ELFAE TRIBES: The Peoples of Faerie by The Silver Elves is our fourth book  in the series of elf, faerie, fae and otherkin tribes. Our first book is composed strictly of Elf tribes; the second book in the series describes Faerie, Fae and Otherkin tribes; the third book is comprised of Elves, Faerie, Fae, Otherkin, Otherworldly, and miscellaneous assorted fae tribes. Elfae Tribes includes a total of 115 tribes of elves, faerie, fae and otherkin, all of which are newly published and are not found in the first three volumes in this series.

In these modern times we now abide, it is most important that the elves, faerie, fae and otherkin have a strong magical narrative of their own in a world that often likes to tell us who we are and who we are not, and mostly quite inaccurately so. It is our hope that in reading the magical narratives contained in Elfae Tribes that you will be inspired, our kindred brothers and sisters, to begin if you have not already done so to create your own narrative or add to what you already remember and intuit.

You will find as you read through the many narratives in this book that the many tribes of the elfin, faerie, fae, and otherkin are quite varied in their history, spiritual practices, spell crafting, magic, healing abilities and powers, lifestyle, art, ancient ways, governance, love of nature, relationship to mankind, relationship to specific trees and other plants, preferences, symbols and skills.

Included in the first part of Elfae Tribes are 41 tribes of elfin folk in the deep forests among the oaks, birch, and oak trees; and some in forests and woodlands along rivers or lakes or near the ocean. Also, in this section there are narratives of forest traveling elves, of elves living on the forest edge, and elves living high in the forested mountains. There are also included some elven tribes in mountain valleys and within mountain caves, as well as some coastal elves and river elves. And included in the second part of the book are 24 tribes of faerie, fae and mixtures of elfae who abide in the desert lands; are travelers or troopers; are of the rivers or live in woodlands near the rivers; are of the deep forests; of the forest lakes; and of the forests near the oceans. Some other tribes are island forest folk; are those traveling through the forests; are of the high mountain areas or mountain valleys; are of the lakes or live near waterfalls or springs; and some are of the ocean caves. And in the third part of the book are tribes of Valkayrie, Leprechauns, Were-wolves, Dragons, Pixies, Phookas, Shapeshifters, Djinn, Fauns, Dwarves, Sprites, Landvaettir or Earth Spirit Fae, Shining Ones, Gnomes and Brownies, Nymphs and Nyms, the Slaugh Folk, Goblins, Will O Wisps, Boggart Folk, Centaurs, Kitsune Changelings, Phoenix Folk, Sylphs, Silkies, and Banshees or Ban Sidhe.

We Silver Elves, over the last 30 years or so, have given out over 6,000 elf names in our magical elven language Arvyndase to individuals who requested them. And for years, many of the individuals who requested an elf name would also write to us and say that they felt that they were faerie, fae or other but didn’t know any more about their particular tribe. And for years, we told them that they should trust their imaginations and intuitions. And while that is still very good advice we realized in time that this was not any easy thing to do for many of these kindred of ours who were often newly awakened and needed a bit of guidance upon the path.

In response to this, we created the Elf, Faerie, and Otherkin Survey (see our The Silver Elves website to participate), as a means of eliciting the information that we needed from these individuals so we might create a narrative for each of them about their own tribe or clan of Elves, Fae or Others that was germane to them and as close as we could get based upon their responses and our own intuition.

The magical narratives we created and that compose this book are based upon the memories or intuitions and thus the responses that we were given to the survey (since April 2020) about those of elfin, faerie, fae, otherkin and otherworldly nature. We would like to thank all those who participated in this survey and we truly loved their creative responses. Of course, we used our own imagination and intuition in putting their replies into a consistent whole, which was often a challenge but a challenge we very much enjoyed.

Sample Narratives from Elfae Tribes:
Here for you to enjoy reading are a few examples from the 115 kin type narratives found in Elves, Faeries, Fae and Otherkin Tribes.

Excerpts from Section One: Elf Tribes

The Ålånyn (pronounced: ah – lahn – nin) band of the Meynmi (me – in – my) tribe are elven folk that can usually be located living near the forest edge, often by a running stream or babbling brook (they love waterfalls, even small ones) and like to be close to a town or city where they can go to barter, trade or get supplies that aren’t available in their forest, as well as to spread their magic and share their creativity among modern folk.

Socially, the Meynmi peoples don’t seem to have much in the way of government nor do they have any authorities. They have a basic principle of treating all their people with mutual respect and consider all beings to be inherently equals. They live together in peace, often in small groups, pursuing their own creative interests and their chief magics seem to be through the evocation of Grammarye or writing and creating music. Therefore, we might call them Bardic Elves. And this emphasis on music particularly results in them calling thems’elves bands rather than clans. Like many artistic folk, they are often alone or in their small bands intent upon their individual or group creations and come together as a people mostly to perform or share their works.

While they don’t have a governmental organization, the Meynmi do have an escutcheon that has the figure of the Earth upon a light blue background with a dark blue dragon flying above it. The whole thing is outlined in silver and there is a very faint suggestion of what looks like the yin yang symbol overlaid upon the Earth.

These elves often have small gardens where they grow cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, Savoy cabbage, and gai lan, kohirabi and other vegetables, which not only provides much of their diet but which they are able to sell or trade at local farmer’s markets to support thems’elves.

They are also known to be dedicated meditators, practitioners of yoga in its various forms and overall lead an exemplary and healthy lifestyle dedicated toward their own and others enlightenment and evolutionary development. For these elfae do not believe in gods, per se, but rather see the Divine Magic as a potential that lives within each and every being and can be realized through personal efforts to make ours’elves better so we may eventually evolve into the realms of the Shining Ones, who are those elfin folk that came before us and have succeeded in rising to the more elevated and subtle dimensions of Life. In living their lives as they do, they are following the example of the Shining Ones, those exulted elfin beings.

So, it is that these elves seek to aid Mankind and all folk as best they are able, encouraging them toward better lives, leading by example and empowering all those who put effort toward improving their selves and their lives.

According to the Meynmi peoples, they originally came to the Earth as spirits from the Pleiades system and they feel a particular association with Alcyone, known scientifically as Eta Tauri or Eta Tau, which is one of the seven sisters of the Pleiades. It is the brightest star in that system and they feel it guides them throughout their lives providing them with magic and energy. This is their lucky star. Their individual elven star.

While the Meynmi peoples don’t have treasures overall as a people, their individual members do create personal amulets, talismans and other objects of magic that they wear or carry around with them or keep in their homes and gardens radiating love and light into the world.

Also, their communities are usually filled with music wafting through the air from their own playing, practice and creative efforts. But there are also chimes here and there on the outside of their homes and aeolian harps positioned in many of the trees that surround them. As the Meynmi say, The Music Never Stops.

The Udyrdyn (pronounced: you – der – den) tribe of the Alanåter (a – lay – nah – tier) nation are sea elves who are closely related to the merfolk of sea and land, which is to say of springs, ponds, lakes and so forth. The Alanåter live on floating islands that they construct that are, like an iceberg, larger beneath the surface than above. There principle devotion is as healers and they use the waters of the ocean in their healing work but they also utilize it in their divinations and vision questing and other magics, to calm or rouse the sea and so forth. Their healing involves their community, of course, but also they seek to heal the oceans and waterways of the world as well. Alas, with the devotion of Mankind toward polluting everything, these sea elf healers certainly have their work cut out for them.

They avoid Mankind for the most part and in keeping with this they call forth their water witchery to create cloud banks around them that look a good deal like a potential sea storm or hurricane that the ships of Mankind wisely tend to avoid or from which they flee as quickly as they can. However, most of the time, like a hurricane, the center of the storm is quite calm as the Alanåter sea elves go about their business undisturbed by the storm or intrusion by Mankind and those Unseelie folk who often pass among mankind.

Theirs is a society run on consensus and they come together to discuss all things related to their people overall. Those who may disagree are always able to sail forth in another direction for there is a fleet of small ships that swarm around their floating villages. But since healing is the main avocation of most of their people, they seldom disagree about anything. As the Alanåter say, Life at sea is too pleasant to disagree.

As we said, they are quite close to the merfolk and if you could see their world you would likely view mermaids lounging on their decks, and selkies and sea sprites and all manner of ocean folk that they enjoy being with hanging around with them. These folk often provide them with various items from the bottom of the sea while the dolphins and porpoises serve as scouts for them, bringing them news from the vast realms of the oceans around the world.

While the Alanåter peoples believe in gods, as a general principle, and they are surely a polytheistic folk, they do not tend to anthropomorphize these deities. Rather, they view the ocean as a god and all the various rivers and streams, lakes and ponds as being deities of various levels and degrees of power. They consider the sun as being divine, as is the moon and the planets and they see them as all spirit beings in their own right who just happen to not be humanoid in form. The Alanåter’s relationship to these beings, while respectful of their great powers, is really more practical than worshipful. They know the seas have moods, for instance, and they are very watchful and sensitive to these.

The Alanåter elves have magical treasures but most of these are so powerful that they are kept in a sort of lending library where one has to earn their library card and can check out certain powerful magical items for a delegated period of time. The higher one’s clearance, so to speak, which is to say depending upon the extent of one’s power, one’s maturity and competence with magic, the more powerful the items that one can check out. The librarians are called the Treasure Keepers or sometimes the Keepers of the Sacred Treasures if one wished to be more formal about it, but most of these elfae simply call them The Keepers.

These sea elves do sometimes get tattoos but these tattoos, like most of their culture, revolves around their healing arts. Sometimes their tattoos are used to heal particular diseases and many are obtained as a means of warding off various illnesses. In that way, their tattoos are the same for them that vaccines would be for the mass of humanity. But there are also tattoos that indicate one’s level of development and power as a healer and one’s specialty, unless one is a general practitioner and even that has its own tattoo.

Excerpts from Section Two: Faeries and Fae Tribes

The Elilylae (pronounced e – lie – lil [as in lily] – lay) faeries of the Ynmynori (N – men – nor – rye) are traveling folk who journey from one region to another, but generally avoid any large cities and only enter them if absolutely necessary. Sometimes, they may settle for a while in a forest or even desert area, but they seldom stay more than a season or two, the call to wander is strong among them. Or, as we might say in modern times, the wanderlust is strong among them. Go with the lust!

They recognize the great Faerie Queen, often called Titania, as their monarch, but she doesn’t actually rule over them. They merely call her their queen, but really these faeries are quite s’elf ruled and determine the direct of their lives their own s’elves. And they are, even among thems’elves, a very independent lot.

The Ynmynori do have a flag, however, which is rather like the Japanese flag, except instead of a red sun on a white background it is a red sun or ball if you will, upon a black field. There are also a number of clans among the Ynmynori, the Elilylae being only one of them and is often known as the wolf clan. There is also a crow/raven clan and a bee clan. The bee folk carry bee hives wherever they journey and when they meet the other tribes they trade their honey for other goods. The Elilylae or wolf clan are often scouts, venturing out in different directions in smaller packs and then returning to join together and share what they have discovered. While the crows and raven clan are collectors of various objects, which they then trade to the others. The wolf clan, for their part, trade in the knowledge they have gained in their explorations. They are often map makers and leave secret faerie symbols (like the Hobos of old and the Romany) that tell others of their kind whether a place is inclined to be kindly or not or point in the right direction to travel to find this, that or the other thing.

It is said that the Ynmynori originally traveled to the Earth from Aldebaran, which is in the constellation of Taurus, and is a large red fiery ball, and thus some say that their flag represents Aldebaran in the night sky. The name Aldebaran comes from Arabic and means the Follower because it appears to follow the Pleiades cluster around, and it was considered one of the four royal stars by the ancient Persians. The Ynmynori, however, call Aldebaran the Wanderer rather than the Follower and believe it wanders after the great Faerie Queen as she travels on her own peregrinations or Faerie Rade.

The Ynmynori often wear talismans of crescent moons or pentacles, since they are a very witchy folk and honor all the witch goddesses, especially Hecate, who was said to be the goddess of boundaries, crossroads, witchcraft, and ghosts, or we might say, the ancestors. For they feel that those who have passed over to the other side, into the Twilight, as they say, still abide with them and travel with them and they often experience encounters with specters and other ghostly spirits that guide them in their lives and their journeys.

In regard to Mankind and the normal folk, the Ynmynori are very kindly and will do what they can to help and enlighten them when and where possible. Still, they tend to keep to thems’elves mostly and will only interact with the normal folk if they are approached for help and advice and will only continue to help them if those who approach them actually seem to heed their counsel, which, let’s face it, is seldom.

The Ynmynori are also very fond of crystals and minerals of all sorts, and you may find lots of crystals in their various wagons and vehicles, that they use, like Romany, in their travels. It should be noted that their wagons and so forth are often covered in moss, lichens, ivy and sometimes ferns growing in boxes along their sides. Due to this, when they park in a forest they are nearly invisible.

The Fiforae (pronounced: fie – for – ray) clan of the Ranånåli (ray – nah – nah – lie) tribe are lake dwelling faeries, often referred to as the Ladies of the Lake or People of the Lake who spend much of their time in isolation from Mankind and the normal folk around them, and sometimes, because of a tendency toward introversion, a preference to be alone even among their own people. Their lakes and ponds are often surrounded by Hawthorn trees, long known to be sacred to the fae folk, and wild roses as well. Many folk hang ribbons and wishes written on pieces of paper and other gifts for the Fair Folk upon Hawthorn trees, although other trees as used as well. Trees so bedecked are often referred to as Faerie trees.

The symbol of the Ranånåli faeries is a silver circle. One may see this sometimes on their banners that display a simple silver circle in the midst of a white background. But they also often wear silver bracelets, silver torcs and silver arm bands, and jewelry that features a silver circle upon it. Their Queen is known to wear a silver circlet as a crown with rose colored tourmaline as its head piece. She is sometimes described as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Tourmaline is said to have great healing power as well as the ability to soothe the hearts and souls of those who come in contact with it and their Queen is said to have a very soothing presence and all who meet her feel better for doing so.

The Ranånåli sometimes call thems’elves the Servants of Arianrhod from Welsh mythology and honor her and her brother Gwydion. The name Arianrhod is said to mean Silver Wheel and thus the silver circle that they are fond up is, at least in part, linked to their devotion to Arianrhod.

The Ranånåli are said to have in their keeping and care the Bowl of Arianrhod and the Sword of Gwydion, which was named Dyrnwyn. These are, of course, both enchanted objects of great power. While the sword of Gwydion clearly has the power to take life, particularly from those who weave dark sorceries, the bowl of Arianrhod is rumored to contain water that gives life and brings the dead back into the material world, while Arianrhod hers’elf determines their fate in their coming life according to their karma from their previous life and deeds. Therefore, the Ranånåli are sometimes called Those Who Stand Between Life and Death and they are noted for helping those who are in transition between lives (see our book Beyond Death: The Elfin Book of the Dead, Ascending towards the Faerie Realms through Progressive Incarnations). But some of them are also famous for taking care of the young and newly born and guiding them toward positive habits in their early lives.

In regard to Mankind, the Ranånåli are of a mixed disposition. They don’t like being around Men. Men are so serious about themselves and boring after all. And yet, at the same time, the Ranånåli will send healing energy to certain men or women whom they feel are worthy of their energy. They see this as the only true way to heal Mankind and the world and to guide Mankind back to a path of harmony with Nature both within himself and without, which will bring true healing to the world.

Besides being healers and quite ardent devotees of the accumulation of knowledge, for learning is very important to these folk, the Ranånåli are naturally, as one might suspect with their preference for living near or on lakes, ponds and other large bodies of water, water witches. They use the latent powers of water and its channeling powers to heighten their own faerie powers, as well as broadcast their own spells afar linking them to the connections that water has in a particular area and throughout the globe.

One of the most beloved tales told by these faerie folk is of a faerie who gave up her wings in order to save her home and her people. Thus, many of the Ranånåli have also relinquished their wings in order to live in the modern world and carry on their race into the future. They know that their wings still exist in their energetic and light bodies and they also are certain that their wings are now carried as sub-dominant traits in their genetic bodies and someday, when Men are less prejudiced and more enlightened, they will sprout their wings again and flit about the skies like Tinkerbell, who is, by the way, beloved to them and especially to their children, just as Peter Pan, and in modern times Link from the Zelda games, is beloved to most elven folk and our young.

Excerpts from Section Three: Otherkin [and Otherworldly] Tribes

The Ofori (pronounced: oh – for – rye) clan of the Froåtåer (fro – ah – tah – ear) tribe are Landvaettir or Earth spirit elfae who live in the deep temperate forests usually often in apple groves that they plant for their own delight and consumption and which they share, through trade and barter, with other elfae about them. It is said that their apples are particular delicious and magical.

The Froåtåer used to love to play and interact with the ancient Celtic and Viking folk and, in modern times, still do as much as they can. However, although they are Earth spirits, the Froåtåer are frequently pale in complexion, instead of russet or earth colored, and seem like ghosts flitting through the forest to those who don’t know them and happen to accidentally spy them from a distance.

These elfae have a democratic society, with elected officials who oversee the administration of everything that needs to be decided concerning their people overall. However, they have been together and functioning as a unit for so long that there really isn’t that much to decide. On the other hand, all their decisions include an understanding of what is best for them and for Nature overall. For harmony with Nature is very important to these elfae, as it is to most modern otherkin folk and thus they are often at odds with the rather predatory behavior that is common in the modern consumer societies that seek to use Nature and seem to have little understanding of the necessity for sustainability for a truly successful culture and future.

