Elfin/Faerie magic and how it may differ, if it does, from various other magics that are in use today and in the past.
Surely we can glean some things, as we ever tend to do, some hints, from good fiction about we elfin folk and our magics. And surely, at its heart all magic stems from the same source, which is to say The Divine Magic, the infinite potentiality that is, was and ever will be, from which all things are created. Religions anthropomorphize this energy into Gods and Goddess but all such Deities, to the elfin mind, are mere demi-gods, individualize interpretations of the truth that is both universal and undifferentiated.
We can certainly, and these elves do, study the various books and systems of magic that are available in metaphysical bookstore and even on the internet. Taught among the Elf Queen’s Daughters (who also taught us elfin witchcraft, sorcery and enchantment among other things) to use the I Ching, these elves consult this oracle every day and have been doing so since 1975. We also study books and have explored the use of various forms of magic, including Taoist, Celtic, Western Ceremonial, Tibetan and others, picking eclectically from each according to what works and what appeals to our hearts and souls.
Naturally, we have explored many, but not all, the books about faerie magic. Alas, most of these seem to be for witches and others who wish to use the faeries to help them with their magics. There is nothing wrong with that, if done rightly. But, except for our own books (which you can check out here on our website), we’ve encountered no books that view elfin magic from the inside, that is, how we elves do our magics, which is why, in part, that we have created our own books, many of them elfin versions of other systems that we have known, used and loved.
Which brings us back to Max Freedom Long. For we could do far worse than study the most original forms of shamanic practice, which Fraser, in the Introduction to the Golden Bough, hypothesizes was the source prior to, and in a sense, inspirational for both religion and science. If we are indeed in some senses the Elder Race then we must look back to the earliest manifestation of civilization and magic and these are to be found among the Kahunas of Hawaii, the aboriginal shamans of Australia, the indigenous shamans of Siberia (from whom the name shaman originates) and the Amazon and others, filtering what we learn through our own hearts, déjà vu like memories (telpareon – the far memory of the elves) and our own experiences.
Of course, these elves count ours’elves lucky. We were trained in magic by other elves and it is true that there is a vibrational transference of energy (similar perhaps to that described between a guru and his student in yogic lore) that is shared among the elfin that cannot be learned from books or received from others. But this is not something we do intentionally, exactly, but something that just happens among us when the time is right. Perhaps indeed, or really, without question, the best way to learn elfin magic is to be with other elves, but in the meantime, we can each of us glean what we can from other systems all of which ultimately had their source (diluted though they are) among the elfin.
