Is Being an Elf a Matter of Blood of Genetic Heritage?

    Blessings8copy
“….we are primarily beings of spirit, not of matter. We, through the lifetimes, gain the power to choose what sort of body we may wish to manifest in, from whatever bloodline we fancy based upon our own needs, goals or mission that we have to accomplish in any particular life form.”

There are those that proclaim that being an elf is only a matter of bloodline descent and while we agree that there are those who are descended from those people from which the tales of elves seem to originate, we simply cannot agree that elfinness is inherited. Our experience tells us that this is simply not the case. We see elfinness as being of the spirit and not requiring an inherited bloodline. Only the pursuit of The Elven Way, of living one’s life as an elf, is a true indication of elfinness.

Even Nicholas de Vere who makes such claims in his books notes that everyone in the world, or most everyone, is likely to have at least a bit of elven blood in their veins. He contends, however, that his is purer and less undiluted and thus he has the right to consider hims’elf elven, while most others do not. Again, however, he offers us no DNA test results to back this up. While we respect his historical works, we have always taken issue with his exclusiveness when it comes to elfinness. Our belief is that if a person says they are an elf or Otherkin then we believe them. There is no bloodline requirement to be an elf as De Vere asserts, nor would bloodline assure that the person was an elf in spirit, which is the only requirement for being an elf.

Often those who make such claims as being of the elven bloodline present absolutely no evidence that it is so. They expect, like certain modern politicians, that we will accept their declarations without any data and often contrary to known facts. Some give us long genealogical charts but what they don’t give us thus far is the evidence of a DNA test, demonstrating that their blood is as pure as they say it is.

Even if this were so, we’d still disagree with De Vere. If being elven and aspiring to elfin being were simply a matter of heritage then all one’s ancestors would have made such a claim and pursued the path of the Elven and we see no evidence that this is so either.

And even if it were so, even if generation after generation in an individual’s family had proclaimed they were elves, we’d still disagree because as elven beings, we are primarily beings of spirit, not of matter. We, through the lifetimes, gain the power to choose what sort of body we may wish to manifest in, from whatever bloodline and genetics we fancy based upon our own needs, goals or mission that we have to accomplish in any particular life form.

To us, the mere fact that one aspires toward being an elf is, in itself, an indication of one’s essential elfinness. Who but an elf would wish to be an elf? And if all things derive from material being, as materialistic minded individuals believe, then why would we wish to be elves and live our lives as elves, if we were not genetically programmed to do so?

And we are also often asked: Even if we accept the idea that you are elves even though you don’t have pointed ears, what about those folks who claim to be dragons, or werewolves or other mythical beings?
It is true that those who claim to be dragons and certain other beings cannot be so in a physical sense, at least at this point, but just as we are elves because of the way we live, so are they dragons because of their inner spiritual longings and natures. This is not totally dissimilar to the fact that we call some men old goats or chickens or some such or that some folks derogatorily call certain women cows or old hens, or that we refer to certain men and women as dogs, although meaning different things in doing so. Besides the fact that these are often meant as insults, it is sometimes also an observation of the individual’s character.

When individuals say that they are dragons, they don’t mean, unless they are totally out of touch with reality, that they have the physical form of a dragon. They mean they spiritually and “imaginally” relate to being a dragon and in the world of the imaginal, a quite powerful world, they are a dragon. We might say that the imaginal realm is a realm that lives within individuals but above and beyond the material world, influencing it subtly but surely.

Since, from an elven point of view we eventually become what we think, imagine and do, our repetitive actions affecting our physical form through the lifetimes, eventually those who think and imagine and act like dragons (hopefully of the creative sort of Asian lore, rather than the destructive sort of western lore) will physically become dragons as well. We just hope that they actually enjoy it as much as they think they will. But if not, then surely, they will in time become something else.

If you like this article, then you most certainly will enjoy our book Liber Aelph: Words of Guidance from the Silver Elves to our Magical Children in which we discuss the understanding of elves by spirit and spiritual heritage. Liber Aelph is a message from us, the Silver Elves, to our magical children, grandchildren, children’s children’s children and those who come after, including our own s’elves in future lifetimes. It is a guideline for awakening elves to follow as they proceed into the future and the Age of Faerie to come. Yet, it is not a children’s book, save for those very mature children, the elves who like Peter Pan that refuse to grow up and who look to life with the eyes of a child and the heart of the ever young. It is a book of elfin magic and all elves, awakened or awakening, can gain from its wisdom and wry view of life. You can read sample pages of Liber Aelph here on our website.

What Kind of Elf or Otherkin Are You?
And What is Your Elfae or Otherkin Tribe?
For years various kindred have asked us, the Silver Elves, to help them figure this out. You probably know if you are an elf, faerie, or otherkin but now we’ve created a questionnaire in order to help us and you create a narrative about your specific people and your clan, their personal characteristics, magic, relationship to Nature, and interests. This is our gift to you (free), which we think will be a bit of fun for both of us. Give us five minutes of your time and we will give you a half hour to forty minutes of ours. ELVES LISTEN

We listen to the people

We listen to the trees

We listen to the stars

That whisper on the breeze,

We listen to our hearts

We do this most of all

And we listen to the dance of death

That comes about in Fall,

We listen to the seeds in Spring

As they heed life’s new call

And springing up remind us

Of the Faerie Ball,

They summon us to rise as well

And holding hands renew

Our journey on The Elven Way

Toward all that’s bright and true.

The Elven Tree of Life Eternal: A Magical Quest for One’s True S’Elf is set up like a choose your own adventure book for those who wish to undertake the challenge to discover their true magical s’elves. It will help one understand if one is a wyzard or a sorcerer, a healer or a warrior, an elf of wood, snow, hill, ocean, starlight, or a sprite, a faerie, a gnome, a dwarf, a changeling, a dragon, or some other magical folk. If you wonder about your true magical nature, explore the ever-flowering branches of The Tree of Life Eternal.

And to go with the Elven Tree of Life Eternal are our short stories:

elvensilverweb
ELVEN SILVER: The Irreverent Faery Tales of Zardoa Silverstar

The short stories in Elven Silver were originally written to go along with the Elven Tree of Life Eternal to explore your magical being. In the Elven Tree of Life Eternal, there are different types of elves and faeries that you can come out to be and the bottom has choices of what kind of magic you wield. So these stories in Elven Silver were originally written to go with those. But then we realized that it would be far too much to read on a website, so we made the stories into a book. We have also made the Elven Tree of Life Eternal into a book titled The Elven Tree of Life Eternal: A Magical Quest for One’s True S’Elf, much like a choose your own adventure book, to use to explore your magical nature.

Elven Silver contains a collection of short stories by Zardoa Silverstar, one of the Silver Elves. You will find within this book a western, a detective story, parodies of popular movie and television characters, and re-imaginings of traditional fairy tales all told from an elven point of view in Zardoa’s wry irreverent pixie style. We trust you will enjoy them as much as we do.