The flag of the Froåtåer has a purple background with a wolf baying at the full moon in the center and a fiery axe on either side of it. Around the border of the flag are elven runes formed in a Celtic knot pattern that looks like ivy growing. The runes say, Every Fox With Cunning Yields Until His Moment Comes.

Spiritually, due to their long association with the Celts and the Viking folk, the Froåtåer interact with the gods and goddess of those cultures, often bringing messages from those deities to the Celtic and Viking folk of olden times. Sometimes, the Froåtåer cast the runes or scry upon the waters, or sometimes they would read the leaves as they fall, or the wind as it stirs the tree branches to arrive at an oracle to guide those folk. The Celtic and Viking, for their own part, would look upon the Froåtåer, as their descendants often still do, as mysterious folk who are interesting to know but somewhat hard to understand yet wise in their knowledge of Nature and the gods. When we say that the Celts and Vikings found the Froåtåer hard to understand we are not indicating what they say, of course, but what they actually mean when they say it. But then oracles are often delivered in riddles.

These landvaettir have always sought to help mankind and the normal folk, overall, as best they may. Although Men, let’s face it, are not always open to help and guidance. Some of them seem to think that they already know everything worth knowing, but then compared to the Froåtåer and the elfae in general, who are ancient spirits, men are rather like children or teenagers. So, a certain resistance to enlightenment, however well meant when offered, is to be expected. As the Froåtåer say, “You can’t expect an ass to run as fast as a horse.”

While the Froåtåer consider most of the ancient magical treasures of the Tuathe de Danaan as being their own, their most important treasure is really the Golden Torc (torq or torque) of Family, which represents their people overall and their emphasis on the importance of family for a torc is made of banded strands, twisted together with an opening at one end that symbolizes that the family is united, strong but also open and free.

It is said that as long as the Froåtåer have this Torc, which their chosen leader wears on formal occasions, their people will remain strong and united and whatever land that they abide in shall be blessed and prosper due to their presence.

The Notrådyn (pronounced: no – trah – den) clan of the Lilalor (lie – lay – lore) tribe are gnomish folk who generally can be found living within the forest near its borders, usually around a lake or large pond and most often not far from a local town or city. Note, however, when we call them gnomes we use this term in the old sense of wise elvish folk and not in the more modern depiction of slightly overweight but pleasant beings with conical hats that you find on people’s lawns from time to time. In fact, Tolkien first called the people that he would later say are elves as gnomes in his book The Fall of Gondolin. Thus, while we call these folks gnomes, one could also call them elves and still be accurate and true in doing so. Also, these folks commonly have tattoos or piercings, which is not something you’re likely to see in most modern depictions of gnomish folk.

The Queen of the Lilalor is seen as the Mother of her people, for she nurtures and encourages each and every one of them. They are an independent lot though and inclined to be loners at times, either holed up in their homes working on their various projects or wandering off into the world on their own to have a peek, as they say. And, of course, groups of them sometimes venture into the nearby towns to observe the ways of Men or sometimes to barter or buy what they may need or desire. They find Mankind strange, yet somehow fascinating, although also potentially dangerous, so the Lilalor seldom reveal their true natures as elfin beings and pass through the world unseen and unobserved.

These gnomes do have a flag that displays three silver elven stars arranged in the form of an upward pointing triangle upon a green background. This represents the Lilalor peoples overall. While the Notrådyn clan has its own banner with a reddish orange oak leaf in its center upon a brown background with black fringe along the border.

Their spiritual beliefs seemed to be based upon a love of Nature overall. They see Nature as an expression of the Divine Magic that exists in all things and which animates the Universe. They don’t really have any gods that they interact with or care about. Some of them believe in their existence and some don’t but most of them just don’t care one way or another. They feel that if there were gods they wouldn’t have to appeal to them, the gods would come looking for them if they were interested and thus far they haven’t bothered to do so.

These elfae folk often wear brown attire (like the brownies, to whom they are also related) though frequently with black headwear or hoodies. Because of this some people have jokingly referred to them as the racoon people but the Lilalor don’t mind for they know the racoons to be very smart individuals who wash their hands, have opposable thumbs and can move through the world unseen, just like the Lilalor, when they choose to do so. In fact, the Lilalor look upon racoons as their elfin cousins and you will commonly find racoons living with the Lilalor as familiars. The Lilalor say they are even better as magical companions than the cats, snakes or dogs that so many others favor.

The most common magics for the Lilalor are shamanism and spell crafting. And it is quite interesting to us to consider the fact that their racoons have learned the various mudras and hand positions that the Lilalor use in casting their spells and seem to cast spells along with them. As the Lilalor say, We are One with Nature and Nature is One with Us.

The magical treasures of the Lilalor are in the form of personal magical items that have been passed down in their families for generations as heirlooms or sometimes passed from a shaman or spell caster to hir (his/her) protege. In their use and in their gifting to others, these items accumulate more and more power and due to the fact of reincarnation, it is quite possible that an item one passed on to another in one lifetime will return to one in another, with even greater charge, power and potency. Thus, the Lilalor are ever increasing the power of the magical tools they utilize.

Fey and Fae . . . .

In a recent Netflix series entitled Cursed, they used the term Fey for the Elfae folk, instead of Fae. Is there a difference in those terms? Traditionally, fey is a word that has been used to indicate giving an impression of otherworldliness, sometimes in a vague or mysterious fashion. But then everything otherworldly is mysterious by definition. In that sense Fae and Fey would be quite the same really. Although, there is generally nothing vague about the otherworldliness of the Fae accept our answers to intrusive questions from outsiders. Although, it might be pointed out that while people often sense our otherworldly natures, they are not always sure what it is that they are sensing, merely that we are strange and different and sometimes make them feel vaguely uneasy.

The word fey has also been used to indicate a person who has supernatural or psychic powers of clairvoyance or sight or is a faerie seer, perhaps. In that definition, fey would then include not only the fae but those who are touched by the fae, those who are connected to our world and able to see us when others cannot do so or at least choose to ignore the obvious reality of our existence and pretend otherwise.

Now the Scottish have a definition of fey which indicates someone who is fated to die or coming close to the point of death, which is interesting because there is the idea in some literature concerning the Doom of the Elves, which is sometimes associated not with death directly but rather the opposite. Our doom is the fact that we are doomed to live forever. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense until you realize what a crazy world this is that we currently share with Mankind and so fated to die makes it so many fae could escape this world for another, kinder and certainly more reasonable world. One where both science and magic are valued instead of being scorned.

At the same time, there is often a release that occurs for those who know they are fated to die soon. They often give up all the pretensions and attachments to the illusionary things of the material world and begin to find some connection and association with the world beyond. And that also can be freeing in a sense, for in encountering a certain end they no longer fear the threat of an unknown death.

For our own part, we Silver Elves have always related the word fey to a type of fae that courts death, rather in the same fearless way the Viking Beserkers did (also see the Merriam-Webster dictionary for this meaning of fae), or in modern times the way in which many individuals involved in Xtreme sports often risk their lives in pursuit of the thrill of adventure. Like those individuals who climb cliff sides using only their hands and feet and no safety equipment or like tightrope walkers who risk death by not using a net. They are, in our estimation, fey individuals.

It might be noted that the word fey comes from the Old English fǣge which does mean fated to die soon and is related to German feige that means cowardly. Now, this is rather the opposite of our meaning, where knowing one will die for certain makes one wilder and courageous rather than timid. Here in the Old English meaning, impending death is thought to make one cowardly or that being cowardly tends to actually hasten one’s death.

But this may be due to the fact that we elfae are basically gentle folk, who are disinclined toward conflict, and especially disinterested in endangering our lives for the sake of creating wealth for the warmongers who profit from war. They might call us cowardly for our reluctance, but we merely see this as basic natural intelligence. What, in the past, would have been called Common Sense.

We might point out that in the aforementioned series Cursed that the fey did not have pointed ears. Some of them had horns on their heads, some of them had tusks, some had snake-like skin, and some of them had nothing at all to indicate that they were fae except for a connection to the Divine Magic that expresses itself through Nature. Thus, in that sense witches and magic wielders in general would be fey.

We could, using that characterization of fey, make a distinction between fae, who have pointed ears and fey who are also otherworldly beings who do not. And by that definition, most of us elfae born into this world at this time would be fey rather than fae. But, we prefer instead simply to embrace our kindred of whatever kind, as long as they are friendly or elf friends, and leave both fey and fae as being essentially the same. Vagueness sometimes suits the elven and the rest of our kindred. It is our shield and protection and manifest from the Mists of Faerie (see our book Through the Mists of Faerie).

Elfin and Eldar . . . .

We use the word Elfin, capitalized to indicate the realm of Elfin that would be similar in its way to the word Faerie, when it is capitalized as both a place and a state of consciousness. Or perhaps a place that is a state of consciousness, or a state of consciousness that creates a particular ambience of space.

Most people traditionally have called our realm Elfland. But to us, Elfland tends to define a specific location, like England or Scotland or Japan, while Elfin indicates a transcendent realm of etheric eldritch energy that tends to manifest around elven folk, in much the same way an aura surrounds a person’s body. The aura moves with the person and Elfin moves with the elves who are radiating that elfin energy. It is mobile in the way that a particular place in the world isn’t. Although, land does change.

Which brings us to the word elfin, un-capitalized, which to we Silver Elves denotes everything and everyone that reminds us of our elven natures and magic. We’ve read various writers who have described one of their characters as being elfin, or having elfin eyes, or ears or whatever and in doing so they don’t necessarily mean that the character is an elf but that the character should remind one of elves and things elven. We are using elfin, and really the word elvish, in much the same way.

In the Dune series by Frank Herbert, there were a society of assassin’s who always gave their intended victim at least one chance, one way out and if they found it they were free to go unharmed. He described these assassin’s as elfin in appearance but he didn’t necessarily mean they were elves, and yet, we expect that they were. Who else but elves would give someone a chance to escape?

So, it is that brownies may be called elfin, or pixies or many other elfin kinds, without necessarily meaning that they are elves. The same is true of the word fae, really, which might be applied to faeries but could also be used to describe many elves, pixies and elfin types. The word elfin generally refers to those with the qualities of elves and is likely to be found in Elfin, and fae denotes, to these elves, those beings likely to be found in Faerie. We know that there are some who might disagree with our definitions, but we aren’t trying to set down hard and fast rules about how these words have to be used, only to express to our kindred how we are using them so you might better understand what we mean.

Eldar, however, is a bit different. It is related to the word Elder, meaning older, and is often used to describe the elven people as the first peoples, the first spiritual race to manifest upon the world. We are the aboriginal folk from all over the world. Eldar specifically means the elves and the elfin and perhaps the fae, as the oldest of peoples upon the Earth. Elfin refers to the place where the Eldar manifest.

We, as manifest or manifesting elves, are the descendants of the Eldar, the ancient elven peoples, the aboriginal folk of olde and the civilizations that myth and legend say came before. Thus, we are the folk of Mu, Lemuria and Atlantis and way before that. And yet, at the same time, if you realize the true nature of reality and the fact of reincarnation, you will understand that we are also the ancient Eldar reborn into these modern times. We were our own ancestors, in part, and are our own descendants. We are the Eldar folk born again and again and again, manifesting through time, which is really space and sequential development, in other words, magic unfolding. We are ever becoming and we are elfin, and elvish and elven and fae all at the same time.

This perhaps explains why we elven, elfin and elvish and fae folk are often described as seeming very old and ancient and yet young and youthful at the same time. Because, we are ancient and old, Eldar, Elder folk and yet renewing ours’elves continually through the lifetimes. Manifesting in our elfin ways and in doing so manifesting Elfin all around us.

“Elves consider the all of Nature to be our backyard and the World to be our front yard, on the sides you’ll find everything in between.”

Many people ask us which Silver Elves books to begin reading first and so we say, which ever sounds right to you, follow your elven intuition, as there is really no right order in which to read them (you may view all 50+ of these on our author Amazon page here for the USA and here for UK)! But if you would like a suggestion, you may wish to begin with one or more of these books listed below:1. Through The Mists Of Faerie: A Magical Guide to the Wisdom Teachings of the Ancient Elven This is our most popular book and one we highly recommend reading by anyone interested in elves and the elven way.
2. The Elven Way: The Magical Path of the Shining Ones This is a companion book to Through the Mists of Faerie, but may be read in any order. It is also a very popular book and a good one to start with.
3. The Book of Elven Runes: A Passage Into Faerie
4. The Book of Elven Magick, The Philosophy and Enchantments of the Seelie Elves, volume 1, explores the Elven viewpoint concerning magick and the world, and traditional spiritual and religious myths. It covers all the color magicks, the tools of magic, and gives magical ceremonies that may be adapted for use by modern elves, magicians, and faerie folk. The Book of Elven Magick, The Philosophy and Enchantments ofthe Seelie Elves, Volume 2, continues the progression of the color magicks and proceeds on into the nature and establishment of the Elven Vortex/Coven, using mudras and tattoos in magic, using mantras in magic, our theories on calling the directions/dimensions, magical words of power, and much more. It is the completion of and companion to volume 1.

“We elves see ours’elves as actors in a play conceived by the Divine Magic in which extemporaneous improvisation is greatly encouraged.”
—The Silver Elves

We also suggest that if you have questions about the Elven Way and being an elf, then you may also wish to read The Magical Realms of Elfin: Answers to Questions About Being an Elf and Following the Elven Path. If you are curious about elves and want to learn more about modern elves, then you will surely find The Magical Realms of Elfin to contain many of your questions answered and it will be a great comfort and help in finding your way home to the magical realms of Elfin.

Elves, Faeries, Fae and Otherkin Tribes: More Descriptions of Otherworldly Folk

Elves, Faeries, Fae and Otherkin Tribes:
More Descriptions of Otherworldly Folk
by The Silver Elves

This book is found here for purchase on Amazon USA
and here on Amazon UK.

ELVES, FAERIES, FAE, AND OTHERKIN TRIBES: More Descriptions of Otherworldly Folk is the third book in the series of Elf, Fae and Otherkin tribes by The Silver Elves. The first book, Elf Tribes, is composed strictly of Elfin tribes (150+); and the second book, Faerie, Fae, and Otherkin Tribes, describes Faerie, Fae and Otherkin tribes (150+). After publishing the first two books in this series, we Silver Elves continued to have many of our kindred fill out the kin type survey and contact us asking for a tribe narrative, so this third book in the series contains all of these new tribe narratives to this date and is dedicated to a variety of tribes of elven kind, faeries, fae that are faerie blends, otherkin, otherworldlies, and miscellaneous assorted fae. The 124 tribe narratives in this third volume are all newly published and are not found in the two previous books. Some of the narratives are a bit longer than those in the first two books. These tribe narratives will beautifully describe to you about their history, their unique powers, their unique magics and spiritual beliefs and practices, their way of governing, their spell crafting and herbal adeptship, along with their lifestyle and special creative interests and abilities.

You will find as you read through the many narratives in this book that the elfin, faerie, fae and otherkin are quite varied in their magic, healing abilities, lifestyle, art, ancient ways, governance, love of nature, relationship to mankind, preferences, symbols and skills. The book is divided into three main sections: The first section being tribes of elves of which there are 59, some are of the forests and valleys, others of the mountains, rivers, lakes and oceans. There are migratory elves, traveler elves, and elves of the mists. There are meadow elves, elves of the grasslands and plains, desert elves, and some elves that are advanced Faerie beings. The second section is composed of 24 tribes of faerie and of fae that are faerie blends of the mountain forests and the valleys. Some of these tribes go back to the most ancient times and etheric and subtle dimensions of being. Others are fae who are travelers or trooper, of the rivers, of the deep forests, of the forest lakes, of the forests near the ocean, those traveling through the forests, of the lakes, and of the ocean caves. And the third section contains narratives of 41 tribes of a variety of otherkin, otherworldlies, and various assorted other fae. These are a variety of otherkin and otherworldly folk who are not necessarily elves or faeries even though they may well be related. This includes orders of the Shining Ones who are advancing upon the path of light and realization by returning to physical form to help heal others. Also included are tribes of unicorns and centaurs, leprechauns, the dryad, were-wolves, dragons, dragon fae and starkin, pixies, phookas, shapeshifters, djinn, fauns and satyrs, orcs, some mixed otherkin tribes, the unseelie, dwarves, döckálfar and svartalfar, mermaids, selkies, sirens, water sprites, bogles, brownies, and Kitsune.

In these modern times we now abide, it is most important that the faerie, fae and otherkin have a strong magical narrative of their own in a world that often likes to tell us who we are and who we are not, and mostly quite inaccurately so. It is the hope of The Silver Elves that in reading the magical narratives contained in Elves, Faeries, Fae, and Otherkin Tribes that elfae kindred will be inspired to begin if they have not already done so to create their own narrative or add to what they already remember and intuit.

Over the last 30 years or so, we Silver Elves have given out over 6,000 elf names in our magical language Arvyndase to individuals who requested them. For years, many of the individuals who requested an elf name would also write to us and say that they felt that they were elven but didn’t know any more about their elven or fae tribe. And for years, we told them that they should trust their imaginations and intuitions and while that is still very good advice, we realized in time that this was not any easy thing to do for many of these kindred of ours who were often newly awakened and needed a bit of guidance upon the path. In response to this, we created the Elf, Faerie, Otherkin Survey on our website, as a means of eliciting the information that we needed from these individuals so we might create a narrative for them about their own magical tribe or clan of Elves, Fae or Others that was germane to them and as close as we could get based upon their responses and our own intuition. Note: we have also added the Elf, Faerie, Otherkin Survey to our blogsite, so you may also go here to find the directions for taking this quiz and receiving your magical narrative.

Sample Narratives from Elves, Faeries, Fae and Otherkin Tribes:
Here for you to enjoy reading are a few examples from the 124 kin type narratives found in Elves, Faeries, Fae and Otherkin Tribes.

Excerpts from Section One: Elf Tribes

The Leadothla (pronounced lee – a – doe-th – lah) tribe of the Syndalynlae (sin – day – lynn – lay) nation are wood elves who live in a hidden city deep in the forest. They migrated to the Earth from another star system but that was so long ago and much of what was known about that system has been lost to time and memory. And, at the same time and for the most part, they are happy here, except for the fact that so many among Men seem hell-bent upon destroying the Earth that, like so many elfin, the Leadothla cherish as well as revel in their deep and abiding connection to Nature overall.

Their nation is ruled by a King, whom they refer to as the Great Star Singer but then their people as a whole are often called the Star Singers, or the People of the Singing Stars, for they see thems’elves as singing with the stars. Their king is just being the chief among them. The lead singer, you might say. His title comes from the fact that while the Leadothla may have forgotten many of the details of their lives in another star system, they have never lost their inner connection to that system, and they use their voices, often in a combined form, like a chorus, to draw down the magic and energy of the stars into their lives and into the lives of those around them. In this way, they spread healing and blessings upon the Earth overall. For they are a very healing folk, advanced elven souls, striving to bring light and love to the Earth and its inhabitants and to help all beings to realize their destiny among the stars, living in harmony together.

So, it is that these elfin folk don’t wear fur, and are, in fact, very much against it, because of their sympathy with all of the Earth’s creatures. As the Leadothla say, everyone deserves respect and if they haven’t earned it, they should still be given respect so that they will learn to respect themselves and all others. It is sort of the philosophy of paying it forward, only perhaps, in this case, paying it first and getting the ball rolling.

Their flags and banners bear a white tree upon it, with stars in its roots and the moon above it upon a blue background. The stars at the roots represent their origins in another star system, a system they call Tae Fyr nar Rafan (The Fox and Raven) where their planet was called Tae Bihyr, The Deer. The moon above denotes their connection to the Earth and the Earth’s magic as it functions in harmony as a part of this Solar system.

The white tree is said to indicate the purity of their being and their essential connection to the trees and woodlands. But it is also rumored that there was a white tree, with white bark and white leaves that grew upon their home planet and that they brought the seeds from these trees with them to the Earth. However, it is also said that this tree doesn’t seed but every ten thousand or so years, and that the Leadothla are saving the seeds for a time when the forests are no longer in danger of being destroyed due to the predatory behaviors of Mankind. Some have said that when the Leadothla do plant those seeds it will mark the beginning of the Age of Faerie, which is predicted to coincide with the emergence of the Sixth Root Race of Mankind.

The Leadothla are noted for wearing temporary tattoos, made from silvery henna like tree bark. They paint it upon their faces, hands, arms and legs particularly. These are often vertical or horizonal lines or streaks upon their skin and, like henna, this substance dyes the skin and lasts for weeks, or sometimes in this case, for months. However, unlike henna, the original color does not fade to another color, as for instance the black of henna becomes orange, but their tattoos remain silvery throughout until they fade away entirely.

Religiously, the Leadothla are mixed. About half of them believe, as most elves do, that the Divine Magic is an energy that exists in potential in all things and all beings awaiting to be realized by each in their own way. The other half of the population believes in an outside force, or deity that they call Tae Wyl Tendas, The All Seeing, which is a non-gender power that set the Universe in motion and oversees all things, but for the most part, doesn’t interfere except to make sure its essential designs are fulfilled. However, being elven, there is no conflict between those holding these two points of view, and each appreciates the right of others to believe as they will. Nor do they try to convert each other.

The Nåralaar (pronounced nah – ray – lay – air) elves of the Klyntåpa (clinn – tah – pah) peoples organize thems’elves into small bands and of these there are two essential types, the wolves and the dragons, although really the wolves are formed in bands and the dragons, for the most part, are inclined to be wizards and sorcerers and sometimes hedgewitches who spend most of their time alone pursuing their particular studies, doing various experiments and living just slightly apart from the villages that they serve. The wolves have a banner that shows an eight-pointed star with eight smaller stars at its interstices upon a blue field. The eight points and eight small stars indicate the diversity of their bands, while the blue field symbolizes the sky or heavens under which they roam.

The dragons, however, have a brown banner with a single green ash leaf in its middle. The single leaf denotes their individual and often loner nature, and the brown suggests the Earth itself and their connection to understanding the material plane with an eye toward mastering it. The green of the leaf suggests their dedication to healing and making the world a better place for all beings. Some have thought that the wolves are basically extroverts and the dragons introverts but we expect that they are still a number of variations of extrovert and introvert among those who have chosen these different paths.

Mostly, however, these elves are bards, combining the magic of poetry and music as a tool for influencing the hearts of those who hear them. In fact, while they do prefer to keep their elven nature hidden from Mankind, they have been known to travel about the land individually or in small bands as minstrels, playing minor venues and gigs. Of course, their music and poetry is enchanted and enchanting and it is in this way that they act to transform humanity toward the greater light of understanding of mutual tolerance and harmony. They see their role mostly as that of inspiring Mankind and others who encounter them, and their bardic performances subconsciously encourage individuals to lead better lives and treat all others with courtesy and fairness.

The Klyntåpa have a king who, with his advisors, considers all important issues that relate to the people overall. But for the most part, the Klyntåpa elves look out for thems’elves and each other. Their king carries a wand made from the branch of a silver birch tree, which is then plated with silver that has a moonstone prominent just below the grip. He is thus sometimes called The Silver One, while his advisors are sometimes referred to as The Maples. Together, as a guiding body they are known as The Forest. The flag of the Klyntåpa is a combination of the banners of the types of Klyntåpa. It bears an eight pointed star with the eight stars around it, with a single green ash leaf over it at its center. All this is upon a blue background with brown trim that looks a good deal like lichen and goes around the border of the flag.

While the Klyntåpa are a forest dwelling folk, it is said that they are the caretakers of a magical glowing pond that can be found in a cave or grotto at the center of their realm. This is sometimes called the singing cave, or the singing waters, which has led some people to assume that the pond itself makes some sort of singing sound, or perhaps that acoustics of the cave to do, but the truth is the Klyntåpa keep an eternal vigil within this cave and there are at least three singers, at all times, harmonizing enchantments around the pond and thus spreading magic from there out into the world and particularly outward to the Klyntåpa peoples.

However, the waters of the pond do glow and this seems to have something to do with chemo-luminescent properties of the rock beneath it, although some have suggested there is a certain type of glowworm that breeds in the water that causes this to occur. It is known, however, that people can bathe in the pool without harm, in fact, its waters have been said to be miraculously healing and some are known to drink regularly from its waters.

Spiritually, the Klyntåpa have very similar beliefs as the elves in Tolkien’s Silmarillion with a single creator who gave issue to all things and the process of creation being in the form of a song. Clearly, when they sing to the magical glowing pond they consider thems’elves as sub-creators or in many ways as stewards of the bounty of creation and are keeping its wonder and magic maintained and functioning perfectly and distributed fairly for all to profit from and enjoy.

The Farylynde (pronounced: fair – rill – lynn – dee) elfae of the Ratåtålor (ray – tah – tah – lore) tribe can nearly always be found living in the mountains in the area of waterfalls. In many ways, you could say that their homes and villages cascade down the mountains alongside of the water’s flow. They are an elven folk but very much like the ancient fae or sidhe folk in their way and they place blessings and enchantment’s in the waters so as they flow down into the worlds of Man and the normal folk they serve to heal and enlighten them. Although, alas, mankind is all to eager to pollute those waters and dilute the pure magic of the Ratåtålor with the madness of the modern world.

The Ratåtålor have a Queen who organizes their society and seeks to bring prosperity to her people in all that she does. She is known as Queen Sage since she is quite wise, but also because everywhere she goes her attendants burn sage and waft it around to purify the area before her arrival. Her crown is made each day of lavender plants woven together into a circlet. And she, like nearly all of the Ratåtålor, is tattooed from head to toe with sigils, elven runes and various other magic symbols and enchantments.

The Ratåtålor, also, frequently have chains dangling from their ears, or from their ear to their nose or from ear to ear. They are a quite wondrous people and can move smoothly and blend among the dark elfin, the Goth pixie folk, the steam punk fae and even among biker orcs, trolls, grimlins and goblins if they feel a need or desire to do so.

These elfae folk further have a custom of tattooing a white dot, rather like the red dot the Hindus put on their foreheads, to represent their third eye. Sometimes, as the individual elfae advances in their mastery and adeptship, this white dot will be extended into some rune or sigil to signify their advancement on the path. It is said that rather than tattooing this dot on her forehead, their queen is selected because she is born with the symbol on her brow.

The flags and banners of the Ratåtålor usually show a mountain with a waterfall upon a dark blue background with white fringe. In front of the waterfall is a seven-pointed elven star and above the waterfall is a crescent moon turned upward that has water flowing from its cup and streaming down upon the mountain. There are dragonflies on either side of the moon, just above the mountain, fluttering about. The Ratåtålor sometimes refer to this as the Dragon Moon flag. Although, others have been known to call it the Moon Dragon flag, and sometimes the Water Dragon flag and others still have titled it the Dragons Flying banner.

Spiritually, the Ratåtålor usually associate with the ancient goddesses of Norse and Celtic mythology and the ancient fae goddesses. They see their queen as being one or other of these goddesses incarnate, changing goddess form with the phases of the Moon, and flowing from one energy to another as the water flows and falls. For water tends downward, and the goddess and their queen give unto their people just as the waterfall gives life to the land.

As one might expect, the villages of the Ratåtålor are filled with dragonflies flying about adding beauty to their realm. But, the Ratåtålor also have a very strong association with the raccoon folk and you will commonly find raccoons here and there in their villages at night and the Ratåtålor often leave food out for them and sometimes even have feeding bowls, with water by them (since raccoons are very hygiene oriented and wash their hands after eating), in their homes so the raccoons can come in and help themselves.

The Ratåtålor say that they originally came from Andromeda ages go, but that is so far back that it is hard now to speak of their life there save to say that they were beings of light that descended into the material world and sought incarnation upon the Earth for spiritual reasons.

Excerpts from Section Two: Faeries and Fae Tribes

The Namaynfa (pronounced nay – may – in – fah) faeries of the Novarili (no – vair – rye – lie) nation generally find that living in woodlands around a lake or large pond is most conducive to their magic and their happiness. They find the combination of the forest and the lake waters to be soothing and healing.

They are elemental magicians, and while they are also adept herbalists and grow medicinal plants everywhere, most of the magic they do centers around the evocation of the four elemental forms and their blending (see The Elements of Elven Magic by the Silver Elves). Their magic also involves the use of quartz crystals in various forms, and you can find these, often in enormous sizes about their realm. In fact, most often around their central lake or body of water, you will find at least four huge quartz geodes placed to represent the four directions. Sometimes you will find slightly smaller crystals, but still very large, at the midpoints between them. Thus these represent the midpoints between directions, such as SSE or NNW but also the merging of connection of the elements. But they also represent the solstices and the equinoxes and their between points.

These faeries also seem to have a fondness of pearls and mother of pearl shells. You will not only find many of these here and there about their land, in their homes, gardens and along the various paths, but they also wear a good deal of mother of pearl jewelry, enchanted, of course. And while medicinal plants grow wild in their demesne, one may also discover fields of bluebells surrounding their region. The Namaynfa say that these flowers ring or sing when strangers approach their realm.

And while there are a variety of trees in their realm, Rowans, Lilacs and Willow trees are particularly abundant. Yet, one may also find groves of birch trees for the birch trees figure into their enchantments and often have sigils upon them, not carved but grown naturally and the Namaynfa see these as signs and communications from the spirit world. They sometimes wander among the young trees to observe what signs have grown upon them. In this way they become familiar with the particular tree and its especial powers.

The Namaynfa have a queen who is seen as being a goddess or a representative of the Shining Ones upon the Earth, sent to help, heal and guide them in their enchantments and aid in their effort toward personal development and attainment. Mostly by virtue of her example, but also by the enchantments that radiate naturally from her being. For the Namaynfa value many things but most of all they value the unique and eccentric and encourage every individual to develop hir own s’elf to the fullest possible in hir (her/his) own way. They say even the trees may look the same to the untrained eyes, but if you look deeper you will find they are each individual unto their own s’elf, similar but unique.

It is said that their queen wears a crown that has a mother of pearl shell in the center above her forehead. This shell has a small amethyst quartz at the center, and from that, extending along the sides toward the back of her head, are golden and silver filigree birch leaves, descending in size as they approach her ears. It is rumored that when someone has accomplished something particularly significant that uplifts the Namaynfa people, or the individual has shown true advancement upon their own path, she will give them a pearl — white for helping one’s people, black or sometimes pink for s’elf development to signify their accomplishment and evolution. They call these the Pearls of Wisdom.

As to Mankind and the normal folk, the Namaynfa are quite kindly, doing all that they can to help, heal, encourage and enlighten all that come to them. No sincere soul is turned away. Of course, most of those folks don’t recognize that these are faerie folk or that they are being aided by the fae but that is okay with the Namaynfa for the most part. Some of the Namaynfa may declare their fae natures publicly here in the modern age when it is somewhat safer to do so, but most of them are quite happy to just be their own s’elves in the world, expressing thems’elves fully and letting others have whatever opinions, however uninformed they might be, about them. As the Namaynfa say: other people’s opinions do not affect who we are, only how they see us.

Their flag is blue with a yellow sun on the left, a white crescent moon on the right and a birch tree bending to the right as though being blown by the wind in the center. The tree’s roots are showing, rather like a Celtic Tree of Life symbol. The Sun represents fire, the Moon represents water, the tree represents both air (being blown) and earth, its roots. The deep blue background denotes the sea, the sky and the night.

The Nåmåja (pronounced: nah – mah – jah) tribe of the Wafrodatym (way – fro – day – tim) Faerie Empire are very loving and kindly faeries, who like to dwell in the forested mountains near by waterfalls and lakes and spend their days seeking knowledge, especially knowledge on how to help and heal the world and all who are in it.

However, one should not think that these are just ‘airy-fairy’ folk, who are oblivious to the dangers of the world, for they will defend thems’elves if need be and live in the high mountains, not only because of their love for them but because they wish to be away from most of the tumult of the world with its incessant struggles and conflicts and people rushing here and there doing not much of anything, for purposes that seem unimportant really despite the passion that the worldly assign to them. It is, as Shakespeare said, “Much Ado about Nothing.” Or so it surely seems to these faerie folk as it does to most elfae sorts.

The Wafrodatym have a Queen, who guides their world shedding her blessings upon her people and encouraging them to be ever better as individuals and as a people. The Wafrodatym don’t seem to have a flag or banner to represent them. However, wherever the Queen goes a faerie follows her with a pole that has wings upon it, somewhat like the caduceus that is the traditional symbol of Hermes that has two snakes winding around a winged pole or wand, only without the snakes. They call this her wand and staff, while she hers’elf is referred to as Her Winged (wing-ed) Ladyship. This staff seems to be both a symbol of her office and of her Empire overall.

Magically, these faeries mostly practice a form of Faery Witchcraft with an emphasis on the acquisition and attainment of knowledge not only from study but from experimentation and from divination. They are ever exploring and getting to know the various planes and dimensions that exist in the Universe hopping from one to another. And since Faerie can be, as Tolkien said, a perilous realm, they continually surround thems’elves with an aura of protection. For these can be dangerous worlds that they explore, much more dangerous in the normal world of Mankind, although that is surely dangerous enough as it is.

Spiritually, they don’t have any common religion or spiritual beliefs as far as we can tell. In their minds, if there are gods, they are elsewhere and of no real concern to these good faeries. For them, Faerie and its power and magic and Nature and its power and majesty are all they really need to know about the world of spirit. For those two worlds which are in many ways really one world, Faerie and Nature, are charged by Spirit and filled with spirits. However, if they happened to come across this or that god or goddess in their explorations they would surely be polite about it. Like most Seelie Fae, courtesy is a significant feature of their culture and their interaction with each other.

It is known that these faeries have a great magical treasure, which is called The Wand Invisible or sometimes The Wand Ethereal. It is passed on from one of these witch faeries, or faery witches, really, to another over time both as a significator of great power and achievement but it also whispers secrets to the individual faerie about faery magic and about that individual’s personal spirit and development.

Once, the faery has absorbed the wand’s energy, they gift it to another of the fae folk who will then be advanced by the teachings of this wand. It is rather like a private tutor and some therefore call this wand the Great Wise One.

Once an individual has absorbed this wand’s power, they no longer need to have it around, for it has truly become a part of them and they of it. For their knowledge and experience is added to the wand’s knowledge and passed on to the next individual. Thus, both the faerie and the wand gain from this exchange and the wand just gets more and more knowledgeable, wise and powerful. By the time it comes around to an individual again, if it does, it has even greater power and wisdom to impart. Sometimes, they call this passing of the wand from one to another, the Journey of Wisdom and Knowledge Ascending.

Excerpts from Section Three: Otherkin [and Otherworldly] Tribes

The Loardar (pronounced low – air – dare) spirits of the Spirata (spy – ray – tah) order were once dragons but as dragons they became extinct upon the Earth and, alas, some other planets. However, some of them rose to the realms of the Shining Ones after that and, in fact, many of them are at the level of development and evolutionary progress that the Shining Ones call the Dragon level, which still entails an earthly existence in fae humanoid form but with greater magical powers and enlightened awareness. They are, indeed, dragons (or powers) upon the Earth helping to promote healing, awareness and enlightened behavior among the mass of the beings here.

Most of these dragon level Shining Ones have come from other star systems, and upon reaching a certain level of enlightenment thems’elves were assigned to the Earth to assist with the great push toward enlightenment. Some of the Spirata, however, came here from other star systems ages ago, first manifesting as dragons upon this planet and later, once this became uninhabitable (due to hostility) to dragons, and yet having developed to an advanced degree of spiritual realization, they took on fae humanoid bodies to continue their work on this planet. Others of dragon kind, not quite ready to leave their dragon bodies, migrated to other planets to continue their evolution in dragon form.

These frequent migrations through the star systems developed in the Spirata a sort of wanderlust. They are travelers now by inclination and by necessity, since they don’t always know when they might be needed elsewhere. Thus, they roam from region to region upon the Earth, spreading light as best they may wherever they go. Therefore, you could encounter one of these beings anywhere upon the Earth or elsewhere if you happen to venture into space.

As far as social organization or government, they are essentially anarchists. It is true that there are Shining Ones who are more advanced than they but these higher beings don’t give the Spirata orders so much as point out what needs to be done and see who volunteers to do it. Their missions are not assigned to them exactly, but offered to them. They represent opportunities to serve and help and heal and in doing so develop upon their own spiritual path. The Spirata might therefore be seen as independent agents taking on whatever mission they choose that is available, although if they can think of something better to do, a more effective way to help, they are encouraged to do that as well. They are what might be called S’elf Starters of an advanced degree. And thus, they are Initiates or those who initiated things.

The crest of the Spirata Order displays a swan gliding with the sun above it and stars on either side. Beneath it are a pair of crossed swords with a morning star upright between them. The background is navy blue and there is an ivy vine, with roses upon it that are on fire, that entwines around the border.

The swan represents the essential dignity and grace of their members. And the stars indicate the Universal nature of their work. However, the sun above it all denotes that their work is carried out upon the Earth plane, upon material planes and that they are not on some far off plane detached from earthly existence, sending love and healing to those who need it. Rather, they are right here with those who are struggling.

The crossed swords indicate their advanced powers, crossed because the Spirata use force as little as possible, therefore it is force restrained, while the morning star or mace at the center suggests that if push comes to shove they have the power to move things by force, but they’d rather not have to do so. The ivy suggests the interconnection of life that is behind all that they do and the fiery roses the benefits and beauty of enlightenment, saying essentially that spiritual advancement is not dull but really quite thrilling.

Of course, being Shining Ones, these folks understand that the Divine Magic underlies and exists as a potentiality in all things, finding its expression in the individual as each one advances toward hir (his/her) own divinity. So it is that the Spirata honor the Shining Ones who are more spiritually evolved than they, for those Shining Ones are god like beings, often perceived by those upon the Earth and elsewhere as being gods and goddesses, or as great powers manifesting in the Universe and bringing enlightenment, which is to say ecstatic revelation, to all who are open and who are ready.

Naturally, their relationship toward Mankind is one of healing and consists of an effort to educate and uplift Men and their kind. However, it should be understood that the Spirata see the all of life and all beings as carrying the Divine Magic within them, waiting to be realized and they don’t see Humanity (as a species) as being more important than cats, or dogs or fish swimming in the sea or the trees stretching toward the Sunlight and reaching down toward the waters of the Earth. All are destined to awaken and realize their own essential nature, to fulfill thems’elves perfectly and find a place for their own magic in the Universe in harmony with all others and blessed and graced by the joy of realization.

The Uarfurme (pronounced you – air – few-r -me) elfae of the Bowaarno (bo – way – air – no) tribe are centaurs who have unicorn horns, so unicorn centaurs. They usually live near the ocean, liking to run along the beaches, for that reminds them of the vast star fields from which they originally came to the Earth. They frequently abide in woodlands and forests often among manzanita and madrone trees near the sea.

These folks love mobility, love running and, in their elfae human form, love riding bicycles and roller blades and skateboards and other instruments of movement that are powered by their humanoid bodies. They are not so much for engines but prefer their own power and control of the instrument of motion, which they think of almost as one would consider a musical instrument. They play the bicycle, so to speak, as one might play an oboe.

In fact, their great magical treasures center upon these types of vehicles. Their own bicycles, roller blades, etc., are all enchanted and they can do amazing things with them that wouldn’t normally seem possible. Even when they step into the dimensions where they can assume their true unicorn centaur forms, you may still find them on magical roller blades or enchanted bicycles. It is a sight to see, for certain, almost like a dream or a hallucination.

While they are adept at grammarye and enchantment, their main magic has to do with flowing with the energies of the Earth, Moon and Stars. They call this Surfing the Waves of Reality. For while their connection to Mankind and the normal folk is quite friendly, overall, these elfae like to stir things up, turn the world on its head and by doing so inspire the Normals to think for themselves, color beyond the lines and the Bowaarno, in that way, see thems’elves as transforming the world. In the minds of the Bowaarno, the Earth, Stars, Moon and all else in the Universe are in constant motion and it is best if we, as individuals, understand this fact and stop clinging and trying to hold on and keep everything the same and instead let go and move with the flow of Nature and Life. Constantly swimming against the current of Life and the Universe, just wears people out.

The Bowaarno have a democratic society. They elect representatives if needed but mostly, not being a large group of people, they just vote on each issue directly. They have no particular religious beliefs other than they know that there are more powerful spirits in the Universe that are on various other dimensions than they are and they are aware, respectful and cautious in dealing with these beings. They know of the great waves and the power of the ocean and the tremendous waves of energy and power that flows through the Universe itself and they ever keep these in mind as they weave and bob their way through the world.

When they first came to Earth, ages ago, most likely during the Second Root Race of Mankind, they settled in the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, where they were free to run along the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea delighting in their freedom. Even when taking on humanoid form in order to continue on this plane to achieve greater realization and advancement as spirits, they have still retained the look of the Ancient Arabic peoples with whom they first interacted.

There are actually three clans of the Bowaarno. There is the Dolphin Clan. These are the ones that most love being near the ocean and feel if they don’t get salt water on thems’elves from time to time they will shrivel up inside. There is the Unicorn Clan whose unicorn horns are larger and longer than others and they are quite proud, even somewhat vain about this. And there is also the Penguin Clan, who are the most amazing swimmers and surfers and who often live in more polar regions in the far north and far south of the Planet. These folk like to swim in the ice-cold waters in the winter time and feel invigorated by doing so. Some have also said about them that they love to wear tuxedos, but whether that is actually true or is just a joke made at their expense, we are uncertain.

The Toclara (pronounced: ntoe – clair – rah) guild of the Yåvarkyn tribe are Starkin who came from a place that was rather like Atlantis or Lemuria but on another planet in another star system, although they don’t entirely remember where. If you were to ask them they would say ‘somewhere in Space’, for they have embraced the Earth and their life here with fervor.

They look rather like a cross between what Tolkien would have called Hobbits and the Vulcans of Star Trek, only with the emphasis on the hobbit or what we Silver Elves would call the Brownie or Gnome side of their nature. However, they are not so strictly logical as Vulcans, nor quite as food oriented as Hobbits are reputed to be.

They first arrived upon the Earth in Japan and then spread out into China, Tibet and other parts of Asia and were deeply influenced by the Buddhists of that time. In the course of things, they traveled across Eurasia and encountered the Dragons of Western Europe, who were being hunted down and persecuted, killed for their hoards and treasures and all and all feared for their predatory nature.

In fact, these Starkin realized quite quickly that most of these dragons were really only trying to protect the Earth. The dragons often established themselves in caves to keep miners from digging into and desecrating the mountains and they sought to protect the Earth’s inner resources, since Mankind was forever attempting to tear up the Earth and destroy it to get to its riches. Some of these dragons went so far as to attack men and take back the jewels and treasures they had stolen from the Earth and Men, in their turn, concluded these Dragons did so out of greed. In fact, they were just ascribing their own greed upon the Dragons.

The Yåvarkyn Starkin realized this fact right away and while they most heartily agreed with the dragons, with whom they formed a permanent alliance, about the need for protecting Gaia, the Earth Mother, they also sought to persuade them to do so in a somewhat less aggressive fashion. It is the Yåvarkyn way to always help those who are of good heart and intention, especially to assist those who seek to protect the Earth for they have embraced the Earth fully and completely as their Mother. Like converts to a new faith who are even more devoted than those raised in the faith, the Yåvarkyn having come from elsewhere adore the Earth with a deep and abiding passion.

So, it is that the Yåvarkyn began to live at the base of mountains, usually among the yews, oaks, pines and mulberry trees, beneath the caves of the dragons as a sort of protective barrier between Men and Dragon folk. Alas, their attempts to keep Mankind from ripping up the Earth for its riches has not been entirely successful, however, they still seek to enlighten Men about our (everyone’s) symbolic relationship with the Earth and the need to preserve and protect it. The Yåvarkyn are a ‘green’ people, as they say. They love being surrounded by living Nature and many of them wear green frequently and simply blend into the greenery around them.

Spiritually, the Starkin believe in the Light of Creation, what we Silver Elves call the Divine Magic, that shines through all things. Socially, they have a sort of pirate democracy, which is to say they have a charter that they abide by and they elect a king, queen or ruler according to the particular needs of the time. There is no set length that the leader will be in charge except usually it is for the duration of whatever he or she was elected to do. During hir (his/her) period of rule the leader usually wears the Crown of Lapis Lazuli and the Amulet of Labradorite and passes these on to the new leader when hir term is completed. At those times when they have no king or queen, these gems are returned to the Dragons for safekeeping, although the Yåvarkyn say that they are returning these jewels to the Earth where they belong, the dragons are only the Keepers. In that way, their leaders are reminded that their power is born from and borrowed from the Earth.

The Shidorfyn (pronounced: shy – door – fin) clan of the Havoral (hay – vour – ale) Empire are dragon fae who prefer to live in small woodland cities often among Elderberry trees, Willows, Cedars and Dark and Red Oaks. They look somewhat similar to elves or pixies, however, their skin has a dragon-like or snake-like feel to it and they do shed their skin annually and take on a whole new skin that they call The Luster, because it is so bright, shiny when it is new. Their old skins are often fashioned into various items, such as bags and purses. This may seem odd to some people but the Shidordyn waste almost nothing.

The Havoral Empire is a sort of constitutional theocratic monarchy. They have a King and Queen who have the final say about things but they also have elected representatives from every clan and they further have individuals who are considered holy and very advanced spiritually that counsel and advise the king and queen about how they might proceed in any circumstance or concerning any issue before them.

The Shidorfyn originally came from a dimension that sat at the center of various other dimensions, like one of those places where four or five states come together, and was thus used as a portal or threshold to other worlds. They called this place The Ways or sometimes The Link and other times The Way-through. The Shidorfyn came to Earth through a portal from another dimension linked to The Way-through, however, something shifted in the Universe and they have to wait until the Way opens again. This may not be for some time, although their dimensional astrologers seem to disagree thus far about when it may be exactly. Such things are not easy to calculate, especially since they don’t remember this happening before.

The Shidorfyn do a variety of magics; however, Druidry, Sorcery and Weather Witchery seem to be prominent among them. Their Druids study nearly everything in Nature, especially the trees and tree magic, while it is their Sorcerers, along with their Astrologers who are attempting to find the way back to The Ways. However, like Faerie, The Way-through can be a dangerous place to be and not all the Shidorfyn are eager to return. On the other hand, considering this world and its current condition, they are not sure it makes much difference. Others of their kind are of the mind that they can establish a Way-through here, with just a bit of magic. They are, after all, dragon fae and have advanced understanding of Portals and Thresholds. And being Weather Witches they can make things very pleasant here, at least as far as the weather goes.

As to Mankind, they are generally inclined to help enlighten Men, however, they would prefer to do this at a distance from them, using magic to gently massage Man toward a better world. At the same time they feel that Man is ‘rather dense’ and therefore somewhat hard to influence. They do point out that once moved toward a better way of being, Men are unlikely to change again anytime soon. In the meantime, the Shidorfyn hide away from the vast majority of Men as best they may and pursue their own lives while wishing Man the best or as they sometimes put it ‘the best elsewhere’.

Men for their part, who have little knowledge and almost no belief anymore concerning the Shidorfyn, once called them the Silents, or the Quiet Ones. Even other fae folk tend to think of them this way because the Shidorfyn are very psychic individuals, and almost always use telepathy among thems’elves to communicate. Therefore, it appears from the outside that they almost never talk to each other.

The Shidorfyn do have four magical treasures. There is the Staff of the King, which identifies him as the Grand Wizard, there is the Dagger of the Queen, which signifies her power as the War Duchess, there is the Sacred Chalice of the Holy Ones, and the Book of Laws of the People. The Staff of the King provides him with the wisdom to guide his people, the Dagger of the Queen enables her to organize any defensive activity and gives her strategic understanding, the Chalice makes sacred anything that its contents are poured upon and the Book of Laws ensures the rights and freedom of the people. Some say that it is not the individuals as King or Queen who rule but really the power and wisdom of these treasures that are passed down from generation to generation.

Are There Actually Portals to Elfin?

December 3, 2019
portal_treefarm
“. . . . we Silver Elves are less inclined to think of portals to Elfin being in particular spots as to the idea of special circumstances or techniques enabling one to step from the mundane realm to that more fantastic one. Thus, one is not limited, entirely, by one’s location or position on the planet, but rather dependent upon one’s ability and power to shift into Elfin or Elfin awareness.”

2_3_7tinystar

If we think of Elfin as another dimension, which it is surely in a sense, then yes there would be portals to Elfin. However, when we say portal, we usually imagine a doorway or perhaps a mirror or some other limited entry way into Elfin or Faerie that exists only at certain places or special spots and sometimes then only at certain times or circumstances. This is often the idea that is presented in tales about Elfin, Faerie and other worlds. You can find just such a notion in Freda Warrington’s great novel Elfland.

For our own part, we Silver Elves are less inclined to think of portals to Elfin being in particular spots as to the idea of special circumstances or techniques enabling one to step from the mundane realm to that more fantastic one. Thus, one is not limited, entirely, by one’s location or position on the planet, but rather dependent upon one’s ability and power to shift into Elfin or Elfin awareness.

This, in that way, would be more in keeping with Carlos Castaneda’s idea as expressed by Don Juan Matus that stepping into the ‘other world’ requires an incredible feat of perception. It’s not about where you are so much as how you experience and view the world around you. The portal to Elfin in that way wouldn’t be in a particular location but would be located anywhere the elf mage exercised hir (his/her) ability to step into the Elfin realm or realms, really. This idea can be found more in our novel The Elves of Lyndarys: A Magical Tale of Modern Faerie Folk, where the characters live in a sort of parallel world that is like but different than the normal beside them.

What Tolkien did was make Elves and Elfin more manifest in the same fashion as there are Japanese people or Dutch people or French people and one can go to their land and visit them. In that way, he made elves and Elfin more accessible by making their realization more possible in a material sense. And, here and there, there are elfin folk and faerie folk, such as ours’elves, and others manifesting as the elfae they and we are and creating Elfin about them by doing so.

For Elfin, from our point of view, and in a sense like Castaneda’s idea, is ever accessible to those who have the courage, knowledge and ability to manifest it. Whether this is wise or not or one should be silent about doing so, we leave to you to decide. There is some debate about this and some proceed one way and others another. We do as circumstances require.

However, we do believe it takes a bit of wisdom to truly manifest Elfin (it is one of the basic ingredients, you might say) and for our own part, we are open about our elfin being to some folks and silent and camouflaged to others. That is how it has always been as far as we can tell for nearly all elfae folk.

From our Silver Elves perspective, Elfin and Faerie are all around us, existing in potential, rather like unmolded clay, perhaps, just waiting for someone to shape it into something recognizable and hopefully wonderful. The problem with the idea of portals to Elfin is that it makes it seem as though anyone who finds the portal could enter Elfin, but that is simply not true. In some ways, a portal to Elfin would be a sort of intelligence test. Only, this test wouldn’t just be of logical intelligence, or of one’s knowledge, and it certainly wouldn’t involve one’s genetics but it would include social intelligence, perhaps artistic intelligence, loving and compassionate intelligence and other aspects that tend to be a part of elfae being. If one doesn’t pass the test one cannot enter. But then, if one doesn’t pass the test then probably they didn’t really wish to enter Elfin in the first place.

In fact, anyone can say that they are an elf and in a certain sense anyone can manifest Elfin. It is not closed to anyone but open to everyone, if you are able to manifest it. However, few people wish to do so and of those who do, they are not always ready for the deeper regions of Elfin. Anyone who desires to do so can manifest Elfin, but how truly? And what are your motivations behind doing so? For these motivations affect the sort of Elfin you will create. We are not really stepping to Elfin for the most part, we are making it real. We’ve had people step into our Eald but that didn’t make them elves, and whether they even perceived they were in Elfin is somewhat questionable. Probably, they only thought, “This is strange. Who are these weirdos?”

Then again, there are Unseelie as well as Seelie elfin and while not everyone will manifest Elfin according to our particular understanding of it, every person has the right to make it real in their own lives as best they may, and no one has the right to decide who is or isn’t an elf or fae save the individual hir own s’elf.

Elfin and Faerie are varied worlds, with all sorts of folk and beings in them, and the chief requirement for entering those worlds is the desire to do so and the effort to live the life elfin. No one’s approval is required, no one’s agreement is needed, magic, which is to say action, rules here. Be the best elf or fae or elfae you may be and we, for our own part, will do our best to help guide you to the inner regions where love reigns and magic and wonder are everywhere if that is your true desire.

The Elves of Lyndarys is an often humorous novel about a young man’s struggle to mature and develop himself, his magic and his identity as he encounters and explores the modern pagan and otherkin communities and happens to encounter real elves, slowly coming to realize as he does so that he may not be a man at all but one of the elven. He is confronted through his journey not only by his own incredulity about his encounters and his inner conflict with what he has been taught to believe is reality and his actual experience but also by his personal prejudices and false assumptions. He comes to discover not only that the magic of Faerie is real but further that the Elven Way, as presented by his mentors, offers him a means of traveling the misty paths to magical and mystical enlightenment.

Arvyndase is a complete elven language and one of the best ways (at least one of the most fun ways) to learn it is to study Arvyndase vocabulary by translating our Silver Elves “Elf Sayings”. We have begun posting our Elf Sayings in Arvyndase in our Facebook group Magical Books of the Silver Elves, and we will also post them here for you with each upcoming blog. Below is the first, and by studying this one you will learn some important words in Arvyndase including tree, star, and moon:

ArvynSaying

“The Elves believe that Faerie is in some ways similar to the Moon in that gravity is far less powerful there. Yet, unlike the Moon, there is more oxygen in the atmosphere of Faerie, and it is much more pure. And, of course, Nature is everywhere abundant in Faerie. All this means that when one takes a step one begins to float, and when one takes a breath one’s mind begins to soar and all things thrive in joyous harmony.”

Why Are Elves So Few and Far Between?

November 12, 2019

Blessings9 copy2

“The great obstruction to us being together isn’t the outside world but our own inability, as yet, to make it so. There is purpose in us being at a distance. That way we spread the magic far and wide. But there is a destiny in us being together, and while fate seems to dictate otherwise at times, fate is only temporary circumstance while Destiny eternally awaits us and calls us to it.”

It seems a curious phenomenon that elves awaken, often far away from each other. Although, in fact, quite a bit of awakening occurs due to personal interaction and contact with each other. And yet still, those who stir one to awaken are often elves who are just temporarily passing through that one met at a gathering or simply met due to some unusual synchronicity and then journey onward. Of course, these days, the internet stirs many folks and we find we are at the distance from the very start.

You can find elfae all over the world in various forms and manifestations, but currently we seem to arise more in places that have contact with the works of Tolkien in books or movies or other works that refer to Elfae magic and culture in some way or other.

You may even find those who relate to being Vulcans, or Romulans, or some other form of elfae folk, that don’t think of thems’elves as elves, but would still qualify as far as these elves are concerned. We admit we have a liberal interpretation of what constitutes being elfin. Unlike some who desire a certain exclusivity to our culture, we Silver Elves see elfae folk nearly everywhere. Even if, as in the case of the Romulans, some of these folks seem rather Unseelie in nature, we still understand their inherent fae nature.

But why are we awakening so far distant to each other? One possibility is simply that Faerie, although that term is used mostly in Western European culture, has its roots around the world. When the Chinese make movies about Snake People becoming human, or the Japanese tell tales of the Kitsune, the shape shifting fox people, they are really speaking of some of the various denizen and beings of Faerie. All Otherworldly beings and phenomenon is really an expression of Faerie, just with different cultural trappings. Some people might wish to argue about that, particularly those with the mundane wish to argue about everything. Elves understand.

We might point out, for those who are attached to Elves and Faerie folk being descended from a genetic and material bloodline that the Scythians, who are often seen as the ancients of the Elfae peoples, had tribes who migrated Westward to France, Spain, Alba (Great Britain) and Eire (Ireland), some of these passing, due to familial ties and relationships, through the Middle East and Egypt upon their way (see The Realm of the Ring Lords by Laurence Gardner). But the Scythians also had at least one tribe that moved Eastward and became the Ainu of Japan. We can also find beings described (the Danavas) that were similar to the Celtic elves, the Tuatha De Danann, in ancient Hindu scripts (see the Mahabharata, and The Bhagavata Purana). Similar to Ireland, Britain, Iceland and Russia, traces of the elven civilization can be also found in Eastern folklore and Eastern beliefs. So, it is only logical to assume that since we were a worldwide people that we should reawaken in various forms and places around the world as well.

It sometimes feels, we know, like we have been purposely scattered about the world to keep us away from each other. Rather like teachers will do when they find that two or more students get each other wildly stirred up in the classroom and reseat them to the far corners of the room to keep them from going totally out of control. If you’ve ever been a elementary or primary school or even secondary, high school teacher, you will know what we are talking about. And we, for our own part, know because we were sent to the far corners of the room on more than one occasion throughout the years.

We know that this distance from each other is frustrating for many of our kindred. We hunger to be together, to find our own kind, many imaging an elven family, clan, tribe, often with land somewhere, some even hoping for an elven nation to arise. But the distance that separates us and the fact that we seem to often be surrounded by those who don’t believe our people even exist and are not only clueless about any sort of Faerie life or lore and, in fact, clueless about nearly everything having to do with anything, makes it seem as though we’ve been cursed by some dark spell designed to keep us apart forever.

And, there is some truth to that but it is only a small truth, a truth that becomes obscured when we contemplate that we are the people of magic and what obstructs us isn’t the dark magics of others, but our own magic that has, for its own reasons, spread us about the world, like signal fires on distant mountains or radio stations relaying signals from place to place.

Of course, in joining together we increase the power of our signal. But that is the challenge that confronts us, isn’t it? The great obstruction to us being together isn’t the outside world but our own inability, as yet, to make it so. There is purpose in us being at a distance. That way we spread the magic far and wide. But there is a destiny in us being together, and while fate seems to dictate otherwise at times, fate is only temporary circumstance while Destiny eternally awaits us and calls us to it.

Perhaps, the trick, and being partially pixie folk, we do think in tricks, is to awaken more elfin. Certainly, improving our own soulful spirits so we get along more easily is important. We need to become more and more like those students who seem to naturally ignite each other’s wildness and alight each other when we are together. But we also need to help more and more elfae awaken, mainly through our own example by living the life Elfin, for when there are more of us who are aware, we cannot help but wind up closer together.

How do We Find Faerie? And How do we Deal with Being an Elf or Otherkin while Living in the Mundane World?

October 15, 2019
elfmyth
“. . . Faerie is all around us, living in potential everywhere and in nearly everyone, although as the sorcerers say: it takes an incredible feat of perception to see it.. . . every time you manifest as an elf or elfae other, you step closer to Faerie and Elfin, step into another dimension that is more Elfin in nature, on a path that leads step-by-step to the Land of our Dreams and Bright Imaginings. . . And as we elven know, this world we live in and that the mundane folk live in is Faerie. That’s important to understand! This is Faerie, it is just that most people don’t want to see that fact even when it is right before their noses. . . . We are, the all of us, sentient awareness creating forms out of stardust and starlight, energy given form by consciousness.”

tiny_green_7star

How do we find Faerie?

Many folks believe that Faerie exists as a parallel dimension to this one, and that is true. It does and yet, the way to Faerie isn’t by stepping from this dimension into that one, at least not directly, as though you were stepping through a door or threshold into an alternate world, but involves seeing Faerie manifest here and doing one’s best to manifest it in one’s own being and life. For Faerie is all around us, living in potential everywhere and in nearly everyone, although as the sorcerers say: it takes an incredible feat of perception to see it.

And yet, it is not that you can’t step directly from this world to that. You can. However, in order to do that you must leave your current body behind and most people are rather loathe to do that and we are as well. One might think that we are saying that one can commit suicide and step into Faerie, but alas, that is not the case. Suicide has the curious effect of binding one to the world one is attempting to escape from. In committing suicide, one is just linking thems’elves more thoroughly to the world they are currently in. Committing suicide to escape this world is like getting yours’elf thrown into solitary confinement in order to escape from jail. You can escape, but only by altering your perception and changing the world around you in your own experience of that world.

For the way to Faerie is not out but in. It is in changing our consciousness, becoming more elf, fae and other aware, that we subtly alter our bodies from the inside out and make the transition from this dimension to that possible. But this is not in a single step, although we’ve heard that instant enlightenment is possible (from those who claim but perhaps really haven’t achieved it), but by a series of steps and continuing effort to develop and improve ones’elf as an elfae being.

This is rather like lifting weights really. One doesn’t suddenly go from bench pressing 50 lbs. to bench pressing 200 lbs. in a day. It takes time and effort and regular workouts to develop one’s strength. In our minds, we can achieve such a feat, but our minds are just one plane of being and in order to step into Faerie, we need to manifest it on all the planes. Not only in our minds, but our hearts and our bodies by living the life Elfin or Faerie, here now.

Oh, what a paradox this is. A puzzle set for elves and elfae by elves and elfae. A riddle created by the ancients and the Divine Magic itself. You can’t enter Elfin without being elfin, fae or other and in being elfin, fae and other you automatically begin to create Elfin all around you. And every time you do this, every time you manifest as an elf or elfae other, you step closer to Faerie and Elfin, step into another dimension that is more Elfin in nature, on a path that leads step-by-step to the Land of our Dreams and Bright Imaginings.

In living the life elfin, you transform. You alter your consciousness, the way you interact with the world, your perception and world view and those things transform your body or bodies really, your astral body, your mental body, your physical body and your body of light, also called your energetic body, which is your true body. We are, the all of us, sentient awareness creating forms out of stardust and starlight, energy given form by consciousness.

It is not, however, just a matter of living your life as an elf, fae or other, although that can be very helpful and important. It is not entirely about dressing as the elves in the Lord of the Rings do, or however you perceive elven fashion to be. Or about surrounding yours’elf with elfin and fae artifacts, or wearing pointed ears or faerie or dragon wings or wolf fur or whatever evokes your inner nature for you. It is about seeing and perceiving the world around you in its true nature.

For, beloved, Faerie is all around us. While most people look around and see Men and Women, we see elves, faeries, pixies, goblins (lots of goblins), grimlins, orcs, ogres, brownies, gnomes and all manner of Faerie being. We look beyond the glamour of the world to the reality that lives within it. Just as we see elfin in our own s’elves, we perceive the manifestation of Faerie life nearly everywhere. And yes, we also see men and women, but far less of them than one might suppose.

And in seeing Faerie and in living the life Elfin, we are stepping ever closer to the dimensions where Elfin flourishes, beauty abounds and healing and magic are evidently manifest. Tolkien said that Faerie was a perilous realm, and isn’t this a perilous realm? Look about you, there are elf, fae and others everywhere, pretending to be other than they are, but we’re not fooled.

“If you stay in Faerie long,
you’re bound to hear the ancient song,
and hearing it you’ll joyous know
the magic that the fae do show
and seeing it your eyes
will clear as the Faerie Rade draws near,
and close to it you will embrace
your kindred of the Eldar Race.”

How do we deal with being an Elf or Otherkin
while living in the mundane world?

It can be frustrating at times to live among mundane folk. They tend often to assume their point of view is the only true and right way to see things and even though they may disagree from one culture to another or one religion to another, or one race to another, or one gender to another about what the true and right way is, they still are of the opinion that they know it all. Most of the conflicts they have among themselves, of which there are many, come from these disagreements about the actual nature of the world and the right way to hold your spoon or fork, or what clothes one should wear at what time of year or whatever they happen to decide is proper and true at any particular time. These picayune requirements are all nonsense to the elfin but it is important to understand what is behind all this peer pressure toward conformity and the quest to keep everything as mundane and normal as possible.

The world can be a dangerous place. As we have said above, Tolkien called Faerie the Perilous Realm, and surely it is. And as we elven know, this world we live in and that the mundane folk live in is Faerie. That’s important to understand! This is Faerie, it is just that most people don’t want to see that fact even when it is right before their noses. For Faerie is like a dream world where you may have very amazing, fantastic and magical dreams but you could also have terrible and recurring nightmares. They’ve given us a few. Still most dreams people have are fairly mundane dreams although somewhat puzzling at times.

The Normal folk, as they generally call themselves, attempt to bring some order to the world, to Faerie, by organizing it along some very strict lines of social behavior and activity. They are really seeking to be safe, to create peace and harmony in their own way. They think that if they just all look alike and are walking in line together that the boogie man won’t get them. It is just that their way of achieving safety and security is the way of peer pressure and dominance, social ridicule and ostracization and it leads to innumerable conflicts both within their societies and between them individually.

Behind all this is the dark magic of the wicked sorcerers who seek to control them for their own profit and satisfaction and so riddled throughout their societies is a hierarchical jockeying for position and power on nearly every level and, of course, among the dark sorcerers themselves. In truth, being compelled to wearing a suit and tie for work, instead of whatever you would choose to wear, is the same as saluting, touching your forelock, bowing down, kneeing and other acts of submission to arbitrary authority.

Ever notice in television shows and movies that the villains most often have their captives knell down before they kill them? This is not simply about control of danger, but of forcing submission and power over others. The Normal folk live in constant but often unacknowledged fear, but then Faerie can be a dangerous place. And we know this is so, and we understand what motivates these folks to seek safety in numbers and to ridicule all who don’t conform because inwardly they are afraid that a lack of conformity will bring danger and ruin into their lives. The sheep who strays is dinner for the wolves, they tell themselves and there is truth in this. It takes courage to be an elf or other.

Of course, their attempts at creating uniform (literally) societies are doomed to failure and are no more effective really than many of the things they deem to be unscientific and superstitious. And for people who are ever evoking science as an excuse for mocking and deriding our claims to be otherkin, they are really the most unscientific and science hating lot. We elfin, elfae, faeries and others tend to be far more scientific in our approach to things than they, really, although we embrace the mythological, imaginal and fantastic elements of our being with equal fervor. We don’t pretend to be scientific while basing nearly everything important on faith. We have faith in science and magic. And really for us, science is just another form of magic; and magic, certainly, has its scientific side.

So how do we deal with living among the mundane folk? Cautiously at times, when they get in their dangerous moods, when they are truly afraid and paranoid, which for some of them is nearly all the time. Camouflaging ours’elves from them most of the time, but in a camouflage that secretly tells our kindred who we are. Openly at times, being out and ours’elves when we think they can handle it and encouraging them to do the same even though they may seek to ridicule us for doing so. However, that seldom turns out well for them for logic and reason aren’t really their strong suits, even though they fool themselves into thinking so and we can have deadly tongues if we so choose and can delight in twisting and tangling their minds into elf knots that they find nearly impossible to unravel and most often flee from us screaming.

But usually, we are just kind to them, smiling at them, loving them and soothing their fears, although they cling to their fears like a security blanket. Kind in ways that baffle them and keep them guessing and we invite them, in simple ways, to play along with us, kick off their shoes for just a moment or two and join in the dance. It’s fine. It’s safe and quite healing. We won’t tell anyone.

To Elfin Find

Free we are, to Elfin find
Whatever kin, of any kind
Together do we travel
The mysteries unravel.

Secrets deep, and secrets old
Will now the mysteries unfold
Whisper gently to the bold
From ages long ago untold.

From simple self to Shining One
All has ever yet begun
Such treasures can be won
Silver Moon and golden Sun.

With far memories of an ancient way
Where Elfae sing and Dragons play
And twirling Faeries laugh about
The glen where flowers ever sprout.

Otherworld is like they say
Only one step in mind away
All creatures fey and fair
Call us out to join them there.

And appreciation do we show
To near and far so all can know
Because gratitude knows no bounds
When our True Heart is truly found.

And when the hearth we have found
Joyous tales do abound
Of travels wide and far
Guided by an Elfin star.

Whose light does ever shine within
The secret of our heart
Where ‘er we go or ‘er we’ve been
You’ve been there from the start.

What are the Dark Elfae? Why are the Unseelie Elves and Dark Elves often confused?

April 6, 2019
Z_reading
“. . . the Dark Elfae and the Unseelie are often confused with each other and while it is surely possible for Dark Elfae to be Unseelie, they are not always or even mostly so. . . The Dark Elfae also generally have a love for the wild, the unruly, and they would generally agree that while they are crazy, they are crazy in a good, fun and loving way, thus eccentric rather than being insane. These elfae often associate these traits with being Unseelie, but that is not always the case, in fact, these are more Dark Elfae traits than Unseelie ones. . . . Other folk see the Dark Elfae as being goth-like, loving the dark . . . and generally being vampiric but not necessarily in a predatory or parasitic fashion but in a more symbiotic way. “

There is actually quite a bit of confusion we’ve noticed among the Elfae (a term we Silver Elves created in the 90s on the Listservs that includes elves and other fae of all sorts) about the difference in being Unseelie and being Dark Elven or Dark Fae. Our Elf, Faerie and Otherkin Tribe Survey brought that out frequently as we noticed that a number of individuals declared that they were Unseelie, but when you actually saw their answers to questions that would indicate that they were indeed Unseelie, they clearly were not. So, why would they say they were Unseelie when they clearly were not? It is due to the confusion that is common among the Elfae between being Unseelie and being Dark Elfae.

Note: “Elfae” is a word that we Silver Elves first created in the early 80s in writing and circulating The Magical Elven Love Letters to hundreds of elfin kindred, and then also we used the term elfae in writing on elven listservs in the 90s. We still use this term today to refer to the Elfin and Faerie folk in general, which is to say elves, pixies, faeries, brownies and so on. We use the term elfae in our books (first published in 2001) as a word to mean people who are elven or fae and covers all elven fairy people.

In the common mind, and here we mean the normal folk and society, dark is often associated with being evil or wicked. Many Elfae like to point out that the dark is not always wicked and that they have a love of the dark, in this sense meaning that they love the night, the macabre, Halloween, goth style, emo style and various other things that are dark but not necessarily evil.

The Unseelie are often a predatory mob. This is not to say that they never do good things, or act kindly, or love their family, or kiss babies (just like politicians) but that their basic mode of interacting with others, outside their particular group, is often predatory and based upon principles of power over and dominance. And this is sometimes true among themselves as well. They are ever jockeying for position and backstabbing is not only an art for them, it is an accepted and established practice.

The Unseelie are known sometimes to prey/pray upon the elfae as well as Mankind, and they nearly always have an excuse for doing so. Certainly, when it comes to Man and the normal folk (many of whom are actually Unseelie in disguise, especially some politicians) they have just cause. They seek revenge upon those who have harmed them through the ages, who, in turn, seek revenge upon them for the harm that the Unseelie have done in an endless circle of vengeance and violence and one-up-man-ship and dog-eat-dog philosophy.

Unseelie folk nearly always have Kings or Queens, and a strict social structure. Their society demands wealth and poverty living in contrast to each other. While the Seelie folk tend to have free societies with elected officials, or more often than not, artistic societies in which no one is officially in charge but aura and charisma do have great influence and enchantment rules.

While a Dark Elfae may be Unseelie, they are not necessarily so, and if our survey is representative at all (and although we have only had a little over 350 elfae fill out our survey and that is a very small percentage of the elfae folk manifesting upon the Earth at this time) most Dark Elfae are not Unseelie. They are not parasitic, as the Unseelie often are, they are Seelie Elfae who, like nearly all Elfae, have been made to feel weird and outcast most of their lives, who have felt alienated from normal society and who, again, like nearly all of the awakened Elfae, have come to embrace that fact with fervor. The Seelie Elfae, including the Dark Elfae, celebrate our diversity, individuality and the uniqueness of our natures.

Out of the 350+ elfae (including fae of all sorts), otherworldlies, Therians and assorted otherkin who filled out our questionnaire, only two or three even came close to being Unseelie. Most Elfae, by our natures, are evolved and spiritually evolving beings, which is to say, we have tread the Elfin path for a while now and continue to do so with a devotion. Not devotion to a god or guru but devotion to the path itself, to the Elven Way and the attainment of illuminated and enlightened being and understanding.

Many of the Seelie Elfae are also Dark Elfae and nearly all of us, light or dark, are imperfect beings, still struggling soulfully and spiritually to advance as spirits and thus, while we may not be Unseelie overall, there are times when we may be tempted toward wrongdoing and times when we slip over to the Dark, no, the Unseelie side of things. Just as an alcoholic who has been sober for years may slip and have a drink or two or a dozen and then have to begin their sobriety again.

We Seelie Elfae are not entirely perfected beings, we probably wouldn’t be manifesting upon the Earth if we were, but on the other hand, we are not dedicated to taking advantage of others as a lifestyle and while we do stray from the path now and again, we know that we have strayed, we don’t rationalize our wickedness with hollow justifications as the Unseelie often tend to do. What truly defines the difference in Seelie and Unseelie is that the Seelie have the intent to be loving rather than predatory. This does not mean that we as Seelie Elfae will not defend our selves and loved ones, but that we wish for the world to be a place where all beings are respected and in symbiotic relationship.

If you really wish to see the Unseelie in their natural habitat and lifestyle, look to the normal world, they often abide there camouflaged as regular folk acting normal and awaiting their prey.

“The Path to Elfin begins in one’s soul,
one’s urge to be loving, find kin and be whole,
it moves through one’s mind, one’s imagination awakes,
magic then swirling as the first step one takes.”
—The Silver Elves

What are the Dark Elfae?

As we pointed out, the Dark Elfae and the Unseelie are often confused for each other and while it is surely possible for Dark Elfae to be Unseelie, they are not always or even mostly so. It is important to remember that we Silver Elves view reality mostly from a spiritual, by which we mean an energetic, point of view. Many folks, taking the common perspective of the materialistic orientation of this Kali Yuga or Dark Age, might think that being Unseelie or Seelie is a matter of blood or birth or genetics (see our past blog post about the Seelie and Unseelie courts titled: What Say The Silver Elves About the Difference Between Seelie and Unseelie Fae?), and they see it somewhat like caste systems where one is born into a caste and can never change that fact. But we Silver Elves and other Elfae who view the world from an energetic standpoint see being Unseelie or Seelie, not primarily a matter of birth but of the actions/magic one does though one’s life. Our actions/our magics are a reflection of our choices and we choose to be Unseelie or Seelie through the spells and enchantments we create and in that sense the world we help create for ours’elves.

This is also true of the Dark Elfae, but what is meant by Dark Elfae can vary rather significantly from person-to-person and in legend, tale and lore. Some people when they hear of Dark Elves or Dark Fae, thus Dark Elfae, associate the Dark Elven with being evil in some way, and thus generally think of them as being rather like the Unseelie (we are not saying that all Unseelie are evil). And, as we said, Dark Elfae can be Unseelie folk but most, in our experience are not.

Other folk see the Dark Elfae as being goth-like, loving the dark, the Satanic, having skulls around, and generally being vampiric but not necessarily in a predatory or parasitic fashion but in a more symbiotic way. They love the Dark Elfae for the wild natures and in contrast to most of Tolkien’s elves who appear often to be quite serene and ethereal, the Dark Elfae are pixie-like and party lovers and really downhome earthy types, enjoying life to its fullest. Less meditative, we might say, and more dance-y.

We noted a discussion in one of our Facebook groups in which a number of different people were discussing the Dark Elfae and one group saw the Dark Elfae from the first point of view and warned the other group, who saw things from the second perspective, about the dangers of getting involved in the dark. When we suggested that they might be seeing the Dark Elfae from two different points of view and that perhaps it might be beneficial for them to each define what they actually meant by Dark Elfae, we were ignored and they went right on arguing from two divergent perspectives as though they were talking about the same thing. It was like listening to two sets of people argue about whether apples are red or green with one declaring they are always red and the other forever green. Well, apples can also be yellow and we should note that the term Dark Elfae can also indicate those fae who have dark eyes, dark hair, and darker skin tones rather than the tall, blond, blue or green-eyed image of the elven.

The ancient Norse looked at the Dark Elfae as being the svartálfar, which means black elves or swarthy elves. They also referred to them as the myrkálfar dark elves or dusky elves and even murky elves and related these Elfae to the dwarven folk. Note the fact that the character Drizzt Do’Urden created by R. A. Salvatore is described as a drow or dark elf, whose people are essentially Unseelie folk living in caves (like dwarves) in the Underdark. While Drizzt’s people are clearly Unseelie and Dark Elfae, he has renounced their Unseelie ways and is clearly striving as a Seelie Elf and yet, he is still a Dark Elf or svartálfar or myrkálfar as well. Perhaps because of their similarity to dwarves in as much as they tend to live in caverns beneath the Earth we could, as well, call them Chthonic Elfae.

Our point here really is that Unseelie, Dark Elfae, and Seelie are not all the same even among thems’elves and note that while we Silver Elves are Seelie (for the most part) and some of us are clearly Dark Elves, we know that the Unseelie are our kin and while we think that they might be treading a path that will ultimately bring about their ruin, as well as a great deal of suffering and pain, we love them still. They are our kindred and while they may sometimes say outrageous, prejudiced, hateful and many times out and out crazy things at Thanksgiving supper, we still invite them, at least, those of them who closely relate to us by blood. For though we look at evolution from an energetic and spiritual perspective, we are not unaware of nor heedless of the ties of kinship and upbringing.

Another point is that we suggest that it may be beneficial if we made some attempt, as a people, to define what we mean when we use certain terms. When we speak of Dark Elfae, what sort of folk are we actually speaking about? Here we have simply offered our own point of view and suggestions, but those individuals who are ever wishing us to define things exactly as though we are espousing some truth, will be disappointed. What we offer here and elsewhere are our own observations and, like the elven scientists we are, we are ever observing and continually updating our opinions as new and pertinent information comes to us. Do you have a better or different, hopefully improved, opinion about what defines the Unseelie or the Dark Elfae? We’d love to hear it.

And if you enjoyed the article above, we think you may very much enjoy reading our most popularly read book on the wisdom teachings of the ancient Elven titled Through the Mists of Faerie:

Through The Mists of Faerie:
A Magical Guide to the Wisdom Teachings of the Ancient Elven

ThroughtheMists
—Excerpt from page 26 of Through The Mists of Faerie by The Silver Elves.
“Elfin, Faerie, Elfland or the Sacred Realm or Dimension of Magic that lives at the heart of the Universe, is an incredibly attractive power. It draws all true souls to it. It calls to the Elfin nature in each and every soul. This is the power that arouses the imagination of those who see or read the Lord of the Rings and say, I’m an Elf or I’m a Dwarf, or even I’m an Orc. The power calls to us through Urban Fantasy stories and the fantasy novels of old, as well as, faery tales and movies of magic and enchantment. But it also calls to us from the trees, the wild places of Nature, and sometimes most of all from magic memories of our childhood, which is really our ancient past, our past incarnations, calling to us. It can also be aroused, and quite strongly, perhaps most strongly, by others of our kind manifesting in the world. There is something magical about these beings and they arouse our own hunger for magic in our own lives and souls. These Elfae radiate starlight. They glimmer with love, kindness and compassion; and they reach out and touch our souls. Some might suppose this to be a glamor, a magic they have wrapped thems’elves within to enchant us; but while they are truly enchanting, the magic arises from the fact that they are genuine and real. They don’t need to glamor us. They just need to be their very own s’elves, for that is the most impressive magic of all. They are not trying, they are simply being: being thems’elves, being elves.”

Also, if you would like to read more on elven community government, we invite you to read our book The United States of Elfin: Imaging a More Elven Style of Government. It is based on the Thirteen Treasures of the Ancient Britons, but with an elven twist that gives us a unique and delightful perspective. These treasures are explained in the book to be very similar to the four treasures of Tuatha De Danaan, the faerie folk of Ireland, and when followed give us a clear path to a government that serves the needs of all its people. The United States of Elfin is a must read for all students of history and government, as well as for all fae folk who are endeavoring to participate and develop an elven community and would like some guidance in the governance of a truly elven community. It is a comprehensive and unique book in that it combines political science and philosophy into both a historical and spiritual perspective of better governments throughout the world.
The United States of Elfin is the book to read if you are wondering what would an Elven government and society actually look like in our modern world and how may we, in seeking to go about creating such realms, do so.

What is the Difference in the terms Elfin, Faerie or Elfland? And is there one term for Elves, Faeries and Otherkin?

April 4, 2019
otherkinStarweb
“. . . . when we speak of Elfin we are referring to the vibrational realm of our mutual elven existence. It follows us around, so to speak, and is born of our being and our interaction. The more of us there are who are living our lives as the elves we know ours’elves to be in harmony with each other, the more powerful this energy, vibration, state of being is. . . . When we abide in any particular place for an extended time, Elfin manifests Elfland.”

What is the Difference in the terms Elfin, Faerie or Elfland?

Through the course of time we have come to refer to the realms that we abide in as Elfin. We used to call it Elfland, like many writers, and we sometimes referred to it as Faerie but we have come to see these as terms that, at least in our minds, have a certain difference to them and thus, when we Silver Elves use them, we use them to delineate slightly different things. These are essentially our own definitions and we don’t expect that others will necessarily agree with them but for those who are interested in what we are saying and what we mean in using these terms, here is an explanation of our terminology.

To us, Elfland always refers to a specific place, like England, France and Japan. But for the most part no such place seems to exist upon the Earth at the moment, although there are surely those who would like to create such a realm. There are those who would posit the idea that Elfland exists, in the sense that Faerie does, as a parallel realm that is connected to the Earth at certain places, particularly the wild places of Nature and we can surely see that. But as soon as you put forth that idea you begin to move away from Elfland as a specific place on Earth toward the idea of Elfin, which is a state of being, a people, a culture and a vibration that follows our people wherever we may be.

Thus when we speak of Elfin we are referring to the vibrational realm of our mutual elven existence. It follows us around, so to speak, and is born of our being and our interaction. The more of us there are who are living our lives as the elves we know ours’elves to be in harmony with each other, the more powerful this energy, vibration, state of being is.

When we abide in any particular place for an extended time, Elfin manifests Elfland. We make a connection to the land and the land begins to reflect our energy and vibration as we adapt to the weather and atmosphere of the land. If we lived in a particular place for more than a hundred years, then we might begin to think of that place as Elfland, but these elves, at least, are inclined to be a very migratory people ever moving and traveling from here to there. But then we are somewhat nomadic elves.

In a very real sense, the British Isles, which were once referred to as Albion, are Elfland, or certainly were. Alb comes from the root word for elf, elves, etc. Albion is the Land of the Elf Queen, or Elf Goddess, or Elfin Peoples. But peoples change, as do places. This is not to say that elves don’t still live in Albion (for example), now called England, but we can hardly consider England to be Elfland anymore, although much of our ancient culture still abides there. After all, England produced Tolkien.

Yet, many of us have moved on and we have taken our Elfin with us. While we surely love the land, we are not attached to it in the same way that the legends of Dracula have him having to drag his native dirt around with him. We are more resilient than that and make compact with every land we live in or travel through, bringing introductory gifts for the genii loci, the regional spirits of the land.

Faerie, to our minds is vaster than Elfin and much wilder as well. There are all sorts of beings in Faerie. Surely many of the unseelie folk abide there. There are goblins and grimlens and orcs and all manner of folk who couldn’t, until they find some semblance of enlightenment, enter into Elfin. Faerie is wild nature untamed and, at times, quite dangerous, whereas, Elfin is our Secret Magical Garden. We still let some wildflowers grow and certainly an Elven garden doesn’t tend to be overly organized, but still, it is a safe place where none will come to harm unless they bring that harm upon thems’elves and none can enter in until they are mature enough as soulful spirits to do so.

This is not to say that we elves don’t ever venture into Faerie. After all, we have come into this insane world on a mission to awaken our peoples, so from time to time we delve into the dreamlike realms of Faerie as well, where one may have quite pleasant dreams but may also encounter nightmares. The truth is most faeries prefer abiding in Elfin more than they do in Faerie proper, because they are safer there. But then, some of them have their wild side as well and there are times when they are determined to take a walk on the wild side, and that is surely true of most of us.

“Elfin is like a word on the tip of the tongue,
waiting to spring into awareness.”
—The Silver Elves

Is there one term for Elves, Faeries and Otherkin?

Otherkin surely is the most inclusive of terms for everything other, including elves, faerie folk in myriad types, pixies, brownies, vampires, Therians and Weres, otherworldlies, and nearly everything else that isn’t quite human or is, perhaps humanoid but not totally human, or maybe even human plus. The point is, we’re not quite normal and are very glad that this is the case. Those who aren’t normal and wish to be are rather sad creatures usually. This is the common compliant of those who are highly sensitive and psychics who wish that they didn’t see or hear the things they did. They look upon their gifts as a curse and “just want to be normal.” In time, of course, they will become normal. This may take lifetimes but eventually they will merge seamlessly among normal humanity, losing or letting go of the gifts that they didn’t really want in the first place.

While those of us who aren’t quite normal, or are in fact quite weird, and are glad of this fact, particularly when we look about us and see what normal humans are like and their tendency to kill and pollute everything including each other, will become increasingly eccentric and will be quite happy about it all (see our book Living the Personal Myth: Making the Magic of Faerie Real in One’s Own Life).

But to return to our main theme, we Silver Elves created the word ‘Elfae’ in the early 80s in writing and circulating The Magical Elven Love Letters to hundreds of elfin kindred, and then we also used the term elfae in writing on elven listservs in the 90s. We still use this term today to refer to the Elfin and Faerie folk in general, which is to say elves, pixies, faeries, brownies and so on. We use the term elfae in our Silver Elves books (first published in 2001) as a word to mean people who are elven or fae and covers all elven fairy people. But this doesn’t tend to include vampires except as they are a manifestation of the Unseelie Elven, nor does it tend to cover Therians, except in the sense that often elfin wizards and shamans have shape shifting abilities or animal totems and familiars through whose bodies they can travel or use their eyes to view the world. But the difference is often one of control. Many Therians and Weres according to legend and lore have no control over when the change occurs, whereas elfin shamans ever do.

Fae, as a word, is also rather inclusive of all elfin faerie folk, for we are all really of Faerie and countenanced in its imagination, its growth and its flourishing. We are all Eldritch folk, born of the Wyrd (weird), radiant with the magic (except when we intentionally hide it to slip among those who are hostile to magic or go insane at the mere mention of it, either in fear of it or denial) and ever bringing starlight into a world that has blinded itself with its own false lights and pretended wonder.

Whatever you choose to call yours’elf or us overall, Beloved, Otherkin, Elfae, or Fae, we wish you ever blessed in the Light of Elfin and to go with a star upon your brow.

Living the Personal Myth:
Making the Magic of Faerie Real in One’s Own Life

Living the Personal Myth is written by Zardoa Silverstar of the Silver Elves. It is a unique narrative about a psychological study of the magic of living one’s personal myth, in effect, making one’s dream and vision of one’s self come true by living it. It is a personal guide to becoming one’s true s’elf as one inwardly knows one’s s’elf to be. What makes this book particularly interesting is that Zardoa considers himself to be an elf, yet he uses scientific methods to psychologically examine his identification with the Otherkin world. He explores his personal myth and life as an elf and demonstrates how basing one’s myth on real events in one’s life empowers one’s myth and one’s magic. This work suggests “Personal Myth” to be an understanding of the self that incorporates the symbolic, imaginal and fantasy elements of the unconscious and accepts them as real within their own realms of being. It is the author’s belief that the Personal Myth is the unconscious’ understanding of the individual spirit’s Cosmic aspirations and potentialities. In that way, Personal Myth is seen as the personality of the unconscious and of the individual’s spirit.

Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes: The Silver Elves’ Guide for Finding Your Magical Kind and Kin

Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes:
The Silver Elves’ Guide for Finding Your Magical Kind and Kin

This book is found here for purchase on Amazon USA
and here on Amazon UK.

FAERIE, FAE AND OTHERKIN TRIBES:The Silver Elves’ Guide for Finding Your Magical Kind and Kin by The Silver Elves is dedicated to tribes of the faeries, fae that are faerie blends, otherkin, otherworldlies, and miscellaneous assorted fae, but we have also created a companion book that has the elven tribes in it. So if you are of elven kind, you may wish to also check out ELF TRIBES: The Silver Elves’ Guide for Finding Your Magical Kind, Kin and Tribe.

In these modern times we now abide, it is most important that the faerie, fae and otherkin have a strong magical narrative of their own in a world that often likes to tell us who we are and who we are not, and mostly quite inaccurately so. It is our hope that in reading the magical narratives contained in Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes that you will be inspired, our kindred brothers and sisters, to begin if you have not already done so to create your own narrative or add to what you already remember and intuit.

The over 150 magical narratives we created and that compose Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes are based upon the memories or intuitions and thus the responses we were given to the survey about those of faerie, fae and otherkin nature. We would like to thank all those who participated in this survey and we truly loved their creative responses. Of course, we used our own imagination and intuition in putting their replies into a consistent whole, which was often a challenge but a challenge we very much enjoyed. This book, as well as Elf Tribes, contain only the narratives we have written for people filling out this questionnaire and no personal names are associated with them in the publication. In fact, we do not keep people’s names, so your questionnaire is completely confidential.

The book is divided into two main sections, the first section being tribes of faerie and of fae that are faerie blends; and the second section being tribes of a variety of otherkin, otherworldlies, and various assorted other fae. In putting the tribes and clans in categories, we choose to use preferred locales and environments indicated by the faerie and faerie blends. However, the second part of this book featuring otherkin, otherworldlies and various assorted other fae, just had too many diverse types (over 25) to categorize them by environment, and so we divided these by basic kin type, for example: Devas (Angels), Valkyries, Shining Ones and similar types together, or Dragons, Brownies, Pixies, or Shapeshifters, each in their own categories. Even then, there are many mixed peoples both for the fae and for otherkin of the various types. We did our best to choose the most prominent feature of their being to assign them to a particular chapter.

You will find as you read through the many narratives in this book that the faerie, fae and otherkin are varied in their magic, healing abilities, uses of stones and crystals and herbs for healing, art, lifestyle, ancient ways, governance, love of nature, relationship to mankind, preferences, symbols, and overall skills.

Sample Narratives from Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes:
Here for you to enjoy reading are a few examples from the 150+ kin type narratives found in Faerie, Fae and Otherkin Tribes.

Excerpts from Section 1: Tribes of the Faeries and Fae that are Faerie Blends

From Chapter 1:

The Loråleyndre (pronounced lore – ah – lee – in – dree) faeries of the Edornae (E – door – nae) tribe are healers and herbalists who practice the elven witching arts in the high mountains. Sometimes, people may hear their music echoing down the hillsides, but because of these echoes, one can never tell exactly where exactly the music is coming from. This fills one with a sense of mystery and awe and magic. Strange music coming at one from every direction through the mountain mists. It is hard not to be awed and inspired.

Theirs is a democratic society. They elect individuals to discuss whatever the current issues may be and work out a solution or a number of alternatives that they present to their people who then decide on what is best to be done. They are a very pleasant and happy people so there is little argument among them. Doing what will bring everyone happiness as much as possible seems to them to be the wisest and most healing course to pursue in every situation. Thus, their relationship with normal folk in the world of Man is also one of endeavoring to help, heal and enlighten as best that they are able.

Curiously, besides their work as healers and herbalists, and whatever day to day magics may demand their attention, these folk are Master fencers. Some say they are the greatest swords-elves in the world. It is surely true that they are like dancers with a rapier, moving so swiftly and elegantly that they can cut a button off someone’s shirt without touching the rest of the material or the individual noticing anything but what feels like a mild breeze as the fencer passes by. It is said that they practice daily. Often in large groups like they were doing Tai Chi only with fencing foils.

Spiritually, they tend to be animists. Seeing the Divine Magic as it manifests in all things, particularly as it manifests in Nature. They know that they are ever surrounded by the spirits of the Earth, and particularly in the mountains they feel the primal energy of the crystal and rock spirits, the ancient trolls, giants and other beings that compose the mountains.

They also seem to have a love of trinkets, charm bracelets and even knick-knacks, which they energize with magic. Their homes are filled with these, and they also wear some of them around. These items, once they’ve been energized, become like magical batteries; therefore, the Edornae always have extra magic, if needed, all about them or on their person if traveling. It is said that their very being and certainly their realm hums and vibrates with the power of these trinkets.

_____________________________________

The Obaryn (pronounced oh – bare – ren) fae of the Morwynfe (more – win – fee) tribe are faerie folk of dragon lineage. At some point in the past, their ancestors, or some of them at least, were dragon folk who found the world inhospitable to their kin and decided to manifest in more humanoid form and in doing so began relationships with faerie folk. This is not an uncommon problem for beings who existed in the second age who are now seen primarily as mythological. Surely unicorns, satyrs, centaurs and others have faced the same issue due to the intransigence and prejudice of many of mankind who not only viewed some of them as a danger but hunted others just for sport. This supposed sport still occurs today with people hunting elephants, giraffes and other beings just for a trophy or the “thrill” of killing a creature at a distance using a high-powered rifle. A very curious behavior from an elfae point of view.

These fae generally live in the wooded mountains, a reminder, we suppose, of their dragon heritage. They are good folk who apply their magical talents mostly to healing and divination and herbal witchery, casting spells to help and enlighten mankind in general and more particularly those they may encounter. Many a hiker has unknowingly come upon them to leave the wilderness feeling refreshed, revived and filled with life energy.

They have a tribal democracy, voting on everything that is important to them and all that which concerns the general welfare. At the same time, personal rights and minority opinions are both protected and valued, for these are a very creative folk, well, most fae are, and know that eccentricity is often a key to creativity and innovation.

Living their lives as lovingly as possible, they know that they are treading the path that the Divine Magic, which permeates all things, reveals to them in their hearts, and is guiding them toward ever greater fulfillment of their individual and collective beings. They are becoming Shining Ones, radiating light everywhere they go and in everything that they do.

They don’t have a flag or banner for their people, however, they each carry a stone, usually of garnet that has been enchanted with power and which links them all together, so that even if they should find thems’elves alone in the world, they can call on the power of all their people through the evocation of the stone. They say that each of the stones is the One Stone, which is to say that mystically there is only one stone that is manifesting as many stones, which also accords with their view of the universe and creation. The stone that each one carries is therefore The One Stone that is Many.

From Chapter 8:

The Forest Faeries

The Nironyn (pronounced nigh – row – nin) fae of the Karyndere (care – ren – dear – re) tribe are faeries who prefer to live in the deep rain forests. According to their own myths, they were created by Unicorns. Two unicorns were frolicking under cherry blossom trees and the mystical radiance of their love turned the flowers into faeries. Thus, the Karyndere feel very close to unicorns and quite a few of them wear unicorn horns on their heads as a sort of magical, mystical style and fashion statement. Plus, some say that they can shapeshift into unicorns or that they are unicorns who shapeshifted into faerie form as the world became rather hostile to their existence (see Lord Dunsany’s The King of Elfland’s Daughter).

As far as anyone can tell, they don’t seem to have any recognizable form of government. They are, however, very family oriented and all decisions both large and small are made by the family unit keeping the needs of all its members in mind when doing so. In fact, they don’t call their tribe a tribe or a clan, at all, but a family.

They are avid herbalists and healers and, in their way, very excellent gardeners. Although, the gardens they nurture are the plants of the great rain forests and not gardens as one might find behind a suburban home or even outside a country cottage. They nurture, nourish and propagate the mystical and magical healing plants of the forest, letting them grow more or less wild, with their assistance.

These folks are the stewards of a magical treasure called the Crystal Staff. It is, actually, a magic wand of sorts, made of crystal that they say formed from a petrified unicorn horn. Whatever it touches, grows abundantly. If they insert it into the soil, the area around becomes fertile and rich. If they touch a plant or a tree with it, it will grow to an enormous size, blossom for ages, and live much longer than others of its kind tend to do. It can even be used to revive a sickly or frail child. This wand is passed from family to family, each taking care of it for a time and, thus each helping a particular region of the forest to grow and prosper.

They don’t have a flag or a banner, being as it is in the rainforest where such things would just be like a billboard in the midst of a beautiful landscape, but these fae have developed a black rose, which doesn’t otherwise exist in nature, and which grows up around the walls of their homes, and this denotes their people in the same way a flag or symbol might.

You might presume that these are rather sedate fae, and surely, they can be so at times, but they also listen to the faerie equivalent of heavy metal music and dance away the night until the sun’s light begins to filter through the treetops, spinning round and round the faerie circle in wild delight.

Excerpts from Section 2:

Here is an example of one of the merfolk from Chapter 19:

Selkie and Merfolk

The Marynfele (pronounced mare – ren – fee – lee) fae of the Casånatha (cass – sah – nah – thah) family are mer-persons of a selkie variety, which is to say that like selkies they live both in the sea as merfolk and upon the sea coast at times in humanoid fae form. However, instead of shapeshifting into seal form as selkies tend to do, these merfolk change into a sort of unicorn dolphin, although most folk that happen to see them in this appearance soon convince thems’elves that what they saw was a swordfish. But then, that is part of the glamor that has been cast upon normal folk in order to protect the fae of various sorts from having men hunt them down as they did to the land unicorns ages ago until they were extinct in that form.

The Marynfele have a Queen whom they view as a Goddess of the Sea and a wife and consort to Manannán mac Lir, the Celtic sea lord. They sometimes refer to her as the Lady of the Waters or sometimes She Who Flows. She has the power to heal any of their kind once they are in Uni-dolphin form, which is to say, once they are in the sea.

Unlike Selkies, who shed their sealskins and become humanoid, the Marynfele merely move in and out of the sea and this causes their transformation. To take a swim in saltwater initiates this change to mer life, while having the sea dry from them, shifts them in the other direction. This is both convenient and inconvenient for them. Unlike selkies there is no shed skin or pelt that can be stolen to imprison them on land. On the other hand, they can’t go swimming at the beach with normal folk. But then, they prefer to avoid the normal folk, anyway.

Their horn, however, does fall off when they come to the land, although unlike sealskins, it can’t be used to control them, and it usually dries and shirks in the sun, so that it appears to be a unicorn horn-like sea shell. If you have one of these, you could, as popular lore suggests, put it to your ear and hear the sea waves. But more importantly, if you whisper into it, the Marynfele will hear you. Well, not exactly hear you, but feel your call and gravitate in your direction.

While on land, they honor the four sacred magical treasures of the Tuathe de Danaan, but in the sea they have their own magical treasure, which is the Treasure Chest of the Ocean. In it is contained every precious and valuable thing that has ever fallen or been lost or thrown into the ocean, and this they can take from in order to support thems’elves on land. Thus, in reality, they are very wealthy folk for the sea is rich in treasures and they collect them all.

Here is example of two of the 15 dragon tribes in the book:

From Chapter 21:

Dragons

The Ymbotae (pronounced M – bow – tay) folk of the Forlåfyn (for – lah – fin) tribe are inter-dimensional dragon people who live throughout various galaxies, but the Ymbotae particularly came to Earth ages ago and settled here upon the plains and savannas of the African continent. However, when we say settled we don’t mean to indicate that they set down roots in one place and stayed there, for they are travelers, nomads who wander here and there across the plains and back again in a seemingly never-ending peregrination. (Check out the 1986 movie Nomads starring Pierce Brosnan.)

In some ways, they are related to the lizard folk, being dragons that so occupy the paranoid conspiracy theories of those who think the lizard people seek to take over the world. They are distantly related to those folks, who do seek to control the world, however, the Ymbotae have ever sought to help and enlighten mankind when, in fact, they bother to interact with them, which is really not much. Mostly, they pursue their own interests, which are mainly of an esoteric and exoteric academic vein. They seek knowledge and spend most of their time studying Nature, the stars and everything else they encounter or whatever interests them. How long they will stay upon the Earth is not known, but since mankind seems determined to destroy it, it is quite possible they will migrate elsewhere in the next hundred years.

In appearance, in order to fit in here, they appear to be just another ancient African tribal group. However, there is a certain spotted-ness to their skin that reminds one of the spots on leopards but is really an effect of their dragon scales showing through. So, some folks refer to them as the leopard people. But their totem, in fact, is not the leopard but the African golden wolf. If they had a banner, which they do not, it would probably bear its image. As it is, they have these beings as companions, as some folks have dogs or cats, and also have small statues of them that they carry from place to place and sometimes erect and leave on the trail behind them as a sort of signpost for others of their kind.

They have no rulers, being in their minds each independent and powerful beings, each a great dragon, but organize thems’elves and make decisions via consensus. Those who don’t agree are free to travel elsewhere for a while, if they choose, which is, in part, why they erect those statues behind them so they can always find each other if they need or desire to do so. The way the wolf is facing is the direction they have gone.

The fact that they live by consensus is also why they are not part of a conspiracy to take over the world, but they believe in freedom, particularly the freedom to pursue one’s own creative and intellectual pursuits nearly above all things.

The Karåvor (pronounced care – rah – vour) dragons of the Hyndaryth (hen – dare – rith) tribe used their spells to shift into vampires once the dragon form became too difficult to maintain on this planet. They actually think of thems’elves as a sort of phoenix dragon since they utilized a process of internal combustion and magic to render their dragon bodies down to ashes and rise again in fae vampire form.

These folks, like many dragon-kind, tend to be loners for the most part, and yet they have a Queen who they elect from among their people to organize and guide their society overall. They sometimes refer to her as the River Queen, both because she is/was a water dragon, as most of them in this tribe are, but also because these folk tend to live along rivers from the mountains down to the ocean. Some call her the Shining Water.

One might think that these folk are Unseelie Fae, but that is not actually the case. They are dedicated healers and cast spells and use witchcraft to help and uplift mankind and the world, despite the fact that man drove them to near extinction. Which, you might agree, is a very enlightened outlook, all things considered. And yet, they are very reticent and shy of normal folk and only reveal their true natures to those whom they perceive are open minded enough to accept them.

Most of them don’t drink blood. They don’t need to do so. They absorb energy from the environment around them, of which there is plenty, just as man breathes oxygen created through a symbiotic relationship with the trees. They particularly use osmosis to obtain energy from the rivers and the ocean. The constant motion of the water creates free energy and can easily be obtained by those who know what they are doing. As the Hyndaryth say, you don’t need to force what is given freely.

They don’t have a flag or banner to represent them, but most of them wear an amulet, talisman or necklace that has a dragon on it. Some few, wear a phoenix amulet, but they are related to another clan. Some, with a modern artistic flair, wear dragon amulets that are more impressionistic than realistic in form. Rather like looking at a cloud that appears to be a dragon.

They don’t have a common religious doctrine that they follow, but they do believe in a race of powerful beings who are essentially god-like and who have tremendous abilities, especially the power to shift and shape the Universe. They see these as sort of the distant managers of Nature’s Magic who have little to do with the day-to-day goings on here or any other particular planet, although they could if they so desired. Mostly, they go about their own business, which is what these dragon folk do as well.

From Chapter 24:

An example of one of the shifter tribes in this book:

Shifters

The Piniarve (pronounced pie – nigh – air – vee) fae of the Varikofyn (vair – rye – co -fin) tribe are shapeshifters or Skin Changers as they tend to call thems’elves. They originally came to Earth from other constellations ages ago as lizard or reptilian people but found by the time of the Lemurian civilization that their reptilian form did not give them quite the acceptance they were looking for and needed at that time. Thus, they shed their skins and became rather like those around them. Thus, these elfae others can and have manifested as elves, faeries, werewolves and in many other forms and have family relationships with a variety of otherkin. While they are not related to everyone, they have vast family connections and can quite easily call most elfae kinds their cousins. These days, of course, they mostly manifest in humanoid forms.

This wide variety of forms also applies to their living habits. While they will travel some, they are mostly not constant travelers but none-the-less are to be found in the mountains, in the forests, the deserts, living near and on the sea and almost any place upon the Earth, although wherever they are, they do like to be near water.

Their society is based upon consensus decision making and they, as a group, get along very well. They practice many forms of magic, but healing and herbology is prominent among them. Their relationship to Mankind and the normal world is basically positive in a cautious sort of way. Their idea of getting revenge upon Mankind for all they have suffered at their hands is subjecting Men to reality, the facts, and the methods and modes of sudden enlightenment. The Varikofyn love the look of wonder, surprise and awe upon Men’s faces when they realize there is much more to the world than they ever allowed themselves to imagine.

The Piniarve often wear tattoos. The images of black panthers, bees, owls, and sometimes even drums are popular among them. They also practice scarification so sometimes these images have been carved upon their skin, or appear to be, for being Skin Changers they can make tattoos appear or disappear at will.

They also will wear fur, but only that which has been obtained from some animal that was ‘road kill.’ As they clean the pelt from the dead body, they evoke spells of guidance to help the creature move successfully to a new and better life. Thus, in their minds, wearing fur is a way of honoring the animals whose fur they have inherited. Also, they believe that they wouldn’t have come across the animal if the Divine hadn’t meant them to help its spirit onward to a new life. The fur they take is, to their minds, like the coins that were given to the boatman to ferry (faery) souls across the river Stix into the underworld in ancient myths.

While they don’t believe in gods in a dogmatic religious way, they do see the myths of gods and goddesses as practical tools for educating children about the values and principles of life. They are essentially animists as a group and see life and the Divine manifested in all things. Everything has a spirit. Everything is a person of some sort or other, or if they are like the Piniarve, of many sorts.

As a people the Piniarve greatly value the healing arts used wisely. And they are, for the most part, a very healthy folk for being able to alter one’s body at will also means one is able to heal at will, as well. If they get sick, they simple transform to a healthier form.

But they are also a very romantic people. They have great stories of love and romance, usually between different types of people such as a dark elf and a light faerie, or a dwarf and a centaur and so forth, where social barriers often stand in the way of their union but their love overcomes all obstacles.

An example of an otherworldly from Chapter 25:

Valkyries, Devas, the Shining Ones, Deity Kin, and the Vanir

The Karyldarva (pronounced care – rill – dare – vah) fae of the Tomaåbatha (toe – may – ah – bay thah) Order are initiate Shining Ones in training (as Shining Ones always are) sent to Earth to promote healing, tolerance and to stifle as much as possible the urge toward war as a means of conflict resolution and material advancement, which seems so popular on Earth. They are not allowed to directly interfere with those who are oriented to such activities, but they have the power to heal those who come to them for help and healing the physical body is often a spiritual healing one as well.

The Tomaåbatha, like all Shining Ones, no longer have individual tribes but have vowed to join with others of their Order to fulfill the work of healing as revealed to them by the most advanced members of their kind who speak to them through dreams. Each morning they get up and share their dreams with each other and thus determine the direction they will proceed in for the day and the tasks that need to be fulfilled.

This Dream Sharing also constitutes their social structure and their government. All decisions are made in the light of their dreaming. Thus, they are sometimes referred to as the Dream Weavers and other times the Dream Healers, for they can also enter into other people’s dreams to heal their etheric bodies and their bodies of light in a shamanic fashion.

Upon the Earth, they like to have the centers for their Order in treehouses upon the edge of the forest. Here they can retreat and renew thems’elves if needed, but it also allows them easy access to nearby towns so they may conduct their healing work, which is their principle specialty as Shining Ones. Rather like doctors, Shining Ones often have specialized areas of expertise, although also like doctors, they get a general education as well. Of course, not all Shining Ones are healers, some are here to set things straight in a more radical fashion. We might think of them as surgeons.

The Karyldarva have a crest for their society, which shows two black unicorns rearing up with a golden dragon sitting between them. Above them is an infinity symbol with a heart interwoven through it. Beneath them are the words: Healing is Eternal, written in Angelic Script by an arrangement of daisies upon a vine. All this on a white background. The golden dragon symbolizes both knowledge and power but the unicorns on either side denote the need to limit power and use it well. The fact that the unicorns are black suggests that while they symbolize innocence, they are not naive.

While, as we say, this is their crest, you will usually only see it if you visit one of their healing centers and sanctuaries. For their own part, when they are out in the world pursuing the work of the order, individual practitioners often visualize this crest and, in doing so, are connected to the center of the order and may heal and renew thems’elves thereby.

While these Shining Ones will use their own dream healing to help people, they also learn and use other modes of healing such as Reiki, Qigong and various herbal remedies. In fact, you might say that they study every form of healing and medical practice there is upon the Earth and among the stars, and some of them will even study traditional medicine, although alternative methodologies and non-invasive procedures are greatly preferred. They know that the true source of healing is in the realms of the spirit.

Thus, first they heal the spirit, and from that the mind, the emotions and so forth. And yet, it is true as well that some folks are so clogged, you might say, that you have to start with their physical forms to even begin to touch and affect their spirits. Still, the Universe is a connected whole and each part is linked to every other.

Being a practical people, their devotion is to healing and they don’t really care where they have to start to bring about greater wellness, yet they are well aware that the spiritual realm is the true realm and thus affecting it as directly as possible is ever their goal. Otherwise, everything just takes longer to heal.

And from the many dwarf tribes we share one from Chapter 26:

Dwarves

The Garynvar (pronounced gayr – ren – vair) dwarves of the Valyndor (vay – lynn – door) tribe are very unusually dwarven folk, very advanced in their spirituality and their view of life. They live in the mountains, as dwarves are prone to do, often in caves, and usually near waterfalls or underground waterways, which is all very dwarven but, unlike most dwarven folk, they don’t believe in mining the Earth. Rather, they are of the opinion that crystals, jewels and gems should be left right where they are, to live their own energetic and vibrational lives in peace and without interference. To these dwarves, digging up a crystal is like stealing a child from its family.

This is not to say that they don’t appreciate crystals and gems, in fact, their caves often have such gems glowing from the walls, it is just that they leave them to be, communicate with them through their magic, use them for healing and shamanism without removing them from, what these dwarves view as, the crystals’ home. In their opinion, everyone should be left alone to pursue their own lives as best they may and this includes the rock folk, who are, after all, related to trolls.

Thus, it should be no surprise that their society is basically one of mutual agreement and association. They don’t have a government of any sort; they just hang out together because of shared beliefs and a commonly held outlook about the essentials of life and the best way to live it and approach it. While their view of Mankind is basically benevolent, and their attitude toward all others is for the most part a will to help and heal, they are a reticent folk and the majority of them keep to themselves, away from others, and mind their own business, which they feel would be a good policy for all folk in the world to follow.

They don’t have a flag, rather they feel their shared unity very strongly and are of a mind that no flag or banner is a substitute for their genuine love of each other and their determination to be together as a people. They do, however, have four magical objects that they consider to be representative of their magic.

The first is an owl feather, that they call the Feather of Prophecy. They say that if one is lost and lets an owl feather fall to the ground it will point in the direction one should go.

The second is the Pebble of Time, which represents the refinement of an individual’s spirit through time and experience. Each of these folk carry such a pebble, which they use to ground and stabilize themselves when they are feeling confused or very emotional.

The third is the Candle of Possibilities. A candle can be used to guide one through the darkness, but unlit it bears the possibility of encountering the unknown and revealing its nature, thus this candle indicates that science and exploration are a key to discovery. At the same time, it is their version of the expression ‘Expect the Unexpected’ and would also be associated with the concept of Occam’s Razor that cautions one against making too many assumptions upon too little data.

And the fourth and final magical object is the Sigil of Connection. If they had a flag or banner, this dwarven rune symbol could be it, however, none but they know which rune it is. Perhaps, it is the runes overall. What is known is that they use these sigils in communication with the spirits to seek their help and guidance and nearly every dwarf of this tribe carries a pouch of these rune sigils.

What Effect Do Our Magical Body Parts (Elf Ears, Wings, Tails, Scales etc.) In Etheric Form Have Upon Elves and Otherkin?

December 17, 2018
Zarda_dragn_Naritatemple

“Even when the wings are just etheric, they still affect our incarnate being, for from an elven point of view the material world is shaped upon the ethereal and imaginal worlds and not the other way around as most people seem to presume…. Elf ears (pointed) for instance may be a bit atrophied and in need of being exercised by hearing intuitively, so imagine your Elven spirit body and then practice listening from that perspective on the shamanic and psychic plane.”

2_3_7tinystar

It is a simple fact that faerie love their wings in the same way that we elves love our pointed ears. And even though time and the circumstances of fate have served to remove the points from most of our elven ears and apparently there aren’t any humanoid faeries with physical wings, we still love to put on prosthetic ears and faeries love to wear their wings around whenever they are around their kindred and can feel free and safe in doing so. This wearing of wings and pointed ears is a recognition of our love of our ancient peoples and our attachment to the lore that surrounds them. Whether there were even humanoid beings with elf ears and faerie wings doesn’t entirely matter to us. What matters is, elf ears and fairy wings are cool, and we love them. While we might not have physical elf ears or wings anymore they still exist for us in our hearts, our imaginations therefore upon our bodies of light.

For the most part, in our experience, no two wings are exactly alike, just as snowflakes and fingerprints are each unique, and Otherkin wings come in a variety of thin/thickness, curves, range and which all effect the lift of the wing. One common problem that our winged otherkin brothers and sisters speak of (the angels, faeries, vampires, dragons, etc.) are the effects on one’s health when incarnated in a human body and while still having etheric wings, they no longer have physical wings to use for movement.

One of our kindred, Reinero De Valois, proposes that it is possible that this lack of use of the wings may cause or be caused by blocks of energy in the winged area that may even cause back problems and other ailments. A number of fae have verified his theory as he has helped them to unblock the energy, and one such fae sister did so adding that she feels it may be the lack of use of the wing when in human form that makes her walking difficult and even painful, effecting her lower back and legs. We see this as completely plausible from an aerodynamic view of wing lift and drag, in that a somewhat atrophied wing may have an incredibly burdensome drag on the human body. As we have said, the wing section characteristics, i.e. the shape and diameter of the wing area, effects the wing lift or ability to give assistance in motion to the body as does the ability to use devices like flaps to assist the lift. Even when the wings are just etheric, they still affect our incarnate being, for from an elven point of view the material world is shaped upon the ethereal and imaginal worlds and not the other way around as most people seem to presume.

But we feel too that this ‘disability’ can be corrected with proper visualizations and exercises. And so, we suggest that if any of our faerie kindred are having back or walking problems, they try some wing exercises to strengthen the use of the etheric wings and increase the lift ability. We are not suggesting that this will help you actually fly (although we leave that possible idea up to your imagination) but it may help your wings to assist you in ground motion, like walking and running and even jumping and it may help lessen the burden (and thus pain) on your body of carrying etheric wings around that have inadequate lift, even in their own realms, due to lack of use.

We suggest some visualization in which one first (in a standing position) exercises the full spread of their wings and full range of motion for 3 to 6 cycles (do this in pairs so if you have more than one pair of wings then you may wish to repeat the exercise for each pair separately). Once one has mastered this in a standing position, the next step is to try walking slowly at the same time, and eventually walking or running at a faster pace and a longer period of time (in time you may be able to use more than one set of wings at a time if your magical form has and uses multiple wings for flight). Take it very slowly at first and only do what feels right to you, using your own intuition to guide your exercise. You may also wish to visualize some etheric flaps at the bottom of your wings to help in the gliding once you have begun walking and running. And it should have a positive effect upon your posture overall.

There is a larger question subject here and that is “What effect are our magical body parts (wings, elf ears, tails, scales, etc.) in etheric form having upon our physical bodies and how can we heal and improve our bodies by increasing the use of these magical parts?” Elf ears (pointed) for instance may be a bit atrophied and in need of being exercised by hearing intuitively, so imagine your Elven spirit body and then practice listening from that perspective on the shamanic and psychic plane. We Silver Elves have long thought that is most likely what our elf ears are really for—increasing our psychic perception and our non-verbal connection to each other, past, present, and future.

While some folks might think this crazy, none-the-less, when someone loses an arm or a leg through injury or accident, they often still feel that phantom limb (or wing or elf ear) as though it were still there. It may still itch or ache and the solution they have found is to have a mirror of one’s other limb so one can see the phantom limb and scratch it. This is really the same principal at work here in understanding the astral limbs or other etheric body parts.

And it should be noted that while the lack of use of our etheric wings or ears may burden our physical bodies, this neglect can also have an effect upon our psychological well-being. When faeries get depressed perhaps they just need to get their etheric wings going and fly in spirit. When we elves, as so often happens, feel so very alone in the world, searching ever for our others, perhaps we might consider listening to them with our etheric elf ears. For if you listen carefully, you can hear them in the distance drawing ever closer, calling to us in their hearts as we are calling to them.

So, dear Sisters and Brothers, may your wings be fluttering, your ears be attuning, your tails be waving, and your scales be shining!

2_3_7tinystar

And what about those faerie wings? Here is an excerpt from Caressed By An Elven Breeze: The Poems of Zardoa Silverstar of an enchanting poem about a faerie who had no wings:

The Faerie Who Had No Wings . . . . . .

There once was a faery that couldn’t fly

He was born without wings

But no one knew why.

They took him to doctors

And wise women, too

But no one knew why

Or what to do.

They said, “It’s a shame,

That’s certainly so.”

But when asked the cause

They said, “We don’t know”.

And when asked the cure

They said much the same

Despite their titles, diplomas or fame.

So this faery named ‘Wingless’

By all of his friends

Grew up on the ground

While they did ascend

To the tops of the trees

To the bottoms of the clouds

He felt quite ashamed

While they felt most proud.

But his mother did love him

As good mothers do

She said you’re without wings

Oh yes this is true

But that’s not your fault

It’s nothing you’ve done

And though you can’t fly

You are still my son.

And you know among faeries

You are quite unique

You’re special, my son

But he felt like a freak.

And he thought to himself

What’s the matter with me

Why don’t I have wings,

Like a normal faery?

Why can I not soar

Why can I not fly

And look down on the Earth

From way up high

Like everyone else

Like all faery kind

Why is it me

Who’s left behind.

And as he did grow

And was given chores

They were close to the ground

Or near to the shores

He tended the flowers

And the roots of the trees

And the branches low hanging

That swept in the breeze.

And sometimes he’d climb

As high as he could

And watch all his friends

Sail like birds though the wood

And then he would wish

And then he would sigh

And gaze with great longing

Across the sky.

But always in time

He’d have to climb down

And have his feet

Once again on the ground

And though he’d enjoyed it

He’d still have to frown

For he felt like a fool

He felt like a clown.

For his friends seemed so graceful

As they skimmed cross the sky

And he felt so clumsy

As he climbed way up high

His mother would tell him

It’s really okay

But strangely it never

To him felt that way.

But he worked very hard

And he did his best

Completed his chores

Like all the rest

Was good at his job

In every detail

Bringing love to the flowers

Everyday without fail.

And as the days came and went

And nights passed him by

He came to accept

He never would fly

He gave up trying

And wishing, too

He came to accept

There was naught he could do.

He was born without wings

And that was his fate

Though he hoped as a teenager

That they’d grow in late

But that was a wish

That never came true

And once again

There was naught he could do.

So day by day

And night by night

He did all he could

To be happy and bright

And accept his life

As it came to be

Tending to flowers

And loving the trees.

For while it was true

That his friends could all fly

What did they do

Up in the sky

But tend to flowers

And love all the trees

And laugh in the sun

And sway in the breeze.

They did all that he did

And he did the same

Except for flying

There was naught one could name

That he couldn’t do

As good as another

He was a faerie true

Like any other.

And so he accepted his fate

As he grew up at last

His life was his own

The dice they were cast

And now the only thing

Left him to do

Was accept himself

As he was, he knew.

And so off he went

Into the deep woods

To think on his life

And all the great goods

That had come to him

In the course of his days

And the mysteries of Nature

And all of her ways.

For our lives each have meaning

Or maybe they don’t

You have to decide

Or maybe you won’t

Things are as they are

As they’re meant to be

But still we can change

If our minds are free.

On this our dear faerie

Without wings he did think

As he strolled through the trees

And the dew he did drink

And thankful was he

For his life as it was

Because it was his

And perhaps just because.

So walking about

He happened to spy

A lovely young elf

With a twinkle in her eye

He said, “Greetings, elf kin,

How goes it today?

Do you live here about

Or pass on your way?” …………

This is quite a long poem, so we could not post it all here. But if you would like to read what next happens and the entire poem, as well as all 90 of Zardoa’s poems, please click here to go to our webpage and read all about Caressed By An Elven Breeze: The Poems of Zardoa Silverstar.

What Kind of Elf or Otherkin Are You?
And What is Your Elfae or Otherkin Tribe?

For years various kindred have asked us, the Silver Elves, to help them figure this out. You probably know if you are an elf, faerie, or otherkin but now we’ve created a questionnaire in order to help us and you create a narrative about your specific people and your clan, their personal characteristics, magic, relationship to Nature, and interests. This is our gift to you (free), which we think will be a bit of fun for both of us. Give us five minutes of your time and we will give you a half hour to forty minutes of ours. Simply follow this link and the directions on that page:

“You can search for Elfin for what seems like forever
and never find it.
You can wait for it to come
and it never seems to arrive.
But if you live the life Elfin,
it emerges all around you like buds in the springtime.”
